Unfortunately (as some of the replies in the thread illustrate) many people are happy if a unit "works" even if it does not work as many players (and the design intent) would like. I say unfortunately because Games Workshop will see that it's doing fine in tournaments and leave it alone rather than the fix of buffing it as a standalone Lord character and nerfing it as a spammable unit.
I'd like if they balance "Lord" units, to use old Warhammer speak, as if they were a 0-1 unit even if they won't enforce that restriction but that simply is not the profitable way to do things and I can't really blame them for that, selling models is their game. It certainly can suck for less cutthroat players though.

A base 4++ is what he really needs IMO. Better shooting attack would be nice too.

It tickles me how GW removed turn 1 deepstrike because they didn't like t1 charges but have released a host of units can do that just as well if not better (because 9" charges are for losers..)
Disco lords are really good if given the right combo, strats, play style or opponent (why does everything have to beat up on marines so good).
I'm surprised the playtesters didn't catch how good the combos are but they also missed how much the purge turns up the chaos FW dreads so maybe we're in for another round of power-creep?

The Purge trait as any other trait does not affect any dred other then the hellbrute to my knowledge.
Also really? Purge is meh, if only due to beeing mono god forcibly.

You sure about that? Fairly sure most legion traits effect dreadnaughts but not hellbrutes.

Im of the line of thinking that the the half all damage warlord trait is the best way to run him. You can still warp time him and advance and charge with one of the relics I think.
I've been looking through combos. What do you guys think the best combos are?

Legion traits affect infantry and units with the Helbrute keyword, all dreds of various forms benefit from them where applicable.
