I like the sheer randomness of this thread - I found some more to add to the party..
Apologies for the lack of paint and light and macro lens...

Ahh, the 2nd ed starter “I <3 my bolter” marines. Classic, and the back bone of many a force back in the day.

I had two squads of them filling slots in my battle company for years. Just a couple weekends ago the last was retired to make room on the shelf. They served well and with pride for years.

My son, while born well after they went OOP, inherited a couple squads from his uncle. This is his first painted mini:

Bolter huggers! Pretty sure I don't have any, anymore. I think they were purged with the majority of my RTB01s and other old Marines. Still, they bring back memories.

@Nevelon
When you say you've retired them from your shelves, what do you mean exactly? Do you box them up or do you throw them away?

Apologies for not posting the Inquisitor model as mentioned earlier. Ive been working a lot of OT this last week but Ill get pics up tonight.

I sure it's not the latter as there are many here, myself included, who would be more than willing to take them in. Especially if it means saving them from a landfill.

Heh. I don’t throw anything away.

Classically I keep my battle company on it’s own space. Other supporting units and lone models live on other shelves. But even those were getting cluttered, so some stuff got bumped further down.

Right now they are in the drawer of the china cabinet that houses my spare bits. Hanging out in the back, but standing respectfully on a movement tray, not just tossed back there.

At some point I need to get more storage space. My plans to head to Ikea and grab some nice glass displays was canceled with the rest of my summer plans. I suspect that when I move my year to date progress shelf onto the main shelves, some of the stemware holding fast on the upper shelf is going to be displaced.

All my OOP models, some of these are older than others in terms of painting.

Heh, even more than you think, I built it pre- Deathwatch becoming a faction and I was using them as Imperial Fists to benefit from the bolt weapon bonuses.

lmao That's fabulous! Would have loved to see that in battle as long as it was on my side. Considering I play IG and CSM, about a 50/50 chance.

Nice collection, Sockwithaticket. I don't think I've seen that dark elf before.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Here is the Inquisitor in Terminator armor I finished.

I am currently working on two OOP acolytes to join him at his side. I'll be sure to post the results when they are done.

Edit: My only real issue I have with this model is that I didn't drill a large enough hole for the barrel bore.
I certainly will not be making that same mistake again!

You're making me realise that I turned the guy into a self portrait... I am also very pale, have black hair and don't smile very well. Yet to get a bionic eye, though my left could also do with that sort of replacement.

Cheers. He was a variant of this chap.

Didn't make the transition from metal to finecast for whatever reason.

lol Sorry, it is a great paint job though. Not your fault the sculptor gave him the Inquisition snarl/grin, you merely painted it. As for that bionic, well maybe some day soonish? I don't need full bionic replacements, but I would love some Adam Jensen shades with magnification capability.

I love seeing the old metal variants. Always fun to play "Spot the differences" with well painted pieces.

This is very true. Purple being a long time favorite color of mine I love that blade and may emulate it's colors on some of my own power weapons.

Frag: an underappreciated mini, both then and now.

I have an unpainted one of these in my stash somewhere. Although he has a pointy power fist left hand instead. Also have some retinue types to go with him. One day they might even get painted.

Just finished basing and taking formal lightbox pics of my Biovores and Spore Mines.

Extra tentacles from GS on the mines, as 1/3 of them had snapped of their bases, so needed mroe support.

Cheers, both. I did similar on the non-GW Inquisitor model, but the angle doesn't show it all that well,

Also with you might be interested in these non-OOP models and different colours/weapons for a sense of the technique/effect:

Very nice! I love the black blade with various color highlighting. As much as I like purple, I have to say that blue really pops.

I have an old Commissar model I bought years ago with a green power sword. I think I posted a picture or two of him here, but I'm not sure. I'll check and if not then I'll be sure to share him. Edit: Yup, they're there. Just a few pages or so back. They look terrible from the sample size in the post. Still don't know why they look like they're covered in reflective material since they don't look like that in person.
