Probably just corporate talk though.

You ever been in one of these seminars? I have, at Games Day Baltimore waaaaaaaaaaaaay back when the Eye of Terror book had just dropped.

Back then, even a quarter of this stuff would have been Big News. Understand that this has been one preview broken up into 4 parts from what GW said.

Sure would be nice to get some news on that Blood Bowl 3 video game that was supposedly due out this year.

I would. Killteam is the "zero investment" game from GW, where they make rules and almost nothing else. All the minis already exist, so the outlay for additional products is very small. The only exception to this seems to have bee Rogue Trader.

So no Aeronautica at this preview still?

I'm now actually starting to believe what a GW friend told me, they would not preview any more Aeronautica Tau until later on, until just before the shops re-open. Skies of Fire and associated kits, dice etc are all ready made, ready waiting for release. It may not just be a matter of stores re-opening though as the distribution may be delayed too.

Was hoping for some Titanicus or Aeronautica, but on the other hand, we know where those are headed in the near term already.

Still, ought to be fun.

Why would I want that when I could make My Guys? They already kind of did that with the Starstriders and Gellerpox, too.

Kill Team is dead. I’m pretty sure we will be getting roughly 6 WD articles a year and an annual and that’s it for support. Planning on selling my stuff off after Covid mellows out of no second edition or major change is announced , I’m all for continuing on with dead games (Mordheim), but KT isn’t even that fun. GW really missed a huge opportunity with it.

Oi every preview doesnjt have to have multiple new editions and hundred(s) new models to be big unlike for some people in dakkadakka

Killteam isn't a game its an introduction mode that has been in the core rules for decades, but which now has its own product placements. The key is that its designed to lead you into 40K or provide a side game to it. GW doesn't seem keen to create it into its own game on its own. Even Warcry has limits - almost all the unique models for it belong to one single faction in AoS (slaves to darkness); whilst its terrain packs are just regular AoS terrain with the deployment cards.

Again its a very low investment game; the only twist is that the chaos warbands all fit into one army; meanwhile all the other races in the game have to buy generic regular infantry boxes to get involved- although GW has slowly started releasing some Warcry specific boxes with varied sculpts for some armies (potentially they might expand on this, though it would require new castings since warbands from other races use models from multiple infantry sets).

As for previews GW is in a tricky spot. On the one hand they want our attention to market and preview stuff; on the other their release schedual is shot to bits and they've NO fixed re-activation date; with the best current estimations being perhaps 3weeks (at best) to months to even a year floating around as the reactivation date. Ergo they've no idea when they are going to be able to even produce current stock let alone start bulking up for releases. And that's before we touch on international trade which is also, shot to bits. Both at the global distribution level and at the internal level within countries. Mail services are overloaded even if they are still working and reactivation won't mean that mail services will resume to full original capacity overnight.

GW also doesn't want to promise so much that they overpromise with things that might take too long to bring to market.

Getting more Blood Bowl than just the tree is a winner though.

Hoping for a full team, perhaps Vampires or so

This kind of no-content hit-post might make more sense if we didn't now know that the "massive biggest ever" previews are actually a single preview split into 4.

Now we do, so it makes no sense to complain about the small scale of these previews, and even less sense to attack those who complained before that was known.

I pretty exited to see some actual sons of behemat. The art they teased with has a gargant as large as a warlord titan, surely, it wont come to that, right?

Would be cool to get a big piece of scenery representing the "fallen giant template" from back in the day.

Eh, with those kinds of games I'm never interested because it's basically just a graphical overhaul that inevitably comes with fewer teams than the original+expansion packs.

I looked at BB2 and was like...well with BB2 I get 6 teams, and with Chaos Edition original BB I have like 15...

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I agree that their intention was primarily to great a "low barrier" system to nudge people into 40K rather than a system in its own right, but I think they went about that poorly, because KT certainly gives the impression of a system that should be considered in its own right given all the extra mechanics and doodads.

Honestly I just don't understand why GW won't simply adopt something along the lines of the Strike Force rules from the Heresy, which are essentially just new rules for army selection, half a page of extra rules about models acting individually and forming ad-hoc squads, and a loose campaign system with a few scenarios, otherwise using the base rules of the game. Maybe they think 8th is simply too "killy" to go down to such small game sizes without a ton of extra stuff and rebalancing(it's arguably true, afterall)? Maybe it's just Studio ego? Who knows, but regardless they need to "pick a lane"; if they produce a system that has loads of unique mechanics and addons and card packs and all that guff, people expect it to be a properly supported system in its own right because it requires them to invest time & money, and if they want something that's only intended to give people something to do with their first purchases while the 40K army GW actually wants them to buy gets built, it needs to be something simple and low-investment. The problem with KT is they tried to double-dip.

I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

The first online preview was rather lame because all the new models were leaked in advance. Second one was much more enjoyable because I avoided Dakka for 48 hours before the event. See you tomorrow after the show!
