So I'm looking into running a Culexus assassin. One question I have is about its life drain ability. The ability states that invuln saves can not be taken against close combat attacks made. The problem is he has no melee weapons. Do you just make 4 attacks at strength 4 no ap- or does his psk-out grenade or animus spectrum considered close combat?

I thought it was ARMOR saves that couldn't be taken against Life Drain.

You use his generic close combat weapon as described in the core rules.

“Do not ask me to approach the battle meekly, to creep through the shadows, or to quietly slip on my foes in the dark. I am Rogal Dorn, Imperial Fist, Space Marine, Emperor’s Champion. Let my enemies cower at my advance and tremble at the sight of me.”

He makes attacks at S: User, AP: 0, D: 1. But you're straight-up not allowed to take armor saves against his attacks.

So, if he's fighting a Marine, you hit on a 2+, wound on a 4+, and he gets no save.
Terminator, same deal, only he now gets his 5++ Invulnerable save.

And that’s only because Terminator Armour has a layer of Marigold Rubber Glove material.

Awesome that answers one question. My last question is about ethereum. If he can only ne hit on 6's. I assume that things like hand flamers still auto hit or do they still need to roll a 6. Which advantage takes president?

Just read the rules carefully. The Culexus doesn't make anything need a 6, he changes the ballistic skill to 6 (weapon skill too). Flamers still auto-hit because it's irrespective of ballistic skill.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it does NOT state he's only hit on 6s.

It states, if memory serves me, that when targeted, the unit targeting him is treated as having a BS and WS of 6+.

As others have said, with any GW game, you need to pay careful heed to the wording of each rule.

They aren’t always consistent, and that’s not always accidental.

Yeah, despite GW generally having badly written rules, the Culexus rules are surprisingly well-done.

Cool, thanks for all the help. Has anyone ran these effectively. If so what type.of tactics/strategy did you find most successful?
