How are Mcfarlane figures these days? I haven't bought anything from them since there Halo Reach lines, and they did not impress me(parts snapped easily, accessories didn't fit properly and the figures gave off a really odd smell).

I wouldn't expect a big reveal like that for a small preview like the Toy Fair. We probably won't see much for 40K or AoS at GAMA so we'll have to wait for AdeptiCon if he's not been released before that.

Wow, it's nothing. Some more actionmens for 40k, I guess SM fans will have something to hotglue.

A warband for Underworlds, which is fine, and then just a bunch of throw-away boardgames only available at US retailers as usual.

I'm interested to see what that looks like. If its like blitz bowl Necro-narco Manager... har har... I would think the straight forward thing would be either a board like the inside of the Underhive set box for something that straight into the action... or a bunch of little 3x3 tiles you can use to build an approximation of the ZM tiles. I think the second one would do better to capture the feel. The stat lines will probably get traded out for 3 or 4 stats that are more straight forward to what you need to roll. I think what GW does for the miniatures in it will be really interesting to see. Its hard to imagine them dropping in any of the gang sprues with all their different tiny little bits into something thats really casual and entry level. So either its gonna be new instances of a gangs models as plug and play... or I could see them reusing, maybe on a new sprue layout, the Genestealer Cultists and Chaos Cultists from the different instances of those get push together models. If they wanted to do something with more immediate appeal to established Necromunda players, they could do a sprue of some distinct bounty hunters and hired guns and make it more of mini-game built around bounty hunting and escaping rather than trying to do full blown gang warfare with fewer and simpler models.

This is a US toy trade show... so it shouldn't be a surprise that they're presenting to that specific audience. Believe or not there are a bunch of people that enjoy those boardgames; for example there are a lot of people that enjoy Blitz Bowl over Blood Bowl. GW's main interest in going to this kind of event is broadening the appeal of their products and getting those products into stores that aren't in their traditional sales stream. Barnes and Noble or Target buy one of these games to sell in those stores and GW in a single day will have sold 10,000 units of a game to each. That's comparable to the initial global volume of certain sets they have made for their main games and represents less risk since they don't have to worry as much about a product not selling well enough.

The fact they come off as a throw away game is because they simply aren't targeted at you or many of use here. Those games ultimately sell to a different customer base so while they might end up being throw aways for anyone already in the hobby, they're the sort of games that can get new people into the hobby. That kind of introductory product to grow gaming communities is something alot of people ask for.

I'm not complaining these repack-games exist, GW can do whatever it wants with it's time. I'm complaining they're wasting my time with announcing those as a BIG NEWS EVENT WOW! thing when it's really not relevant to their core audience at all. No one that regularly goes to their community page will be excited about repacked castigators vs chainrasps in a box. It's the opposite of hype generation.

I was expecting they would be making board games with minis to resemble the kids in their 40K and Age of Sigmar children books. That would, imo, be a great to introduce their settings to a wider audience...but I guess that means investing into making new models. Maybe next year...the nephews/nieces seem to enjoy the books and was excited to see board game with necrons (and the space marines, but they did not make much of an appearance in book 1).

What about the AN and Underworld releases and likely the space marine poseable toys too (remembering how big their marine market is). That IS of interest to their core markets. Sure not ALL of them and sure this isn't a new edition or the start of a wave of every race getting new models; but it is news.

Plus its silly to complain that the marketing is overhyping when all they say is "BIG NEWS" and when they've done it (and when most companies have done it) for years and years. I think if you get over-excited then its on the individual.

Hmm, I too was under the impression that Ghaz was supposed to be unveiled with this announcement. I'm sure the last Makari post had some suggestion of it.

Think of it this way, this trade show is a big advertisement to retailers. Those representatives of those companies will go online and search for whatever GW"s putting out to gauge how important it is to GW, whether GW does anything to promote these. IF GW does nothing and doesn't show these things off these companies are less likely to get excited and buy significant volumes of these products. Again this is news because its related to our hobby but we aren't the main target.

Surprised that we got an Underworlds and a Imperalis preview, that’s kind of cool.

But holy cow! Blitz Bowl season 2! Count me in! Here’s hoping for some more teams and maybe some sort of basic league play. Blitz Bowl is a fantastic game and it’s awesome to see it get some support.

Yep, which already have rules. The original game came with team cards for 6 or 7 other teams too, so I’m hoping we have some rules in the game for other teams without them (Lizardmen, Wood Elves, etc.).

I hope that them saying that space marines won’t be the sole available figures means we actually will get to see some interesting action figures from other factions, like a guardsman or a Necron...

... and not a stormcast.

Although I doubt I'll purchase any of these, that sentence was indeed one of the more interesting bits in the reveal - yet another Space Marine [something] is hardly inspired, but whatever else they consider to be worthwhile could indicate future directions of all the other licensed products (the Bandai large kit and chibis, etcetera).

No real expectations for reveals beyond that, which looks to have been for the best. Guess the boardgames with recycled minis could occasionally be a good source for them; wonder how many of them actually are sold to people who aren't already hobbyists.

I am in the same boat.. have original Blitz Bowl and managed to trade for all the teams off an on.. not really interested in rebuying a starter set. Would have to be great astounding etc for that to happen

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

Could be like the Wurmspat preview at LVO, where they were announced as going on pre-order the following weekend. Maybe these two items will be released before GAMA?

I remember playing a game very similar to that, except it was dwarfs defending themselves from daemons I think.

Might just be a reskin of that game?

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

You have to wonder why GW hasn't yet made a deal with Lego to release their franchise.
I would love to buy some 40K sets of Marines etc.
Fingers crossed that will happen eventually.

Lego has Star Wars and Disney and currently the largest toy maker in the world. They also have (an increasingly eroded but still there) ethos against violent toys. So they don't need or want GW.

Various Not-Legos like Mega Blocks or a seemingly infinite number of Chinese makers whoever, well they're not wiating for a GW license.

Yeah, seen them. They look crap tbh. I do not want some cheap old dodgy Chinese fakes.
Besides I think that Lego could easily make GW models look 'acceptable' for most, especially children. Also stuff from Star Wars, Marvel or DC isn't necessary so 'innocent'
