Recently I picked up the creeping vine kit to breath some life into my terrain and I gotta say I absolutely love them. I didn't expect them to be made of a softer plastic and thought I'd have to heat them up to bend around pieces and actually be a nightmare.
Anyway I figured I'd make a thread asking if you guys have picked up a relatively new product that you ended up liking more than you expected, be it terrain, a new unit, contrast, etc

I got some Infiltrators and Intercessors, and I'm really digging the models. Way better than I thought they'd be, much better than my old Tactical marines.

A Mostly Renegades and Heretics blog.
GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH. |

The only one I've actually bought is Syll'Esske, but my favourite is the new Keeper of Secrets.
I may have a slight bias.

Right before the price hike, the Sepulchral Guard or Rattlebonesy-whatnots from Shadespire. A nice box of seven skeletons (using them in a dungeon crawl) with shockingly restrained sculpts and more in line with classic fantasy than the AoS mess. One of the few products I felt was fairly priced for the quality from GW. The barbarian box was okay too (not quite as great on the sculpt front).

Difficult to say, I tend to like pretty much every new release they do except a few things.
But I barely bought anything this year, I would say my latest purchase was the SM and Ultramarines codices and I was nicely surprised to be honest. I wish I had the Salamanders one for example because I almost already know everything about the Ultramarines by heart but they are lovely little books with plenty of informations and stories and pictures !

Apocalypse. Or the new Edition of Lotr.
Modelwise maybe the Great Unclean Ones because it has all the options in the Box and also looks cool.

Good to know about the creeping vine kit, was considering doing the same to liven up some older ruins.
I've been really impressed with the shattered stormvault warcry terrain box. Objectively good value and the temples are huge, taller than old box dread. It's also just really good terrain, basically hills/topography without being exactly that.

Ugh I'd love to buy this but I gotta finish up my terrain from the Admech/ GSC kill team box. At least they dyed the plastic so I didn't feel too bad leaving it for so long

Good value overall for the terrain or for an addition to Warcry?

I will admit I really like Syll'Esske, but I can't claim it since my Slanesh are a back-burner project and I haven't bought him (it? them?) yet.
I liked the Invictor Warsuit better than I expected.

Two Dominion of Sigmar: Shattered temples cost as much as the Shattered Stormvault. You only get 8 pillars in the Stormvault rather than 16, but you get 2 gryph statues, two rectangle plates, two braziers, 1 vault, the cardstock flats and tokens, cards, etc.

They're not new, but I recently picked up the painting handle and the texture tool. I had avoided them for the longest time because they seemed patently ridiculous and massively overpriced (particularly the texture tool). I'm not sure why I decided to try them out - I think I was just really flush that month - but they're actually both great; Yes! Even the texture tool (although it's still massively overpriced)!

All the new marine kits are Primaris and I'm really not interested in those. No new Tyranid model has come out, either. All my purchases have been older kits, with the exception of the codex and UM supplement. They sort win by default. I bought a contrast paint but I haven't gotten the chance to try it yet.

Not sure really. Not super new, but I'll give it a mention for reasons. Myphtic Blight Hauler. They were out of stock for awhile but I got a few of them.
I like the kit, and the models done me proud and I don't feel like GW picked my pockets for the price. All in all a win for me, but then I love their ETB stuff for the most part. Having cheaper options will always get my appreciation from GW.

A toss up between the Painting Handle and Warhammer Underworlds Dreadfane.
The handle is something that I wish I had of used decades ago, been painting minis for 30 odd years and didn't think a handle would be useful. How wrong was I! Absolute game changer, and the GE one is actually really good, well priced for what it is.
Warhammer Underworlds Dreadfane, a complete game in a box that has a lot of replay value. Been a while since GW managed to do one of these. I love how the two Warbands in the game have premade decks and there are no spare cards to alter the decks, it eliminates the illusion of choice that Warhammer Underworlds tends to have, so many cards, yet only a handful are worth while taking. The Hazard deck really adds some interesting elements to the game and keeps it from getting stale. For me it is the pinnacle of the Warhammer Underworlds series. I understand that it was initially intended to be a light version of the main game, but I think it has eclipsed the main game for me.
|
The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused. |

Zarbag's Gitz for Underworlds, such a fun kit and full of character. The fanatic isnt the greatest (other than the squished snotling under it!) due to the constraints of the game tiles but the rest are all top notch.
Been impressed with all the Underworlds kits I have seen so far, other than the Cursebreakers, but the Gitz are my favourite of the lot.

Tough to say..the new GSC stuff was across the board phenomenal. I also got some Idoneth Deepkin in an army swap and they're a joy. I'm excited for new Incubi with functional rules.
I've also never been unhappy with a Necromunda gang. I'll be picking up Goliaths to build some Digganobz at some point.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

The new Apocalypse ruleset. I think I'm done playing standard 8th edition 40k when I can play similar-sized games with Apocalypse's much better ruleset. $70 box with all rules, cards, and markers you need, and all "codex" datasheets for all 40k factions (including FW) available online for free. Good job GW.

Models-wise I think the AoS stuff has been great - nothing much for 40k though model-wise.

Death Guard. I haven't played 40k since the beginning of 6th edition, so when I decided to get back into it in 8th, I was shocked that my favorite CSM unit is now its own army! The models are great! All in plastic too! And tickle me surprised to find out my favorite daemon unit (PLaguebearers) are now ALSO in plastic. Its been a blast.
