I think the Cabal from Destiny would be pretty great. Decent shooting and melee, but mobile and tough. and Psions for psykers

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. - Douglas Adams

Oooh for me this one's easy - the Space Pirates from the Metroid series (specifically, the Metroid Prime games). They have a variety of infantry units ranging from the incredibly weak Militia to the ultra-elite Commandos, drone-like units, jet pack infantry, monstrous creatures, specialist infantry. Oh and one of their head honchos is a cyborg space dragon, so what's not to love there?

I made a homebrew codex for them back in 5th edition (I was on a Metroid binge) and they had a decent spread of units, but there was a lot of overlap in playstyle between them and Chaos Space Marines - close to mid range firepower followed by assault.

You've got my vote! With as many factions as we already have, and subfactions getting different playstyles to a degree there's bound to be overlap.

They are almost like copies of space marines...

I would like to see the necormonger empire and other things from the Riddick universe.
You could have furians as elites CC and elemntals etc..

The grim dark aesthetic is there already for the Necromonger empire and I really dig it.
They could be like a ravaging mongol horde on the fringes of the galaxy. Their thing Go in kill and take what they want then exterminatus a planet.

The issue I see is that Necromunda and necros is a thing so they'd have to work ont he name

We already have one suggestion from HALO, how about another. Bring on the Covenant. Between the aesthetics and the variety, heck yeah.

The Culture. I'd really like the ability to play a 2000 point game with a single 28mm infantry model, it would be amazing for my wargaming budget.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

So you say, until GW charges 2 grand for that 1 model, just because they can.

Just because everyone else has chosen some of the better ones, I'm going to say:

SAILOR MOON.

A low model count army that can change state as the play progresses.

I'm fond of the Karmans from AT-43. Gorillas in power armor - a bit of a combination of Orc and Space Marine, but terrifying instead of funny.

Or, H.G. Well's Martians. Their warlords are big blobs of brains that build machines to get about. They also utilize a caste of enslaved warriors from another race they employ for mop-up duty (Sort of as per All Quiet on the Martian Front, but "enslaved" to obey instead of zombified) and a couple of infiltrator models that would hide among enemy units until the right moment to strike (as per the War of the Worlds/"V" TV series).

It never ends well

This could work; Elites, Brutes, Grunts, Strong Vehicles, Strong Flyers, Strong Tanks.

Units could be.

Elites: Snipers, Honour Guard (Smash capt equiv), Grunt squad leaders, Banshee pilots (flyers), Ghosts (Bikers), Stealth units.
Brutes: Bikers (Choppers), CC bezerkers, Jump pack shock troops, Blister Back Artillery
Grunts: Troops, Suicide Troops.
Wraiths for Tanks.
Scarabs for Titanic units.

And their Navy is big enough and strong enough to hold it's own in the grim dark.

Not sure how they would play though, quite an elitist army, but a truck load of options available.

This would be awesome.

Ooh, following on from that HG Wells suggestion, how about Dr. Moreau-style beastmen? They've already started dripping them in as a kind of abhuman thing, but I bet they could really revel in mad mutant beasties who invade worlds and frankenstein their population into fresh recruits, proper grimdark like. You could have rank and file beastmen as troops, with a profile not unlike orks, and then a bunch of monstrosities like the fantasy minotaurs only more sewn together like the endtimes skaven stuff was. I think it'd be nice and thematic to have them lumber about slowly, and have poor shooting, but hit like an absolute steam train in C+C.

Hey as long as we're going Star Wars, lets just grab the Jedi and the New Republic or the Sith empire. They're already Battlefleet Gothic ready, Laser swords and power swords are pretty equivalent, plus the psychic foresight... oh. Aeldari.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.
