40k newb here, be gentle, please....

Bought Dark Imperium and am thinking about what chapter to paint the space marines as. It looks like a few chapters are supported with transfers in the box. I'm kind of interested in a metallic look though and am thinking about silver skulls or silver templars. It looks like the chapter logo for the silver skulls on the chaos space marines transfer sheet (small). But is there a source for transfers for chapter insignias of these available somewhere?

Thanks.

In the far future, the outlook is bleak....

You could also look into buying some Water Slide paper and printing your own. You'll need a sealant to prevent damage like any decal though, or go full tryhard and look into Micro Sol.

Full try hard? I guess so, but the results are worth the 2 minutes it takes to do on a model

I'm a 40k newb but have a lot of experience with plastic modeling. I'm used to using decal softeners and will definitely do that.

@vim, thanks! that link is mighty tasty.

Decal paper that you can just put in a printer has two complete layers rather than a GW decal's one complete backing layer and then individual little islands of actual decal, so getting the decal off the backing and onto the model is a lot more difficult (you have to cut more closely around the decal and you don't have a convenient layer of backing-only to hold onto while applying it). The decal layer also isn't transparent, it's usually white, so you'll need to apply a varnish to make the border go transparent anyway independent of durability. The decals themselves will be sturdier, however, so they're easier to reposition and harder to tear.

If you don't fancy trying to find or make decals and don't mind a more expensive option GW makes moulded pauldron upgrade kits for some of the core Chapters, sometimes just doing a palette swap on one of those produces something completely different (Imperial Fists v. Crimson Fists, for instance). There are also plenty of third-party companies (Kromlech and Puppetswar off the top of my head) that make alternate pauldrons that'll fit Space Marines.

I can vouch for this. Bought Raptor decals and they came out good.
