They weren't "crappy" back then.

You're looking at '89-ish minis with '19 eyes.

As noted by those previous pictures, Space Marines used to have access to antigrav speeder bikes - always wondered why they got taken away?

Also, Dark Angels originally had black armor. A miscommunication with the artist for the cover of the Space Marine game (supplement to the Adeptus Titanicus game) gave them their green colors.

It never ends well

Wazzdakka Gutsmek's main base of operations is Scalex VI.

The chapter master of the Crimson Fists is named after a playtester of Rogue Trader- Pete Cantor.

The cover model for the 2nd ed SOB codex is (supposedly) based on John Blanche's ex-wife.

There is a typo in the (4th ed, 5th ed?) Cities of Death book that is missing one important word. It now reads "Every man is but spark in the darkness".

Thousand Sons Thrall sorcerers once had toughness lower case "L". Plus the Rubrics had two wounds, so the army had a lot going for it.

Dorothy and Toto are the only beings to have successfully navigated Tzeentch's impossible maze.

All of the Dinobots were mounts in the old Lizardmen book. The Lizardmen also had their version of SETI, called XETI.

Zoats ate a food called "Zoatibix".

Those are Space Wolves who “acquired” Blood Angel armor as part of a dare from Russ after hearing the “Levi” story.

It's amazing to me this company became so popular with such crappy sculpts.

Not much for my memory, especially in the sci-fi realm.

It's also important to remember that the quality varied wildly as well. There are actually some really clean sculpts from those days, too.

Ultramarines were originally a third founding chapter before concerning back into an original legion that created all the chapters with the book. Tigerius was originally half eldar because eldar were space elves and and everyone knows elves do magic better I mean my totally not space elves space eldar do my not magic psychic powers better.

Leman Russ was originally an extremely skilled imperial guard tank commander hence the leman Russ battle tank.

The first land speeder was a repurposed deodorant tube.

And I am just going to make a blanket 5e Grey Knights codex fluff that was eyebrow raising how over the top ridiculous weird. Like how murdering Sisters of Battle and bathing in their blood somehow made the most frantically pure and uncorrupted Space Marines ever even more pure and uncorruptable. Because yeah murdering your allies and bathing in their blood totally isn't a Khorne thing at all...

They were literally the only game in town for over a decade. And their competition was just as bad if not worse in most cases.

The standard Codex practice of having Sergeants marked with red helmets was originally a punishment in the Ultramarines Legion.
Legionaries who had committed an infraction were marked for censure with these red helmets, but when the Betrayal at Calth went down, it was the unconventional combat tactics of these 'Red-Marked' which was invaluable, especially Sergeant Thiel. In honour of their skill during the Heresy, Guilliman decided that the red helmet would be a mark of honour, not shame.

And marines could have shuriken catapults.

I thought the dark angels green thing was because of the second space marine paint set. They didn't want to put black in two consecutive sets? It seems there are multiple stories behind that one.

The Word Bearers started off as dedicated fully to Khorne, together with the World Eaters. Rogue Trader Slaves to Darkness days if I remember correctly.

Nope. WB were the summoning army back then. They could have more troop slots than anyone else and could take Possessed just like all the other legions.

I was talking fluff-wise But yeah, they used lesser deamons as canon fodder, but refrained from letting the deamons possess them

I have no source to hand, but if I remember my 2nd and 3rd ed fluff correctly the Leman Russ hull is actually a re-purposed farm tractor. It's part of why you can run one on anything from Prometheum to raw lumber.

I also have no source to hand, but Terminators were originally repurposed maintenance suits used to do repair work on active fusion reactors.

Um, no. They were third founding because they replaced fallen first founding chapter (and were given its arms and gene-sperm reserves, that's how seed was called back then). And that wasn't Tigurius, that was Illiyan Nastase, who was Dark Angel, not Ultramarine, he was only later assigned to Ultramarines as an Astropath.

Except that was the case in 3rd edition of GK book, too, people just didn't turned their brains on and asked themselves 'wait, where GK found these bones of the saints and vials of holy blood they use to ward off daemons'. All 5th edition GK book did was spelling it out (and unlike 4chan morons would tell you, making Sisters more pious, holy, and resistant to corruption than GK was praise, not insult). Not that it matters, Ward could be second coming of Tolkien and you'd still see hatedom of whatever he wrote
