40k FW news came out over the weekend at Las Vega Open.

The existing Indexes are going Last Chance to Buy. According to information released at LVO this is to make way for new FW Indexes to cover, supposedly, new releases for 40k.

So, if you're looking to pick up any outstanding Indexes, now's the time.

This has me thinking that perhaps the reason the Custodes never got a book for their 40k rules was because of this.

I just hope they finally fix the points on the hellforged/relic super heavys.

Titans (especially void shields) need a full rework. And macro weapons were just a weird gimmick that doesn't really make sense mechanically. And if GW proper puts them out, hopefully that will end some of the boo ho fw isn't actually gw legal and it's all broken nonsense.

I wonder if these books will have a background element to them, so they are more like a regular codex or the IA books? If GW were just doing a V2 of the index's wouldn't they just announce that, instead of keeping them under wraps?

See I’d kinda gotten the opposite impression: Macro is a very good mechanic for representing what’s going on with superheavies and the main issue Is that GW proper units that’s should have it don’t.

I kind of don't like the current implementation of Macro (in theory)*. I think they wanted weapons designed to kill titans to be good at it without it being the negative experience that Strength D was. However, I think that maybe double wounds might make that class of weapons a little too good at killing titanic units and a little too bad at killing smaller stuff.

I think that maybe changing Macro weapons to just do more damage (but not double) all the time but giving them a -1 to hit units that lack the Titanic or Building keyword might be a better solution, but I'm not sure.

*I haven't played with or against anything that has the Macro keyword, so this is all a bunch of uninformed nonsense on my part. The only Titanic unit I have experience with is the Stompa, which has no Macro weapons and in theory is very vulnerable to them, so that might be a source of bias on my part.

Did anyone hear anything about AoS? Only over Christmas FW dropped a whole bunch of models including things ilke magma dragons, warpfire dragons, warprats etc... - ergo quite a few things that were actually quite "new" in the range or at least weren't so old they were in any way outdated.

Wonder if the discontinuing of the shoulder pads is because they will shift production over to plastic soon. When will the production facility be completed? Do we have a date or have they said a timeline ever?

Since they had made the two Heresy era box sets maybe they are getting ready to release another and have pad packs. That would be great.

AOS. Could be similar if they could release some of those beasts for Warcry in plastic. I know a bunch were sculpted the old fashioned way, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t scan or resculpt the models digitally.

Aren't the Indexes available digitally, if then no reason to panic.

They did an article on this.

The Warhammer 40,000 Studio – those industrious people behind rulebooks, codexes and expansions like the Psychic Awakening books – are hard at work on a new series of tomes that will cover the range of Warhammer 40,000 miniatures Forge World produce. These books will include updated datasheets and army rules that give these glorious models abilities and benefits that are comparable to the rest of the forces in the game.

They also included a photo mockup:

It doesn't look like there will be a background element, sadly.

I'm not sure for that is a mock-up. It look like the current Index, which makes sense given where the image is in the article.

I'm not quite sure we are getting new indexes given the way the article is written. I may be a bit more than an Index but also a bit less than a Codex, if that makes any sense.

Pretty sure the indices don't have a bit of the front+back covers showing out like that.

The reason I said it's a mock-up is that it looks like they took existing Index photos and copy/pasted it over one of their hardcover books.

Yeah the mock-up is a hardback, although what exactly that means for this is anyone's guess. Maybe were getting updated reprints of the old campaign books, maybe were getting new campaigns, maybe they're just a hardback index with some extra rules thrown in, no telling. Wish we knew more about when these will release

While no background done for Badab again sucks, rules are more important first and foremost. It makes me wonder how much effort they're gonna put into Badab stuff. I sincerely doubt they'll give a bunch of extra Strats for each Chapter.

As long as Carcharodons, Minotaurs, and Raptors get some decent love I'll be content. I hope Marines Errant get some neat rules as well. I made an Anton with a Shotgun and Rapier I wanna bust out at some point.

Ah I missed that one. I was just going by the LVO reveal article. But even so, why describe them as a "new series of tomes" if they are just revised index's? Maybe its GW marketing speak, but I'll hold out hope for something more(yeah, yeah I know hope is the first step on the road to.... ect ect ).

I would assume that it's because they would include updated rules for things like Raptors, Minotaurs, and the like.

Supposedly someone at LVO was told Corsairs would make a comeback in the Xenos one, "but not necessarily the models".

If we get new rules for Carcharadons I may have to start an army of them.

Then I could have two armies descended from the sons of Nostromo.

Raven Guard, actually.

I love that Tyberos model too. No bling or anything and still looks imposing. I don't use it of course because Terminator proportions are bad. I just use a Mk3 dude with an Eviscerator on a 40mm for Tyberos or Typhus of Death Guard if I'm doing a Zombie list.

Chimeric geneseed actually.

Night Lords and Raven Guard (actually Ashen Claws, the Raven Guard too brutal for Corax's emo backside). And agree on Tyberos. Love that model.
