Hi everyone,

I was looking into getting some of the not so new contrast paints. I know I'm a bit late to the party, and I don't want to get all the colours available as I don't paint that much nor will I use all the colours. I have a couple of questions regarding which colour to use.

- Red for blood letters. Should I go Blood angels red or the other darker red? I have seem some of the other darker one, and to be honest it seem too dark.
- Skin (mainly human/eldar) Is the darkoath flesh the right choice? Or should I go to the guilliman flesh?
- Is there a contrast that is good for guns?

I know they seem as pretty standard questions, but input from people who has used them would be very Wellcome.

Thanks,

Have a look below at my post: Zombicide Test Scheme.

I'm using the new Contrast to paint these, trying to limit to 5 or less colours per model. The Blood Angels Red is more akin to Evil Sunz Scarlet, so for Bloodletters I'd go for the Contrast Flesh Tearers. On the skin, I've used Darkoath and Gullimans. Darkoath is more a yellow skin tone whilst gulliman is more pink. Personally I prefer the Darkoath. I've also just used Cygor Brown as a skin tone to do a real dak skin tone.

A bit of everything really....... Titanicus, Bolt Action, Cruel Seas, Black Seas, Blood Red Skies, Kingdom Death, Relic Knights, DUST Tactics, Zombicide the lit goes on.............

I have seen that video, and that is what I was asking between the two of them. I think the look too dark on that video, but not sure if the other red will be too light :S

Blood Angels red is nice because you can shade it darker, it’s hard to brighten contrast paints without using layer paints.

The gray contrast over metallic colors make for nicely shaded metals. I go 5 drops of contrast to 2 drops of medium for that.

It sounds like this is a video you should definitely watch - https://youtu.be/HiRS4tmXe0M

He applies pretty much every shade of Contrast over similar parts and compares them by shade/color, and offers opinions on which he thought worked the best and which to skip. Solid stuff.

One other thing to (potentially) bear in mind is that they do mix pretty well. if you come up with a shade that you really like - for example 3 parts BA red and 1 part Nazdreg Yellow - then you can make up a mixed batch in a spare bottle (droppers are great for this) and then get a consistent and easily-accessed custom shade with the contrasts.

Thanks,

a) I prefer the flesh tearer red. The blood angel one is bit too candy red for me.
b) I love guilliman flesh. Haven't tried darkoath. Fyreslayer gave me nice tanned flesh for harad warriors.
c) for metallic effect haven't found good way. for casing black templar is nice enough

No question droppers for contrast paints.
