Subject: Creating my own Chapter - Looking for Advice and Oppinions
|
 |
Fresh-Faced New User
|
I am a fan of 40k since 8-9 years i think ( mainly about books, PC-games, Lexicanum....) and because of the Conquest magazine from Gamesworkshop ( which is released this month in my country, germany) i have started to collect a tabletop army ( the first in my life, finally )
First, i dont like the Ultramarines chapter in total.
Its to generic for me in regarding of Specialization and so i decide to create my own, my personal chapter. ( i know maybe it is not hte best idea as a newcomer but i will try xD)
I like the Imperial Fists and their Doctrines and Tactics but the Style of the Black Templar too.
So i want my own chapter to be a Successor of the Imperial Fists but with a big touch of the Black Templar Style.
It will be a Primaris Only Chapter form the Ultima Founding btw.
I have already Painted my first Miniature ( a Primaris Marine ) with the Color scheme Black ( basic color ) Gold for Details ( like the Aquila on the Chest and the edges of the Shoulderplates) and Red for Things like eyes and capes and so on ( if i had red already)
The Chapter will be hear of the Name Shields of Terra under their Chapter Master Jorhann Stahl.
As Homeworld i would Choose Vorstrad in the Segmentum Pacificus.
So now the Part why i am here, is this theoretical Possible or have i already made a mistake in regarding of location, name or something like its already exist ( name ) or it cant be located there....
All kind of advices, hints and of course oppinions are welcome.

Sounds cool all around, DIY chapters let you pick a theme without locking you into any specific set of chapter specific rules.-imperial fists today, crimsons fists tomorrow etc..
My DIY force are technically a salamanders successor but I made up my own back story about their tactic and their recruitment world that ties directly into the combat doctrine they follow. all of it my own creation. there are millions of worlds in the imperium's domain so you are not really limited on what you can do unless you are trying to use worlds and forces already well documented in lore.

Creating your own chapter is honestly the best way to go about playing Marines IMO. Don't concern yourself too much with the opinions of strangers on the internet about the nitty gritty of your chapter, 40K is a setting that accommodates a very diverse range of ideas for things like this so let your imagination go crazy and do whatever you like with your marines. They're your marines, after all!

@OP:
You are a bit late. Everybody and his dog did their own chapter back in 4th when the codex encouraged it along with tons of special rules.
Here is how I did my own chapter back in the day:
1. Choose an insignia which you can actually paint as a chapter symbol.
2. Choose a paint scheme which you enjoy to paint.
3. Everything else.

This right here should be the heart of the 40k hobby. Personally I think people get WAY too serious about the established chapters (or other established subsets of a faction/race) instead of being creative with the setting. It only gets worse with GW trying to stick rules to different chapters/septs/etc. Anyways be creative and make your little plastic figures your own. Just in general its good to avoid having their background lore being too closely tied to any well established canon events.

Qualifier: The First Rule of Fanfiction is to avoid things that would invalidate other peoples' lore. There are certain basic truths of the setting (things like "Chaos is an insidious corrupting force that the Imperium doesn't really understand", "Warp travel is the only way humans have to move around the galaxy", and "humans having friendly chats with aliens or doing weird sorcery things tend to get declared heretics and purged"), so if you start writing a Chapter that has a secret special FTL drive they got by chatting to some Necrons and the Inquisition decided that they're pretty cool and left them alone it's going to annoy people because it challenges the assumptions they make when writing their own lore.
Do make up whatever you like, but try to consider how it fits in the context of the setting and whether it is or should be possible in the context of how other lore works. Your goal in writing lore should be to add to the setting, not to correct the setting.

Nah. People can do what they want, however much you personally may disagree. The whole reason for there being two missing primarchs is for players to make up their own chapters with whatever geneseeds they want. You can fluff your dudes however you want and as long as you abide by the rules of the game no one is allowed to stop you because your personal head canon doesn't invalidate anyone elses when the models are on the table.

Right, but if you DO do something that egregiously against what's established, be prepared for people to rag on you for it. You do you-but they can do them too.
