Woah! That dragon is looking fierce. I really like the colors you've chosen.

My painting log is full of snakes

Thanks DJJazzyJeff! Glad its working, especially as I haven't really made progress on my bonus entries for the challenge!

And thanks Don qui Hotep, not really liking how the paints are working, and didn't get much chance to work on him in the back half of the week though sadly.

Did get the base colors done on these rats though:

Hoping I can start highlights and drybrush on them tomorrow, and maybe the speedpaints on the dragon will have dried enough by then to let me get some cleanup/highlight passes done on him.

Didn't get to the highlights. Did get some painting on the dragon. Not sure if its still activating, or if I'm just not reading the darkening as new paint dries right, especially on thin yellows, but getting close enough to done I'm starting the base.

Test fit:

Not sure why the paw is floating, but built up a little step for that and then primed:

Hoping to do the claws and maw and the base this week. Which is going to be a frenzy of basing, as a good few animals got base ready on tuesday paint night. Some rats:

Some foxes from all the way back on page 1, and I think technically 2017...

And my possibly bonus entries for the challenge, SF dino marines:

Typhon only got one blotch of color on one set of 10 though. They'll get there in April or May, maybe.

Hopefully basing will be done by the end of the month.

Only really did the dragons base, but how it stood last night, waiting for the paint to dry:

Hopefully glue on the dragon tonight, maybe add a few last touches, assuming it dries looking decent.

Below my usual quality level, but done, and about to hit the table Sunday for a buddies D&D game:

now to just get those other 6-10 done...

I always love a lava base, and a custom sculpted on at that! The dragon looks quite epic.

Thanks Don Qui Hotep!

Also, another burst of finished minis, this time for Burrows and badgers.
Some foxes (only took since june 2018 when I checked...):

And the rat pack:

Those foxes aren’t even a four year old project, then. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Perhaps I need to dip my toe into the waters of Burrows and Badgers . . .
Another stack of grey plastic in the garage couldn’t possibly be a bad thing . . .

I literally had a stress dream last night about the half-painted models on my shelf of shame. There's quite a few that have been half-painted since high school if that helps. I like the rat pack assassins! Have you played Root? Not a miniature game but I think it would be up your alley, there's a digital version of the board game on Steam too, and I think they just released a role playing game based on the lore.

Thanks Nevelon!
DJJazzyJeff--haven't played any yet, but I'd like to. Plus side, it won't add to your stack of grey plastic, because almost everything in the range is single peice metal (except a few single piece resin dudes.)

Don Qui Hotep: I try not to worry about them, I'll get to them evenutally, or I'll die before I do or permanently lose interest, and then either way I don't have to worry about them anymore--doing it for fun after all. (That said, I do kinda stress about active projects, especially ones with self set deadlines like that Warbringer Titan I still haven't kept going on...) I have played Root, though only two games. It was quite fun, and I'd like to grab more. Even just picked up the RPG ruleset...

Some more progress too.
Almost up to basing on the rats:

and the bullgryn version of the bulldog, about ready to wash down:

Thinking about what to make the shield though, not sure which of these I like more, or if either really works:

Any opinions?

Also, finished the Dino marines:

Not sure they're good enough for the challenge though, kinda feel like the andromedan is just a better overall mini.

Some more progress on the rats:
Infantry just waiting on sand and basing bits, will fill me out to three squads and finish off my needs for squad leaders in one platoon:

And committed to a shield, bulldog bullgryn likewise waiting for sanding. Considering putting a sword in that off hand, for visual balance reasons, but I kinda like the not-a-power-fist:

And now hopefully I can corral my brain onto the titan enough to get it done in the next week and a half.

So much cool finished stuff, those dino sculpts are great and love their color scheme. Also love the otherworldly colors on the B & B minis, very fitting!

Mostly did titan assembly, so not much to show from paint night, but did finish this rabbit lady from 2019:

Got the rats done, puts me at 36 for the month, which makes me feel really tired. Also kinda nice because productivity, but still, the burnout will be great. Finished pics:

Fills me out to three squads of infantry, and enough squad commanders for the full platoon. Probably going to try for at least three bullgryn suits, may go for more, though gonna have to do some reposing if so.
Army progress shot:

And a battletech model started, a spotter lancemate for the pink Catapult from before:

Should do more with the titan, but not up to it today. Also got to take final pics for the challenge, but maybe tomorrow late, and if not, got the finished ones from early in the month.

Some layers on titan subassemblies:

Base colors on the raven basically done:

And first color on the undead:

Base colors on the mist ghasts about done:

And I don't think I'm making it with the titan, but there will at least be a good bit of progress...

A little more progress:

Paint Tuesday was mostly random bits and bobs that didn't get finished, sadly, and some progress on the titan but not enough to make it look like I'm likely to have it finished in time, plus I forgot pics, so, hopefully later this week I'll have more.

Quick titan status update after doing a first trim pass:

Needs gold, and then purple wash and some green cleanup before proceeding, but tomorrow got unexpectedly spoken for, so not going to get much further.

And Raven spotter for the previous pink Catapult C5, just needing basing:

Also dropped another highlight on the mist wraiths, but they again look more or less the same, so, maybe later in the week.

More incremental progress:

Basing started on the raven

Mist ghasts getting pretty close. Gotta decide how I feel about the blue, do the blacks and metals and decide how bold I feel about the green flames and osl

Man, I love your pink Battlemechs. Such a bold color choice!

Did you have trouble with reactivation when working with Speedpaints? I want to get my son to paint his Deadzone striketeam, but while he enjoys building models, he doesn't have the patience when it comes time to paint them. Contrast looks like it might be a good solution, but Japan prices are too steep for my wallet.

Now showing a Harlequin Dreadnought!

Painting total as of 4/25/2024: 33 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog

Thanks joshinjapan, pink (and tiger stripes) was the color I wanted to paint, and I figured "its artillery, why not? Who's going to see it?"

Speedpaints, yes, I did. Went away after a few days to a week (kind of stopped working on the dragon a bit as other things came up), and I think it might be a climate thing with drying times--in the DC area, if it helps.

Also got a game of Titanicus in against a cousin, my Legio Lucidium, here using Infernus rules vs his inquisitional themed guys, this time using audax and another legio I don't recall, 2000 points.
The battlefield, though we ended up setting up to only use half:

And the forces:

His blackshield Lupercal and Venator maniples--sensible setup.

My traitor Ignis and Ferrox maniples. I was playing with a meme list of just going full flamethrower on the ignis--model limitations meant I was counts as-ing the flame dudes as double flamer, and still adding one double turbolaser to the group, and me forgetting my rulebooks meant I couldn't mess with corrupted titan rules like I'd meant to.

We used the meeting engagement map, I had engage and destroy, he had take and hold.
Deployment:

I spread too much, and didn't properly use terrain--I was worried I would get hung up on the terrain as I had two very close range intensive maniples and figured I needed to charge up into him fast, while he was set up assuming I would probably group more and just hammer in.

Turn 1 I tried to pop full stride across the board, but only got 1 off, leading to him being rather exposed:

My reaver lost voids (which I later realized I probably could have bastion shielded to stay up) and the lead hound got rather beat up, really only hanging by a thread, so turn 2 I tried to get him into range to either flame or at least explode on the other guy, which he...kinda did? Reactor blew at damage control, dying wild fire caught and downed voids of an enemy warhound.

Reaver got war march, warp displacement, and the traitor undying hatred popped on him, but I failed my charge and miscalculated the range (and rolled slightly low), so well out of range still. He popped off a nice melta shot that killed the voidless warhound...and then ate all the return fire and died, while the other half of his force killed down another flamer warhound.

Turn three I tried to just get the last flamer hound into range as a morale victory and at least try to see what flamers could do.

The answer was..."maybe drop voids, and do some minor damage" though some poor luck on rolls didn't help.
Last flamer blew up in return, and we called it there, because it was late and at that poi t there really was no way left for me to pull it through.

Lessons learned:
Try to coordinate everybody's movements, don't go full flamer so you have some fireback ability, and focus fire kills. We both thought I could possibly also have gotten a bit more if I'd used the flamer dudes as more of a haunting force around the refinery in the corner and forced him to come out to me, but feel it was a bit of a bust for the maniple.

Started basing on the mist ghasts:

Needs a layer of matte, and some detail so its not just a big open space on them, and I think the green needs to come up closer to white, but still, getting close.

And mist ghasts all done.

Almost feel I should have left the rims red brown, but ah well. Matched them to my other undead rather than the other B&B ghasts.

Hopefully get him done soonish.

The mistghasts are looking great. Really nice popping ectoplasmic green. Nice work.

I think the bases look pretty good with the black edge. The green and black is a better contrast than with the brown I think.

Looking forward to seeing how this dragon fella progresses. His shield is pretty nice. I like the colour choices. Some nice surface shading in there too.

Thanks, theCrowe! Hoping I can bring the dragon in Ok.
Tired and sprained thumb today, so only minimal work at paint night. Paint test mule for wolf patterns before committing to the mierce wolf, and a Tiefling or demon or something from IIRC reaper, still needing some washes and nmm:

Likely to be a bit slow for the rest of the week...

Thanks Viterbi. Sadly, probably going to be fall until I get another crack, but to be fair, I won the last one, and hopefully I won't forget my rules next time.

Getting close to finished with the demon and foxes:

And started some mostly feline swashbucklers:

Also, glued up the dragon, need to do some bits with the horns, teeth, and touchups:

Might get some done this week, might not, we'll see.

And a little more progress. Real life getting in the way, so didn't get to paint night, and not as far as I'd like, but almost there.

Gotta start thinking about may challenge models, and getting the final pics for april...
