My bet is a necron equivalent to a chaplain. I bet they are redesigning crypteks to work the exact same way so a 3+ start of round for an aura and those little helpers would be like dark apostles adding to the roll or aura range etc. Total speculation, but GW loves recycling mechanics.
That guy and his little friends remind me strongly of this guy and his little friends…
Doubt that means a great deal though.

After all this is anyone actually interested in any of the PA stuff?
I feel like eight the pandemic the last months of releases they have previewed are just a wash. Should just move on with whatever is the latest

As an outsider to mainstream GW stuff, its just the same stuff all over again. A flurry of releases, people spend cash. And then GW releases a new edition or game which people lap up.
GW are the Apple of wargaming. In building obsolescence in their product and people just buy and lap up whatever they produce almost without question.

I am hoping you can select powers for crypteks again and they are pre battle round like chaplain/apostle powers I also hope they expand the normal lords. Looks like one has a Gaus Blaster so maybe they can get ranged weapons, the other guy in that pic appears to have a different looking glaive and dare I say a Tachion arrow on his wrist. Would be sweet if those reappeared. Would just need mind shacle scarabs lol.
I think the strange spindle bots that float will either be terrain (less likely) or some sort of support unit, like a canoptek version of a Cronos from dark eldar. Something that helps buff stuff around it, maybe he triggers the repairs. I don't see any guns on those.

If it's in the starter (a fairly safe assumption) I think it has to be a general purpose unit. Characters come in three varieties, beatsticks, Aura bots, and casters, if I were to guess a roll by looking at him I'd say aura bit, so maybe the little guys help him spread an aura, kind of like the nighthaunt formation with the spirit torment and the chain ghast? Also here is hoping we don't get dealt like the nighthaunt got, cause they got a raw deal.

So I notice sisters of battle are one of the featured factions. makes me wonder if they are indeed doing two boxes. one with marines the others with sisters.

"Battles of any size!"...wondering how they've implemented that. Could they be taking elements from Kill Team and Apocalypse, or is it just a lazy claim? Or could Kill Team and Apocalypse have been temporary tyre-patches until this 40K edition was released, and be retired quietly?
Being compatible with the current codices and the PA series was something I was hoping for but didn't see happening. Awesome.
The book. Sigh. I so hope they do an affordable slim-paperback with minimum fluff. Hardbacks are for sitting by the fireplace wearing a smoking jacket, not for the tabletop with Jeans and T-Shirt - leave that swanky stuff to the Black Library already!
Great to see a Xenos race get so much love. A step in the right direction, for sure. While I don't play neither marines nor necrons, I would definitely be up for that version of First Strike. If it contains the new Necrons and those Assault Primaris, it would at least be a killer set for Kill Team players.
Path to Glory comes to mind regarding Crusade. I certainly hope that is the case.

Or perhaps they are just featuring Sisters in a lot of promotional material because they took a big gamble on bringing the whole army back in new plastic in one massive release wave (yes it was split, but only a few months apart- investment cost wise its one big block and all the same financial year). So they are featuring them heavily in the marketing to basically help ensure high sales not just to existing Sisters fans, but to new people too.
They don't need to make anything special for them, just feature them lots to get loads of attention on an army that had until very recently, been basically ignored for a long while. Bolstering the marketing basically costs them nothing (the CGI intro cost, but it could have been a marine or a guardsman in the same time slot as the sister of battle); but can result in a big boost to sales.

Since the PA books are fully 9th compatible and both my Daemons and my Custodes are still hoping for a decent boost; yes

might also be a diversity thing, sisters being used as the "poster girls" beside marines as "poster boys"

Its interesting to note that the PA rules were written with the new edition in mind. The new edition might enhance those rules...

Thats what they said but likely they will both get new Codexes in due course - well Codex (hopefully just one) and also Supplements for Marines. Especailly since we have new units that are in neither dex in PA and the new edition.

Looks like it's a ten man intercessor squad. If you could deliver those suckers into combat they'd be pretty good. with 40 attacks on the charge, and 2 wounds each, if 9th makes disengaging from combat harder they'd be a nasty tarpit

If GW was smart they'd put out a dark angels, space wolves or blood angels codex to accompany the new stuff (or maybe death watch? could explain their crappy WD release) and let Marines who want a book use that. the various non-vanilla chapters have had to do that, as someone whose primary army is a vanilla one I'd be fine with having vanilla have that for a bit

That was one of my first thoughts in regards to DW when the WD was announced. Even more so now with Necrons being confirmed to be 9th's Death Guard analog.

I don't think special Marines get to complain that hard. Not compared to what Xenos and to a lesser extent Chaos get shafted with.

I can't imagine we will be waiting too long for this to hit. It would be foolish to reveal 9th and then carry on releasing 8th edition stuff over a long period (yes, I know it's compatible). People will often prefer to wait and see how their new units synergize with the new rules before dumping a lot of cash into an existing system. GW will need to push out Engine War, War of the Spider and Pariah fairly quickly in order to get the big juicy new release train going.
I think we;ll see 8th wrapped up in June and July, with 9th hitting end of July or early August at latest. I cannot see them holding out til October for this after releasing the teaser now.

My hope is supplements not Codexes. But thats a different thread.
It would be a surprise to have Sisters sharing the main box set but after the events of the last few years can't rule it out - who would have thought it a couple of years ago!

Because they would have to do the same with the Grey Knights and the Adepta Sororitas.
