I started with Craftworlds 17 years ago. after 7th I fell in love with harlequins and ynnari, had a little thing with militarum tempestus, before I engaged in a serious way with an alpha legion style primaris army (work heavily in progress - playing with the Ravenguard supp.)

Probably because, in 8th edition, Stormtroopers are correctly back to being part of the Imperial Guard book, rather than a weird offshoot with less than half a dozen units.

For a faction that has an entirely different play style to guardsmen and a different regimental structure to guardsmen, they could have gotten their own book or a supplement to the guard book with warlord traits, stratagems, relics, and unique orders.

Well, they got a bit in vigilus. Maybe they'll get more with PA. But they definitely needed to stay part of the guard codex in basic form, they just don't have the tools needed to survive as an army by themselves.

Currently working on three factions; Craftworld, Thousand Sons and Tyranids. Got enough for a small Space Marine detachment too.
Only just returning to 40K after a very long break, and trying to get my head around the new rules which are mostly cool. "Detachments" are very small at the moment, but my personal favourite is the Craftworld which is a supreme command(Farseer & 2 Warlocks), but still waiting on the new Howling Banshees and Jain Zar for the elite choice. Please GW, just hurry up and release them already!
Thousand Sons was a happy-accident in that I have 30 Horrors and a Sorcerer Lord in Terminator armour, which happens to make a Patrol-detachment. It seems to be enough to harrass the Craftworld for the time being...
Genestealers - thousands of them! Well, 22 to be precise but they still need a big cheese to lead them. On the table is a Tyranid Prime, but the other two warriors go to waste(what happened to Warriors being either an Elite or HQ choice? Or at least allow the other two to act as bodyguards? Sheesh!), a Broodlord( who seems the logical choice for something between a regular genestealer and a screamer-killer ) or a female Magus for a Genestealer Cult(not sure about this one). Would also love a screamer-killer, but pricey as they come in a pack of two...which is bloomin expensive when you only want one! I think it'll be a Broodlord as I have gaunts as well, and he kinda stands in for the ye'olde Screamer Killer I had years ago...and also helps that hes a Genestealer too...but the Magus is strutting her stuff in style. Urgh.

My big factions are Tyranids and Tau. (About 10K and 15K points)
Dark Eldar runner-up with about 6K points. Would be more if the range wasn't so narrow...
I am somewhat seriously but slowly working on a Vanguard Primaris army (thanks GW for finally making spess muhreens interesting) and the chapter is a Dark Angels successor hitherto unnamed, as well as an Imperial Guard mechanized infantry desert-themed army.
A budding Chaos Marines army is on its way, but taking a back seat to the above. Alpha Legion/ Thousand Sons
A small force of Orks though it's probably around 3K points if I ever field all of the Deffkoptas, Killa Kans and Deff Dreads at the same time haha.
Got kill teams from all of the above, plus Black Templars.
My first army was Eldar in 2nd edition, but I painted them abhorrently the first time, rebought and retried a second time and still wasn't happy, and lost my will to ever play them again even if I could paint well now.

- CSM consisting of World Eaters, Red Corsairs and someone else, maybe Crimson Slaughter or Alpha Legion.
- Mixed Thousand Sons and Tzeentch Daemons army,
- Death Guard, though at least the building part will be done pretty soon
- Khorne Daemons, as I need to mix things up after removing a prince
