Hello All,

It's been a while, but I want to get back into XWing Tabletop. First edition was a rock solid rule set and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Now I'm looking to get my collection updated, and expand it a bit.

So right now I'm looking to pick up a few things:
Empire Conversion Kit
Rebel Conversion Kit
New Core Kit (provides me with two more TIEs, and X-Wing, and a physical copy of the rule book and base damage cards)
A few rebel ships to better balance out the two forces I have.

I believe that'll be everything I need to retrofit what I currently have?

Also, thoughts on the version 2 rules? I've been reading through the free PDF provided on the official site, and most everything looks like version 1.

The coming weeks look expensive...

Hi, welcome back.

V2 is even more rock solid than v1 thanks to the removal of certain auto include cards and NPE stuff (TLT, PTL, Harpoons etc.etc.)

Your buying list looks good and will enable you to get up and playing, it is worth noting that the conversion kits only allow you to convert a limited number of ships so if you want to fly something spammy then you might have to buy/borrow some other stuff and the physical rulebook is not needed. Download the Rules Reference instead.

As for the rules, well everything is superficially the same (ie. the core mechanics) but there are still massive differences. Whilst a lot of the rules are just tidying and clarifying things from v1 of note there is also;
The game is now seven factions.
New obstacles in the form of gas clouds available from the starter sets for Republic and CIS as well as the new obstacle pack coming out.
New strain and deplete tokens.
Different game formats (extended, hyperspace and quickbuild).
Medium bases.
Force powers/users/mechanic.
Most ships dials and hull/shield ratios have changed.
Barrel rolls and Talon rolls now work slightly differently.
Turrets are no longer 360 degree and have single or dual arcs.
Bombs, mines and remotes are now dropped in their own phase (system phase).

I am sure there is more stuff but that's what leaped to mind, most of it you will quickly pick up.

Sounds good. I'm happy to hear that they are still expanding upon the game.

Really looking forward to playing this again.

Looked over my first edition stuff. The rebels really need some friends.

While I'm here, question: Does the second edition conversion pack for Rebels include pilot cards for the ships? (I'm assuming it does, but I need to confirm.)

I'm thinking about picking up the Scum factions "Most Wanted" pack as reinforcements for the Rebels, seeing that the pack contains two Z95s and a Y-Wing. But, I want to make sure that I'll have the proper rebel pilots and dials for them.

Also, some of the first ed stuff floating around Amazon is 50% off... Nice way to get some extra ship models.

The conversion kits include one of each named pilot per ship as well as a number of generics and the Rebel kit will enable you to convert over both the Most Wanted kit as well as what you already have.

Worth noting that Firesprays are Scum only now.

On the 1st edition stuff, check against the number of ships each conversion kit contains (number of dials) before buying as you don't want to go over board and find out that you cant field stuff.
Also, some of the rereleased v2 packs contain new sculpts (Y-Wing and B-Wing being notable, B-Wing now spins!) but they do not contain any cards that you will not get in the core or conversion kits.

Last question: Seems a lot of ships are hard to find these days? K-Wing is totally missing, TIE Phantom is only available online for $40... Seems to be a weird mix of first edition and second edition stuff floating around and it makes things difficult.

FFG having issues converting things over to second edition or...?

Also strikes me weird that the new A-Wing is in blue and not the traditional red featured in the movies.

The most famous one was in green until the Executor bridge changed it to black.

The X-Wing/Tie-Fighter simulator simulator series usually striped the color based on their squadron color.

Yeah it can be tricky to find some stuff and takes some hunting. You can still pick up bulk deals on Facebook and ebay and the like though. FFG is having issues with the reprints, mostly they were not selling very well as people either already had them from 1st edition or FFG chose to reprint stuff that just wasn't very good (like all of the Scum stuff). This has lead to a rumour that FFG are not going to do reprints for the rest of this year and focus on new stuff, this has not been officially announced (outside of them cancelling some reprints we were told were coming) but is very likely.

Also strikes me weird that the new A-Wing is in blue and not the traditional red featured in the movies.

The original A was in Red then repainted in Rebel Aces in blue, the current blue one is the colour scheme from the Rebels TV series Phoenix Squadron.

What has been cancelled for X-Wing 2.0, I am also slowly about to return.. have a few friends that got interested over Christmas and starting to drag my stuff back out...

Also not played a game in a while and almost none in 2.0.. Things like "crew card" perceptive co-pilot, after you perform a focus action, you receive two tokens now?? one for the pilot action and one for the copilot card?

So far it has been announced (on twitch or discord) that the reprint of the Imperial Raider, Saw's Renegades and the TIE Reaper have been cancelled. It was strongly hinted at that pretty much every other reprint is being put on hold for the year, there has been no official word but the fact that wave 7 was announced without any reprints in it strongly supports the thought.

Yeah that's how perceptive co-pilot works.

The Republic starter box was definitely more of what the game needs. Repacking the reprints as singles really left them biting off more than they could handle. Rereleasing as little squad bundles would have worked out a lot better, IMO.

Maybe. I've got four Scum Z-95s I never use because I wanted two Scum Y-Wings.

One of the big lessons being learned these days is that games need to be packaged in a way that makes sense for retail but at the same time, the game needs to be designed in such a way that supports the packaging. Malifaux recently starting boxing commons with uniques in their box sets. Normally that would be a disaster, but the box contains the maximum allowance of that common. Similarly, X-Wing has always struggled by having 3-4 ships on the table max. If ships had limits the old models could be bundled accordingly. Keep in mind, I'm mostly talking about how the 1.0 ships were relaunched as individual blisters. That massively stalled out the game rather than being done in a way that let new players catch up while the developers focused on keeping the game moving forward.

Have been informed that Miniature Market is currently doing an X-Wing sale and has loads of v1 stock.
https://www.miniaturemarket.com/table-top-miniatures/x-wing.html#/?_=1&filter.product_tag=On%20Sale&page=1

Including both Saw's Renegades and the TIE Reaper that are second edition as well.

Yeah, Miniature market has a sale right now with a number of ships that you mentioned not getting a repack... I think 2.0 might have been handled incorrectly and it's coming back to haunt them.
I know a number of FLGS that still has a glutton of first edition stuff, with no one buying it.

It's still not a bad game.. but it seems to lost a lot of steam it once had. The local gaming groups seem like less people and the ones that stay seem to reduce the number of factions they own and play.
Plus I know very few people that are buying the repacks and if they do its usually just a few, not like before in the previous edition.

How much has the points changed since moving away from putting them on the cards? The over haul on the rules wasn't that bad it seems but changing up all the supporting card to get people to rebuy
the game to continue play is hazardous to any game system.

Asmodee is having a massive shake up at the moment and it is impacting everything (negativley if you are a customer) but it is still the third best selling game in NA, so it cant be doing that poorly but I havent seen much in the way of new blood locally which is worrying.

Getting people to buy stuff has been a struggle for them in 2.0, after getting a conversion kit and new core alot of people I know have bought nothing else for the original three factions, because there has been no need. A few people have picked up some of the reprints just because they like the new model better (seen this mostly with Fangs) and other people have picked up the new factions whislt a couple have meta chased and picked up loads of TAPs or TIE/sf, but it is nothing in comparison to v1 where everyone and their dog picked up multiple Auto thruster expansions and got loads of free Starvipers...

With points changes, it has happened four or five times so far, some minor and some major changes. Generally for the better but not always (especially for Scum players) and the rules have changed in some pretty major ways as well.

I do think that v2 was deffinetly needed and think that the game is much better now than it was, there are pretty much no NPEs at the moment but something needs to happen pretty sharpish or the game is going to slide into oblivion. It seems like FFG are going to try and use card packs to prop things up but I do wonder if squadron packs might be a better option. As it stands both of the most Iconic factions (Rebs and Imps) are getting no new ships and havent since v2 has started and that is a problem. If FFG cant get people who only play those factions to start buying again they are leaving lots of money on the table. My Brother for example is an Imps only player, since v2 has been released he has purchased exactly one thing from retail, a conversion kit. he has purchased another five ships second hand but FFG are not making money off him. For myself I have bought a conversion kit and a core (which netted two damage decks) for Scum and the multiplayer pack. I did buy into Republic though but even that has been a modest investment (one Guardians box, 2x n1, 1x Y and 1x ARC). Whereas in v1 we were buying pretty much everything that was released even if we didnt play the faction, some of it was card chasing, some just to have the model. Another thing that I have noticed is that the secondary market for Alt Arts appears to have died completely, never see it come up for v2.

I just started this month converting over my massive X-Wing collection after I got annoyed by the way the conversion to 2.0 rolled out...
So I got the scum imperial and rebel conversion kits
I got the huge ship conversion and epic battle kits
I picked up a plastic range ruler set so 2 people can play
I bought 2 packs of the plastic imperial dials to use my old tie fighter dials with since they didn’t change and I have 10 tie/ln
I got 2 packs of rebel plastic dials to convert use for z95s or ywings w scum dials if needed.
I preordered the new card packs and a new damage deck so 2 people can play
I still have interceptors awings X-Wing and bwings I can’t use without getting another rebel or imperial conversion kit
I can only field 2 of 4 imperial/rebel epic ships unless I get another huge ship conversion...
I picked up the reaper and saws on sale at minature market even if saws had some misprint issues but you can’t beat 50% off..
I picked up a few other ships I was missing like tie striker and quadjumper... I’m looking for a tie aggressor but that’s impossible (as is the alpha star wing) to find in 1.0... I suspect we might get reprints of sold out ships like this at some point.
I plan on picking up a lando falcon and another fang fighter maybe 2 mining guild ties as I like the look of them... that’s it. Ffg issue seems to be selling repacks isn’t as marketable as selling new wanted ships but so far this was a very expensive conversion for me and mostly just to play with what I already own. I don’t even have enough certain 2.0 tokens either shield crit evade mostly.
Still waiting for the official 2.0 revamped app since it’s not even updated for epic ships but I did download one of the aftermarket player made fixes for this mess up.
Overall I’m glad I waited now to convert since it seems ffg is just getting settled after 2 years especially this last point adjustment sadly it seems the conversion process resulted in a sales stalling but it sounds like people are coming back which is good as the game is better now. Good thing my son just turned 7 so I have someone to teach it too and play with.

Played my first game, really glad I got back into it. X-Wing really is one of the best tabletop games I have played.

Only major issue - the bomb cards. They specify how to drop them, but don't say what the bombs actually do. Myself and my opponent (who was playing the game for the first time ever) kept having to refer to the internet to find out what bombs did what. What am I missing in this regard?

Also still trying to get my hands on some ships I don't have. That Alpha Class Star Wing and the K Wing are high on my list. Just a matter of finding them.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

What bombs (and mines) do is at the back of one of the pdfs that FFG have on the site, I cant remember if it is the rules reference or the other one though and cant check at the moment.

Good luck in finding a Gunboat and K-Wing, they are apparently hard to track down at a not inflated price, would rcommend trying smaller stockists around the web.

Certain ships are impossible to find... not at minature market or CSI, or amazon. Ebay has inflated prices... your best bet is trolling local games stores, Barnes and nobles, or if your target still has a section of X-Wing. If you get lucky you may find what you need the ships I find that are near mpossible are kwing auzituck, gunboat, tie aggressor and Sabine’s tie... there may be more.
They haven’t remade these ships for 2.0 and they stopped making the first edition ships.... I think we will slowly get them reintroduced since the stock out there is gone however who knows when that will happen. They just cancelled the 2.0 release of saws renegades, tie reaper, and the imperial raider since there is to much 1.0 stock out there. I don’t even know why they decided to rerelease saws and reaper so quickly when the boxes had 2.0 stuff in it. So I ended up picking them up from minature market since they put them on clearance prices thinking the new release was coming. If you want to buy them at 50% off go for it.

Yeah its weird how some ships have a large discounted stock while others are high amounts.. Guns for Hire for example are just repaints basically and go for top dollar.
FFG should have figured in the first edition stock before moving over to second. Game stores are usually ran on a shoe string budget and if they already have a pile
of stuff not moving. Why buy the new edition of it in hopes that it will sale.
Plus, I actually looked for Saws renegades before the MM sale and couldn't find it anywhere. Then stacks of them for half off..
Every release of existing ships should have a new paint design, because I don't see any of the original factions moving that much because no one needs twenty more basic tie fighters.
The game rules are still not a clear as they could be, no where in the basic rules does it say how many force power cards you get. And that is normal for the rules. FFG is in a better place than
Privateer press but most of the damage is their own doing. But I am sure the Disney Licences is not a fun thing either to deal with.
