Evening all,

Quick question regarding Space Marine Successor chapter rules found in the codex, specifically for my use Ultramarines.

So its my understanding, if every detachment is the Ultrmarine Successor, then I can pick 2 of the chapter tactics out of the options, stealthy/ long range, whirlwind etc.

You get access to all stratagems from Ultramarine and Space Marine codex, and Relics from the Base Space Marine Codex (but stratagem can unlock the ultramarine specific relics also). Also gain access to Ultramarine and Space Marine Book psychic powers/warlord traits.

Downsides are no named characters?

Anything else I am missing?, is that about right?

Cheers

Looks correct to me.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

You got it. Just can't bring the special characters. Everything else you can use but limmited to just 1 Ultras relic (I'd recommend the relic banner for +1 attack aura.)
Compared to calgar and the -2 CP chapter master upgrade. It is a 4 CP swing. However you basically go from having no chapter tactic to having 2 of them. For overall power - It is a no brainier choice. Successors are so much better than pure Ultras.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

ok and in terms of scions of the guillerman rule and also the fall back and shoot Ultramrine chapter tactic, they keep and gain access to these also?

You keep Scions of Guilliman, but your Successor Chapter's Chapter Tactics replace the Ultramarines Chapter Tactics, you won't get those.

On paper it sure looks that way, but the "walk out of melee and still shoot" trait is unique to the base UM trait. UMs have a strat that replicates it but it's pricey and obviously you can only use it on a single unit. Someone who knows what they're doing can pile into several units to lock them up without risking overwatch, and then being able to back out and still shoot can make all the difference in the world.

It's not as much of a no-brainer as it looks is all I'm saying.
