So now that GW has smacked gnoblars hard with the neft bat is there any point in taking them? They still perform their main purpose which is that of tarpitting, but their damagge output has shrunk significantly and I am not sure if ogres need tarpits anymore, since our damage output is so high.

They're still only 5pts a wound. That's cheaper than Zombies. The offense isn't too terrible considering that. They do the job.

Does the army need tarpitting anymore though? Especially when gnoblars are really a poor tarpit when compared to lets say clanrats. Usually more fatties can just remove the threat instead of tarpitting it.

I can see a use case for it. Ogors aren't great against heavy armour, outside of like Stonehorns, so sometimes it will be better to tarpit. It'll be matchup dependent.

Aren’t Ogors and ogroids different things?

Less tarpit and more ablative damage sponge. The thing with Ogors is they melt before dedicated offense. They aren't quite glass cannons due to wound count but their ability to deal damage can be reduced significantly by an offensive swinging first. A line of gnoblars in front ensures that nothing important dies first, and a Tyrant can make that 60-blob battleshock immune at the negligible cost of d3 of them.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.
I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games. |
