Subject: Horizon Wars: Zero Dark - N&R Thread - Last update 19 May 2021
Starting from 10am US Central Time tomorrow, 20th May 2021, Horizon Wars: Zero Dark (digital edition) will be 40% OFF for 24 hours.
From the author of Horizon Wars (and long-time Dakkanaut) Robey Jenkins comes Horizon Wars: Zero Dark: a generic hard SF/near future/ultramodern skirmish miniatures wargame with solo, co-operative and player-vs-player mechanics embedded in the core rules. Players lead a small team of custom-designed heroes against the Red Force and - in the PvP game - against their opponent. The game has an innovative dice mechanic based on a handful of d12s, and a simply yet challenging artificial intelligence system to control enemy forces based on the flip of a deck of normal playing cards.

I persuaded some friends to help me take the PvP mode of the game for a spin (I've almost exclusively tested it with me playing both sides, so this was an important check on the rules!), and one of them blogged his experience.
I was also strangely interested in hearing that your board had drawers underneath to store stuff. Unlike you, I put my board on top of shelving units and then put rubbermaids and tackles boxes full of minis and terrain underneath. Drawers sound much easier and nicer.

Yeah, I found a three-drawer pillar and bought four of them, so each one is one leg of the table. There's more storage between the legs, but it's mostly my event kit.
The latest and last beta version of the rules will be going live for my patrons at 0900 tomorrow morning at http://patreon.com/precinctomega
We're still on track for publications on 29th March, but a few tricky bumps to negotiate between now and then! Fingers crossed!
Just FYI, folks, the final beta version of the rules hit the Patreon page this week.
There will be no further beta updates. Any changes I make to this document will appear only in the finished rules.
What this means is that people have a chance to get their hands on the preview rules for just $2. Once you back the campaign, you can cancel your patronage at any time after the first month.
Obviously, I will try to tempt folx to stick around with fresh and juicy new material, but there's no obligation. So if you wanted to get your hands of the preview beta rules for Zero Dark, this is the best time to get in. The rule are more complete, more nearly-finished and cheaper than they've ever been!
Don't know how I'm just now taking notice of this, but this sounds like an incredible game for me to use to play with my younger son (11) where we can be on the same team against the game. Definitely looking forward to checking this out!

I would think it would be great for kids from that sort of age, particularly with an adult to help them with the trickier bits. But the nice thing with a solo or co-op game is that you can fudge anything a bit if you and your team mates agree.
As for why you're just noticing it... I don't have much of a marketing budget.
In response to the current situation and requests, I've put together a condensed (but complete) one-shot mission with eight heroes to choose from and all the rules you need to give Zero Dark a try for yourselves:
Whether you downloaded either the main rules or the Training Run condensed rules, I've got a little bank holiday present for you, in partnership with Tabletop Games UK, because together we've released an exclusive extra solo mission, The Corvid Infection.
Thank to the help of my Patreon supporters, I have used my new graphics assets to update the first HTP video with a new, better version that isn't burdened with my awful voiceover talents.
Also, I'm now doing a general podcast about news and issues in the wargames industry. TRIGGER WARNING: it's very lefty liberal and sometimes touches upon mature themes.
New How to Play video is up. This is a re-do of my original tutorial on basic shooting and evidence of my growing collection of special effects and understanding of how to use them.
A quick bump on the thread to let folks know that, from 10 am US Central Time, tomorrow, 20th May 2021, Horizon Wars: Zero Dark (digital edition) will be at 40% off for 24 hours.
I don't plan to make a habit of this, so get it while it's hot:
