Subject: How do the Black Templars feel about Primaris?
|
 |
Rampaging Carnifex

With every passing day it becomes increasingly difficult for me not to own some Primaris of my own, and if I'm going to have some they're going to be painted up as my absolute favorite god damn chapter. The absolutely insane, ridiculously over the top, chain-their-weapons-to-their-freakin'-arms Black Templars. The question is, do they actually even have Primaris in their ranks? The Black Templars seem like they'd be an overly traditional, stubborn, and uncompromising bunch even by Space Marine standards. Would they accept Cawl's new breed of super soldiers? Is there anything in Black Llibrary or any other publication that mentions Primaris being used by the Templars?

As far as I remember, there was a fluff piece from the previous SM book that had Guilliman admonishing Helbrecht for being fixated on hunting Ghazzy at the expense of neglecting his duties to the wider Imperium, causing Helbrecht to go to help out Ecclesiarchal worlds within reach. It's in the same fluff blurb that it says he welcomed both Guilliman and the Primaris. So unless that's been changed, they're definitely one of the chapters that have incorporated them.

In new fluff I've read, the templars have been... curtailed, a little. At Cadia, they followed dark eldar into a webway portal as part of the escape...
...and they didn't light A SINGLE XENO ON FIRE!!!!
As far as normal play, Primaris work like primaris - they don't join crusader squads, you can't swap their not-bolters for the bolt-pistol+chainsword combi like with Initiates. Unique rules, relics and stratagems aside, they work just like primaris ultramarines, or primaris iron hands.
Part of me is a little worried they'll even get psykers with the psychic awakening...

I miss the Black Templars being zealous to the point of stupidity, it felt much more 40k appropriate.

There's a wonderful bit in one of the Beast novels where the Imperial Fist turned Lord Commander of the Imperium gets so sick of the Black Templars High Marshal that he just cracks and belts him one straight in the face

You know I remember one of the Uriel Ventris novels having an IF pull a knife on Ventris and threaten to kill him. Is that a thing with Fists? BA lost self control when Sanguinius died and when Dorn died the Fists lost all their patience.

The Fists can suffer through the Douring which is basically where they become as depressed an irratable as Dorn became at the death of the Emperor.
Basically they become cranky old men.

Everyone loves Primaris Marines, bar none, because otherwise sales might be impeded.

Pretty much this, Guilliman was raised by elder sorcery and revealed a hidden army he created secretly with e Renegade tech priest.
The Black Templar’s were literally made to blam Guilliman if this situation came to pass even without the Xenos based heresy or that was always the strong hint from there original fluff that the Templar’s were created the way they were because Dorn did not trust Guilliman to honour his own plan to breakdown the legions.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis |

If Derp Angels let them in the Deathwing, anything is possible /rainbow
Intercessor squads have pretty enviable basic close combat stats if you want to play them aggressively. Assault bolt rifles are now assault 3 and their Sergeant can add a free chainsword or add a fist. On a 3+1 attack model. So 5 with chainsword on the charge or 4 power sword/fist attacks.

There are no primaris in the Deathwing, I am ignoring that white dwarf fanfiction until I see it in a novel or have actual rules for it.

Isn't Deathwing all Termies all the time? Didin't notice Primaris Termies..
Wouldn't Primaris be their own "wing" ?
I think the same goes for Black Templars. They are not part of the Crusader squads. Not part of the sword brethren. Just a bunch of new guys, applying for membership. The crusader host would allow them to follow and to battle the xeno, the heretic etc pp but maybe more like that IG-regiment on their left flank or these sisters on their right than real BT. Earn your place at the battle line.
And yes, we are going to use our Land Raiders and if you can't find a seat you have to walk ....

Primaris are so special they get their own Inner Circle. Because a Chaplain couldn't bring them into the current Inner Circle on his own authority (dumb) he just made his own Circle. Which is somehow dumber.

This was literally one of the first primaris art pieces:

It pretty much was a fanfic. The part about centurion devastators and captain Balthasar....
One of those things written by somebody who hasn't picked up the Codex in at least a year.

Yeah, well I'm going to do one better then you, I'm ignoring it even if it's in a codex until the CEO of Games Workshop personally tells me it! codices are just fan fiction until then!

The White Dwarf lore bits are written by the design studio and are equally canon to other GW publications.
My money is that (for now) Deathwing Primaris are Aggressors. Inceptors and Suppressors likely act with the Ravenwing since they jump packs can let them keep up with the bikes.
