My army I am making is retro, not only is it made up of regular old school marines, they are in mark iii armor to boot.

But.... small catch, I thought it would be fun to include a unit of Eliminators in this retro looking army, but Eliminators are Primaris. For aesthetic reasons I want them in same regular marine sized mark iii armor as the rest of my units.

First question, does this sit well with folks. Second question is how much difference is the height between the old and Primaris marines (and are Eliminators just as tall as other Primaris)? Should I add rocks to the bases for my dudes to stand on to make up the difference?

I think the height difference is pretty pronounced.

However what about going for Horus Heresy models that fill the same role?

Mkiv recon maybe? Bt using your mkiii parts?

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Easy fix, just upscale the MkIII guys.
Otherwise, downscale the Eliminators. Maybe put their parts on Palanite Enforcers if you don't want to do a large amount of converting.

Come with me if you want to live.
Wait, what?

Scouts on 32mm bases standing on rocks and add a power pack. Easy peasy.

You can use 40mms is you must, but you need a tons of extra scenic elements on the base to offset the extra space. On 32mm the scouts have the same proportion to the base as Elims have on 40mm, but if you put the Scouts on 40mm without some extra elements, they end up looking even smaller

Here's the Eliminators I converted for my sons. The center model in each group is a Shadowspear Elim for scale (and is each unit's Sgt)
Spoiler:

As you can see, when properly models, even Scouts will have the same height/silhouette to Primaris Eliminators

Oh crap, I’m dumb, I didn’t even realize they were on 40mm bases. Thank you for pointing that out. And I like the height fix example.

The actual models’ increased size bothers me less than their non mk iii ness lol. But it seems easier to use mkiii parts and prop them up on terrain then it does to make a priamris sized marine in the mkiii style. Decisions decisions.

Is upscaling the marine itself easy? I don’t know what this entails and my greenstuff skills are very basic.

The traditional way is to add a slice of 1mm plasticard to the torso and thighs of the models to lengthen them, as that's where most of their "stumpy" looks comes from. It'd be pretty easy to do on the torso, as putting it below the belt both gives you an immediate bit of depth change to distract the eye and hides any mistakes behind the dangling plates mkiii has.

The thigh extender's going to be harder, though, as there's a lot of edge or stepped detail that's harder to replicate in the middle of the legs (the ideal spot, as you'll maintain the right amount of armor). It'd probably be easiest to do right at the hip joint (just a straight cut at the appropriate angle on the attached leg), as it's half done for you, the marine's arms will somewhat cover the area, and any dodgy plasticard/greenstuff work can be explained away a bit by the flexible nature of the joints there.

Granted, having just your sniper guys be a head taller than everyone else might look a little weird.

Trimarius, thanks for the explanation.

Hmm, maybe I do a hybrid, only add a bit of plasticard on bottom of torso at the waist, and then have them stand on raised terrain?
