Hi all, I have a question.

I've decided to build an Ultima Founding Raven Guard successor chapter. Meaning all Primaris.

I am not a fluff bunny.

Do Primaris chapters have Scouts? Do they in general have the standard "old school" Marine stuff, like Predators and so on? Or if I go fluffy, will it be only Primaris Marines and grav tanks?

Thanks much!

Primaris do indeed have scouts, it's unlikely that they employ old school vehicles. as such a Primaris army vehicle wise would use redemptor dreads, repulsors and impulsors, and naught else.
dread wise however you might be able to get away with a classic dread. they'd be rare but if you wanted to preserve the knowledge of a first chapter master or something I could see ultima founding chapters using them, given the redemptor's tendancy to burn it's pilots out

There’s no reason that primaris chapters can’t field classic space marine vehicles but in general GW tends to push all primaris for new chapters.

If you do want to include primaris units and classic space marine units the easiest explanation would be an ultima founding for a chapter believed to have been recently destroyed. Several chapters were “reborn” as all primaris chapters. Given the horrible record keeping in the Imperium, part of the original chapter could have survived and the two chapters could be merged into one. That would give you a fluff reason for fielding mixed units

Scouts are really the main thing I was interested in.

What about aircraft? There are no primaries flyers.

(as an aside, the Iron Ravens, an UF chapter, are described as specializing in Drop Pod assaults -- which Primarus can't do?)

Scouts are certainly present in all Primaris Chapters.

Additionally, we see Land Raiders in the armoury of the Silver Templars, an explicitly Primaris-only Chapter recently created in the Ultima Founding. Therefore, I actually don't see how you couldn't have Land Raiders or other "normal" Space Marine vehicles. Just try and avoid having any Firstborn Space Marines visible on them, if you want to keep the illusion of Primaris only.

Sgt_Smudge is correct. I made my marine army all Primaris and a custom chapter. I tried to keep any of its lore not explicitly incompatible with the lore. My chapter very much used Scouts with a longer career time than most chapters as my chapter treats scouts more like secret agent teams (They are used in Kill Team all the time but rarely in full games). I even have a Stormraven in which I just say lore wise is configured for supplies which gives them the Rapid Assault successor chapter tactic because my chapter excels in superior logistics allowing them to have more ammo on hand. I would much rather be able to use the Stormraven to transport troops, but I will make the model work within the rules coming up with a background reason for they way they work while staying Primaris only. I'll admit, Drop Pods are pretty useless to an all Primaris army though.

Re: Scouts and Primaris chapters, the new Codex is pretty clear that Primaris trainees are sent in as Phobos equipped Vanguard rather than going through Scout training.

Where?

As per the experiences of Brother Pollandus in the current Codex (an Indoctrinated Primaris Marine), we see that he's first recruited as a neophyte (aka, a Scout) before he goes anywhere near Phobos armour.
While the 10th Company features both Scouts and Vanguard forces, Primaris recruits aren't thrown straight into Phobos armour. They still serve as Scouts, as per the current Codex.

Looking at page 14 of the codex, it looks like the new recruit (Pollandus), spends time as a scout until his organs mature and then becomes a Reiver of the 10th company.

There is indeed a weird disconnect with the vehicles. In the fluff the Primaris seem to use Drop Pods and even Land Raiders, yet in the game they can't.

I tend to consider Centurions honorary Primaris Marines. The fact that they can't ride in a Repulsor is ok since they kind of don't want to in the first place.
