I've seen a lot of people assume they are, and talk about the Dread stratagem with them. They're not, they don't have the keyword.

Just a heads up, for the new shiny thing.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

Yep. Had to explain that to a guy who built one after buying it yesterday that the Warsuit is it's own unique thing that doesnt have the Dreadnought keyword and that it doesn't benefit from any Dreadnought stratagems. Wasnt too happy about that considering my LRBT Commander with the Hammer of Sunderance proceedes to nuke it in a single turn of shooting lol.

Sounds like you welcomed him fully to 40k! No matter what you want to do with your new unit, it won't matter because it won't survive the first round once somebody learns it's newly painted

Lmao. I actually use "its my newest painted model" to my advantage, if it lives double win, if not i planned on it dying a horrible, ineffective life first game so no worries lol.

As for the warsuit i had a long conversation about it today with a newer player at my flgs. He was of the opinion they are the 2nd comming of the emporer, i say they will sell well, and be seen in a lot of games, but no competitive force will use them.

As a marine player in the new codex our output for damage potential t1 has multiplied by X2.5, may be even x3. But our defensive capabilities are still the same. Therefore i surmise that those that use our new toys to help keep our armies alive will find the most mileage from them, not those that use them for damage output. (I think the same of successor chapters / primary chapter traits as well, but only time will tell)

If i was to get one it would be an autocannon load out and i would put it with my venerable dreadnaughts, a twin laz/missile and a quad autocannon dread. It has almost the same number of cannon shots as my dread, but is easier to kill, but doesnt output as much dmg. This forces my opponent to make choices, which means dictating the flow of battle. It he pulls enough heat off of my vens so they live longer its a win. And if someone deep strikes near them / gets near them he is my cc protection. Its a triple win scenario for me. But using it as a super heavy flamer up close to the opponents line... that seems like a trap to me.

this is literally two prime examples of how 40k works

1) "Look at my new shiny model" *explodes immediately* "Oh what the gak man..."
and
2) "This is a ridiculous combo i figured out its amazing!" "Uh...dude you cant do that...it doesnt get those rules"

I see both way too often.
People dont fully read rules and i swear i have more problems with it this edition than before which shouldnt happen with how simplified it is by comparison. I faced a knight player who didnt know he could fall back over infantry and it wasnt the Titanic keyword allowing him to fire heavy weapons lol

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

40k rules might be simplified but them being spread out like hell makes it mess to learn.

It's the key word system slowly but surely becoming more and more bloated. 8th is simple on paper but increasingly complicated in fact due to more and more strats, tactics and army builds being linked to what unit has what key word.

This really isn't complicated though. This stratagem works on Dreadnoughts, the thing is not a Dreadnought. Not hard. Of course one can easily make a mistake, as it looks a lot like dread, but the rules themselves are presented perfectly clearly.

Which isn't the issue.

The problem is purely bloat, from the lists of keywords to the lists of stratagems, relics, warlord traits, lists of lists and lists of points and so on and so forth. And that assuming you only have to look up in a single book, without supplements, FAQs, campaign books, WD or whatever.

The organizing principles behind this edition are terrible. Too much cross reference and lookup and major mistakes happen from missing a single word. If it were a computer game, it wouldn't be an issue, but for in game lookup by people, it's a mess.

It also doesn't help that GW themselves kept saying it was a stripped down Redemptor chassis in all the promo fluff.

Well, its not a Dread also by its special rules.
It gives you some other tactical options and talking about those is a the more interesting question.
Not a bad move by GW.
