Subject: Blood Angels Artwork/Minis - looking for some inspiration!

Hi, all.
So I'm painting up a squad of 5 Blood Angels for my local hobby store. There's almost no interest in 40k, or indeed anything Warhammer related in this part of Japan...
...but if punk rock has taught me anything (debatable), it's that if you wanna change your local scene, you should go out and do it yourself!
Thinking of punk, the late 80s to early 90s, and having an abundance of Blood Angels bits, I figured it was only right to paint these boyos up as Sons of Sanguinius!
What I want from you, dear, sweet Dakkanaut, is a SINGLE example of your favorite Blood Angels artwork, or painted miniature/miniatures. Mostly, I've decided how I'm going to do this, but there are one or two finishing touches I wanna consider.
ALSO! If there are any heraldry boffins out there who want to explain what's up with the shoulder pad colouration, squad markings etc, that would be neat-o!
Thanks for your help!!!

Cover to 2nd ed Codex Angels Of Death. Sold me on the army in one pic.
As to shoulder pads, the blood drops on the right pad denote company...I'd have to check to see what colour is what, I think yellow is 2nd or 3rd. 1 drop for battle companies, 2 for reserves. White skull instead for veterans. The left pad is the chapter symbol. white on red for normal guys, yellow on black for Sgts.
Squad markings are on the right knee. Skulls on black and blue backgrounds, and white X crosses...after that I'm not sure, maybe a lightning bolt though I may be confusing with the old army/detachment markings.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry. |

Great choice, and one I didn't know super well! I'm particularly keen on anything that got people into the hobby! I really hope that maybe 40k might take off here, though I imagine competing with gundam - which is in a bit of a golden age right now - It might never happen...
...but I know there are enough bored country kids, and enough plamo dorks at the school I work at (conveniently located v. close to the model shop) that maybe, just maybe... If I can channel some of those artworks just a tad, maybe the old guy running the store will pick up a starter box (christ knows where he got these from, they're Assault on Black Reach era...), and some kids might get addicted to the plastic crack, like I have.

Ooh, thanks! I was sure I poked about on Lexicanum and couldn't see anything, but I guess I had my idiot eyes in that day - thanks! Will have to do some homework as to what these boyos should be! As my first marine project was Black Templars, I've never really had a proper codex to follow vis-a-vis markings, and would actually quite like to give it a shot! Maybe one day some kid will look at my marines, then look up their company in his codex, and think "すげー、これを作った人は誰でも巨大なオタクでした。"

Gunpla is very cheap compared to GW. And let's be honest, probably better quality models and value for money... Most of the time. I was shocked when I first saw an Imperial Knight in person and it was about the size of a big High Grade. They're very different hobbies for me though. One thing I really love about 40k stuff is converting and painting, which I find much easier and satisfying with the smaller sized models. There's also the game aspect of GW stuff, and much more variety in the fluff side of things.
Hope you're able to get some other folks interested and enjoy the hobby wihh others.

If I was goiun to do some blood angels stuff to inspire locals I'd eaither do a primaris intercessor squad (they're proably better looking then old Marines to the uniniated) or sanguiniary guard. you want a unit that'll make people go "ohh wow!"

Kinda limited to what's available to me - namely some 2004 plastic space marines, and a few bits. For what it's worth, I think that it's a decent enough intro, provivded I can paint them well enough - I feel like sanguinary guard are a little too flashy and elite - everything after them will seem drab by comparison. I'd rather start with a striking set of troops, and allow someone the joy of finding something clearly very much elite compared to the grunts.
Additionally, classic marines got me here, and they're pretty customizable - as someone who's built plenty of Gundam models before (everything except a perfect grade), I can honestly say multi-part space marines are actually a really fun model kit - along with the venerable dred - and customization is a big deal in modeling here, so I'm hoping if I can show a little flair, it might pique a bit of curiosity here and there.
