When did the switch from 25mm to 32 mm bases occur for tactical marines? I just noticed that all my old ones are on 25mm and all the current boxes come with 32mm. Painting primaries so much that I didn’t notice until now.

I'm not prejudiced, I hate everyone equally

Most tacs back at the end of 7th, but there are still some SM units that are still on 25's, go to GW website for the unit you want ot know and it'll tell you in the description.

There are cheap acrylic and MDF upgrades to turn a 25mm into a 32mm if consistency matters... I feel like in a game of auras there's a slight advantage to a unit having a slightly bigger footprint.

got a link to a few of those? I put together some old ABR Orks to go with the stuff in prophecy of the wolf, and they're on 25mm bases (I'd forgotten how tiny 25mm bases where yikes. 32mm is muuuch better for marines and Orks) so I should proably get some extendersotherwise it'll drive me nuts

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I don't have a vendor to recommend, but a search like this will get you options from hobby companies, eBay, Etsy, and more:
https://www.google.com/search?q=25mm+32mm+adapter+ring&source=lmns&bih=619&biw=1280&rlz=1CAMWDF_enUS853&hl=en&ved=2ahUKEwi7oubauvfpAhVSYM0KHbnFA90Q_AUoAHoECAEQAA

Things to consider: split rings will go around a mini of any size, beveled ones have to slide over a smaller mini from the top to make a seamless fit, and others will slide on from the bottom but leave a gap. Some are little trays the model sits in, and those make the mini slightly taller. Materials include plastic, MDF, acrylic, etc... Shapeways and Thingiverse also have both print-on-demand and print-at-home options for 3D printers.

I ended up just rebasing all my models onto cheap 32mm bases instead of getting base rings.
