Hey Gang

So I was just having a quick look on ebay as I often do at the start of my shift... And the following wraithseer has popped up being sold as a wraithlord (for an amazing £10!)
I looked it over but could not find any obvious misgivings about it being a recast. Tbf I probably would have pulled the trigger even if it was a wraithlord at that price lol.. However I do not own a legit wraithseer so I cannot tell any obvious signs this being a recast.

So Did I snag a good deal or did I get myself a nice recast wraithseer proxy??

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FINECAST-WARHAMMER-ELDAR-WRAITHLORD-UNPAINTED-L/153620542068?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I hope the link works...

As far as I can tell the wraith seer kit is mainly the wraithlord kit with FW resin bits dumped on top, but im not sure if this used to be different? From the pictures the entire model appears resin but its hard to tell.

Looks like a recast to me, though for 10 quid, I'm not sure I'd call it a stinker, either. Oddly, the hip and crotch guards look like they might be original plastic.

I think the crotch guard looks to be plastic, but as far as I can tell everything else is resin.
If its good quality I might keep it and experiment doing a "robe" conversion I want to do on a real wraith seer I was planning to buy

The irony is that the Resin used to re-cast is likely superior to the native forgeworld model and it is less likely to have major flaws as well as the FW models used in recasting are often cleaned and repaired prior to recasting resulting in a reliable end result.

FW's blurb says:
"The Aeldari Wraithseer is a complete resin and plastic kit."
https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/Eldar-Wraithseer

So, it cannot be Finecast, that's to draw you into the ebay post.
As the seller lists in the item post:
"PLEASE NOTE THIS MAY BE A RECAST THE RESIN IS QUITE DARK - SO SOLD AS SEEN".

So yeah, iffy.
Not that I've seen one, or know how much resin is in a FW kit...

I believe looking at the FW one they currently sell they use a wraith lord chassis with resin head, arms, back piece and trim bits you can stick on.
It looks like a wraithseer.. Its yet to arrive so not sure what state its in.

100% a recast from what we can see, but the sculpt at least looks normal.

I think it looks pretty good and for the price its nice. I have found that some of the recasts that I got for confrontation are as good or better than the originals.

If it's a recast, then it's a better job than the actual FW wraithseer I got.

Sure, you got a full plastic wraithlord kit in addition to resin head, fins, halberd arm and hand and wraithcannon - but that halberd looks intact and straight.

On the plus side, they did "dun goof" and send me double what I'd ordered. The wraithcannons were well done. Not so much the rest of the kit.

Does it matter? You've bought it second-hand on eBay, your money's not going to GW either way.

No... that's totally fake. As a matter of fact, you should send that to me so I can properly table... er… dispose of it for you.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Well you are creating demand and ergo encourage recasting. So depends on do you want to support recasting or not.

I can tell for sure it's a recast.
Just check the 4th photograph you can see the mold line in the back collar of the Wraithlord (wich should be plastic and not have it ) and you can notice it in the right lear leg since the mold line goes along the leg and part of the rear gem like.

Still a decent price and for what is worth some recasters do quite a proper job require less prep work than FW original pieces to look properly.

How is he "creating demand" by having bought a recast off someone else who already bought it? He's not buying from the recasters, merely from a random hobbyist. A one-off purchase of second-hand goods doesn't "create demand" for new versions of those good, legit or reproductions.

Yup working on a FW tank I've had sitting for the past 5 years dreading the effort needed to repair it. So out came all the tricks I know to straighten, flatten, fill... with all kinds of putty... all the sculpting tools. Yeah. legit FW takes a serious amount of work to fill the gaps, pits, bad casting, mold slip, HOLES, broken parts.. and warpage.

This is only a Land Raider Achilles Alpha. Which is a hybrid plastic kit so less resin but that mold slip, that doubling, that warpage, that wtf holes in the casting. "Quality" FW... I'd rather have a recast.

Mind you that the plastic parts for the Land Raider are from the 1999 Mold.. which uses a more primitive injection process vs the modern GW products so the plastic flow is inferior to modern kits. There is clear pillowing and on the large flats the lack of smoothness is obvious as well as some warpage. It is telling that FW sent out 5 years ago a 1999 Mold Land Raider as part of their kit (aka their plastic parts are from OLD stock sitting round). I think FW has some awesome stuff but I'd rather buy off a recaster because of the better quality on top of better price.
