Wolf Guard Bodyguard in Terminator Armor

Hey guys
Our gaming club is looking to get back into 30k next year with a slow grow Campagin (500pts starting and then 250 each month).
I am looking to do Abhuman Milita with DaoT to represent Squats but other than the standard Grenadiers I am not sure what to start out with.
I was thinking HQ, 2 squads of 10 and a recon squad, but feel this will be very under wealming if someone brings heavy infantry or a tank.
Unlike other lists the choices seem to be very limited.
Anyone done something similar? If so what are your thoughts?

I'd suggest skipping the recon squad and bringing something bigger; the Militia can't sort of bluff their way through the game with mostly infantry the way the Legions can, you really need your heavy firepower. You'll also have a really rough time in the first couple months as Militia whatever you do, just because your Provenances are a flat cost so they're really expensive for not much utility at the beginning.
Twenty Grenadiers, a Force Commander, and those Provenances puts you at 280pts, you probably want a 100-150pt unit to leave you with a bit of room for guns on the Grenadiers. What are definitive iconic Squat units? I'm skimming the Militia list and that's enough to fit a Russ, some Rapiers, 5-6 heavy weapon teams, an Enginseer Auxilia, Sentinels, cheap Ogryn (145pts and you get 3+ armour in SotDA)...

They are basically tougher more advanced Imperial Guard. Back in the day they used Astartes vehicles as well as their own. I may run them with a Mecanicum Ally using a Forge Father type Squat as the Magos.
They used to make use of Exo Suits (sort of poor Terminator Armour) so thinking of throwing in a Orgryn Squad Count as but not sure if I should do that off the bat or if Armour would be better.

The other iconic squat unit was the heavy weapons trike - I'd say a sentinel, especially with combat blades, might do as a counts as.
Abhuman Helots is a given but you could always skip on Survivors of a Dark Age on day one. Yes, it costs you your 3+ save for your grenadiers but also frees up 75 points.
In 500 points you're going to struggle. I'd say a rapier laser destroyer or two should be more than good enough antitank.
'Trikes' with multimeltas were a thing and are a nice cheap option but don't rely on them because if there's one tank you absolutely MUST kill you know the bloody thing is going to have armoured ceramite.
One thing you should think about is how you ultimately want to use your grenadiers: militia grenadiers are of questionable value as a unit of ten with rifles- which means buying them to stuff in a think or aurox isn't too effective. Twelve (ten plus special weapons) isn't too bad - and fits in either an arvus lighter or terrax assault drill, letting you dump a unit with all the flamers in close, otherwise your next stop is a 'firing line' with eighteen lasrifles, two rotor cannon and advanced weapons that can make insulting "a small arms fight you say?" gestures at legions astartes units, especially if you attach a medical orderly.

Thanks guys,
Good shout on dropping DaoT.
Got a 499pt list that I am happy with to start.
Commander with nothing too fancy just carapace
2x 12 squat squads with boltguns. 2 with meltas 2 with plasma (tempted to drop the meltas for Stubbers rotor)
2x Rapier Laser Destroyers.
Now to find stand in destroyers with no crew

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did. |

I would love to see a Squat army! Once you get going, post us a link to see your painted models.
I’ve used the militia rules a few times with a force of infantry and light vehicles and I tend to get crushed by Space Marines. I’m not sure how they come up with the point values but an equal value of militia infantry tends to get spanked pretty hard by Marine infantry in my experience. Now if you have grenadiers, power armor, bolters, etc., maybe it will be more even for you. Good luck and I hope to see your squats sometime.
