Been starting reading the rulebook, and so far it looks quite interesting to me. Feels like a game that will be fun to play.

Glad to see this now, it helps shake the idea that MMF is only for stuff at the end of its life.

It is an interesing development for sure, and having he rulebook for free will make it more widely available on release of the plastics.

I'd love to see what are they going to lead with, given I will have all the stls from the original campaign. Ideally some more poses for the plastic models to give it more variety, for starters.

That removes my second biggest gripe about Mantic. The changing of materials with each new release.

One of the complaints I have read about the rulebook is the lack of unit photos or even art next to each entry, which makes identification difficult especially for newcomers . Apparently the 'full' rulebook will include this, although you would like to think they will update the downloadable free one eventually.

I noticed that, and yes, they need to put unit pics in there.

OTOH, the rules part of the game is pretty clearly written and seems to be easy to reference.

Good on Mantic for NOT requiring folks to make an account, put a zero dollar item in a cart, check out and then have the pdf emailed to you.

EDIT: Well, at least they didn’t require it for the actual rules.

They DO require that exact type of nonsense to get the fluff pdf. At least it’s the lesser important stuff as far as gameplay goes.

No, no, the book has a setting background chapter... I mean unit background. What they are, other than a name and stats.

Basing is covered in the set descriptions mostly EWP base (Epic Warpath Base - standard type with inserts for 4 or 2 minis), 25mm bases for vehicles and 80mm for Super Heavies - Asterians get 40mm bases for the 6 Chira/Chroma that seems to be the only difference

Hoping all the bases are the same material and no more MDF bases.

I bet the big ones are mdf

I'm printing my own for all units so I can have the same magnet holes I always use

Listings have anything bigger than 25mm (including 40mm) as mdf

I would guess that fan created STLs will show up quickly enough...

I have a stack of 40mm Citadel style based already. I hope they're not too tall.

MDF is horrible to work with.

A few of the retailers (UK at least, Wayland and Firestorm) have 20% discount, so around £90 for the starter and £56 for army boxes.

Interesting Wayland have end of August for release, Firestorm first week of September.

August 31st is a Sunday, so I guess it depends on if they count the week as starting on a Sunday or a Monday (Sep 1st)

Looked thru the boxes with the army list and so far all of them have >2000 points in models
Depending on what you are going for the core box + super heavy is going to make 2500 points, 115€ MSRP
Not that bad, also the 2 player set comes with a good discount and not just free rules (270€ MSRP for the full game with the 2 player set and XL terrain)
