For example, how would he fare against Girlyman?

He makes a short appearance in "devourer", but there is not mention of his combat abilites, and I dont think we have any info on that for now. It seems that we wont have to wait long to find out though.

Wow. All this time and there's not even a single instance of him kicking ass?

I remember Dante getting an 'I will effortlessly wreck you and never think about it again ' vibe from him during that one scene everyone wants to forget.

We know pretty much nothing about how powerful the Silent King is in 40k terms. I suspect he'll probably be pretty powerful once his rules come out in a few weeks. I'd prefer something a bit more nuanced than just another beatstick of a character though.

I hope he'll be at least demon primarch tier as far as his rules are concerned if not above.
Given he was one of the first if not the first going through the biotransfer he should have the most advanced body of the necron race. He probably also has access to some extremely powerful tech.
So in theory he should be one of the most powerful singular beings roaming the galaxy right now.

Just gonna leave this thread I made a while ago here where I theory built him in proposed rules.

https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/768641.page

That being said, he has top-tier tech, and the finest body available to anyone of his race. If they're true to lore, he'll be tougher than any current Necron character.

Seconding this. I'd much rather he be a leader than a beatstick.

Not to say he shouldn't be badass-but his focus should be on making the ARMY better, not dueling other dudes.

Yes please. I'm tired of the 'every leader must be a beatstick' thing. You know why I liked Sicarius? His support abilities were awesome and he kinda sucked in CC.

Agreed. I feel like he needs to be done justice.

They can't do it, but really given how old he is and the knowledge and tech at his disposal he'd be closer to the Emperor....this dude was around before human beings ever existed.

I don't necessarily agree with that. His power came from the fact he was the undisputed master of innumerable hordes of undying warriors. He should be a cut above the average Overlord physically but I don't think he needs to be able to solo Primarchs. A reasonably tough support character with a serious array of buff abilities would be just as fitting.

Depends. Does he have a way to come back from the dead? If so, then he'll be just like Skarbrand, the Hive Tyrant, or Avatar of Kaine. He'll get beaten by every character ever just to prove how powerful that particular character is.

Well apparently that's happening to mortal characters now.

If there's something that introducing Primaris marines should never have done, is give a weird "2nd round" immortality piece to downed firstborn marines. They hype up how crossing the Rubicon Primaris is dangerous, yet we pretty much only hear the successes and bizarrely, with Ragnar's case and others like Lazarus', they are wounded to the point where interring them in a dreadnought won't work, yet being turned into a Primaris somehow still works to save their life? It undermines existing fluff like Dreadnoughts into being pretty much being either pre-Primaris, or for Primaris marines that have been felled in combat at this point, since going through the Primaris procedure is pretty much better in everyway than becoming a dreadnought.

Are you talking about Ghaz? I guess technically he didn't die because orks can survive for a short time without their heads, but yeah, gw will use any excuse to "Worf" a non-imperial character nowadays to give an imperial character a push.

Ghaz I think technically counts as well, but I think he might have been referring to all the Primarized marines that have made the transition as a result from being near-death.

Yes, I see that now after reading your previous post. So I guess the only faction for whom death matters is now the guard? Tau maybe?

Also wondering how much of ghaz is actually Ghaz. In the saga book it was described how his retinue of nobs found his head and took it to Grotsnik, then were cut apart by buzzsaws for other uses.

As for the Silent king. It would be interesting if they instead of making him killy made him very supporty and practically unkillable. Like, having one single incredible attack (like lychguard are meant to have) but behind it sits buffs on tier with Guilliman and durability shenanigans like a mix of Ghaz and old Trazyn the Infinite, with the ability to pass on wounds or take living metal from others or something like that. It would make him stand out as a character in the current 40K ruleset and give that regal emperor feel he should have as a Tomb King archetype.

My bad on confusing the two, but yeah, overall not a fan with them doing it to Orks either, since death is already such an impermanent thing in 40k already, it's not like we need less impactful events between named characters.

Pretty much seems like it. Tau space pope is perma-dead, with just a hologram stand-in at the moment. Kell is perma dead and Creed has been pokeballed. It hasn't been clear whether other IG characters like Straken are still alive currently, I think so far the only guard character that seems to have come back to life is Lieutenant Kage from the Last Chancers in their recent book.

Arguably, GSC are another faction where people also stay dead, if only because their end goal gets the head honchos nommed, or they get assassinated by Imperials.

Its really hard to say how impressive a character is when he first appeared in the background in 2011, and stayed a background character for the last nine years.

Its worth noting that the current codex background says nothing at all about any combat ability, just commands and orders (and being tricked by the Deceiver). The positions of Triarchs and even the Silent Kingship was hereditary, so there is no indication that he was particularly skilled or qualified- just that he was from the dynasty currently on top of the pile (which apparently changed often enough due to untimely deaths from their terrible lifespans)

GW basically has a blank slate with this one. He could be a penitent emo, a calculating strategist or an ancient god of war.

Being "better than any other Necron Character" is NOT a high hurdle. Necron can barely fight their way our of a paper bag. If they made him a Toughness 6 Force Commander with a lot of support abilities it would be about my expectations.
