When were the Kasrkin models and/or data sheets first introduced? I want to believe it was a campaign supplement of some kind, but from what edition if so?

They were released in 3rd edition for the 13th Black Crusade world wide campaign.
They got the first rules in the campaign codex along with Lost & Damned and the 13th Space Wolve company (Wulfen)

I think Kasrkin have been around for some time. They were in the BFG Armada book from 1999(?) and the current models are from 4th edition, around 2004ish.

Was the campaign codex just called 13th Black Crusade?

"Eye of Terror" was the campaign book, and it had Cadians, but not sure if it had rules for Kasrkins.

It was called Eye of Terror.
See the link for a picture:

I'm like 101% sure it had rules for Kasrkin, as they got released together with the plastic Cadians at the same time.
The campaign codex had rules for Cadia, Lost & Damned, 13th Company and Ulthwe Strikeforces.
Rules wise they were mostly the same as regular IG Storm Troopers.
Still got the dex at home <3

You can see them all here.

I would love them to come back as 6 point troop choices, stats as Scions minus the deepstrike, Cadian regimental trait.

Yeah I'm reading the entry. They were Stormtroopers, but in the Troop slot. They also had 5-10 instead of a fixed 10, and couldn't use deep strike or infiltration. They were also 2 points cheaper.

Codex: Eye of Terror came out almost immediately before the second 3rd edition IG codex, often called 3.5 edition codex. The cadian list in that codex included rules for both Elite Stormtroopers (same as the IG list) and Troop kasrkin, which functioned as more battle line heavy infantry.
I'd guess the models came out around that time, but they were definitely out by the IG book a few months later.

To clarify: there was only a single Stormtroopers entry in the 3.5 codex, no specific rules for Kasrkin. The Kasrkin models were used to represent Stormtroopers, as the pewter Mark Bedford Stormtroopers were discontinued with the release of the Cadian revamp.
However, if you took the Grenadiers army doctrine, you could take Stormtroopers (without deep strike) as Troops. Cadians had Grenadiers as one of their official doctrines.

The Eye of Terror campaign book was one of the best things GW ever made.
Also, I'm tickled over the idea that we have to talk about 40k errata like it was ancient history. Theres a struggle to remember some old lore or a forgotten miniature. Then we slowly piece the story together like an episode of Bones or something.

It helps to have a massive collection of old edition books. Like a historical library.

I believe they were Juan Diaz sculpts. For a time he looked like he was going to take the torch from Jes Goodwin, but he left to start avatar's of war iirc

My pipe dream for Psychic Awakening was for Kasrkin to come back. I have around a dozen of the metal models and 10 Kitbash, with another 32 on the way.
While I'd prefer to get actual unit rules, a strategem would be enough, something like "Select one Militarum Tempestus squad that is part of a <Cadian> detachment. That unit loses <Tempestus Regiment> and Aerial Drop; that unit then gains the <Cadian> keyword."

DKoK Grenadiers look better anyway , and they're actually useable as... Grenadiers.
I guess someone could proxy a Krieg list using Kasrkins?

Totally! There was a Dakka thread I jumped into a while back about the Primaris one-up reversing Chapter flaws, like the Black Rage. I mentioned the Imperial Fists flaw where they fall permanently unconscious because of a sus-an Membrane malfunction. Then the internet stopped and looked at me like a grew a 3rd head.
Everyone said I was wrong, and stupid and microwaving popcorn too long. So I had to start a thread in Backgrounds to ask if anyone remembered a story where IFs had a Phalanx vault where they stored all the IFs that fell to their flaw. Eventually one other middle aged guy remembered a book of short stories that was 25 years old, with that story in it.
Apparently all that fluff got retconned out. The Narcolepsy flaw was reassigned to a IF successor chapter. For the IFs it was down graded to them not having a sus-an Membrane. If it hadn't been for a group of like minded Xers with a vault of old books (aka their parents garage) I'd just be crazy. Or worse, wrong on the internet.
