Why not having just the single infantry model with his feet on the ground instead of that thing?
Similar issue I have with Triumph of St. K. model: why not having 6 separate SoB infantry models that can only work as a single unit instead of that thing?
You must be fun at parties.
I'm fun at parties, and I agree with him.
40k is a game of plastic toy soldiers. This means that they need to be moved from location to location, and then around tables. Psuedo diorama units are highly questionable from a gameplay stand point, and absolutely unwelcome in practicality.

A lot of people hate these kind of models, probably even the majority.
If I wanted a diorama I'd scratch built it myself. I won't pay 100ish for a model that is a nightmare to handle and not even good looking, considering how silly it is (but I get this is entirely subjective). Even if my army becomes illegal without it.
I forgot who said it, but this hobby has now simply become (even moreso than in the past before I get the inevitable "ackshuuuallly....") a means for people to show off their shinies for social media likes. This is glaringly obvious as GW seems to take zero consideration for transporting these things. All they are is a means for others to advertise GW and practicality for gaming is secondary.
I honestly don't know how someone who doesn't drive (or is quite young) is able to transport these things. Sure, they've got their carry cases but they're going to get to a point where they won't even fit one of these things (or safely, which I doubt many of them do now).

St Katherine is no burden. Having evocative models is great for hobbyists, good for drawing in new people, and fun to use.
I dont hold it against you though. Cant say how fragile itd be, but they're not heavy these days.

Okay, now put it in a GW carry case, not those custom cut ones (with other minis too. Not on its own), have it bounce around in your car or on the bus on the way to the FLGS and see how intact it is after that. Remember you have to do it both ways, there and back.
Then you can see how impractical they are.

St. Katherine isn't the worst model out there, but she's absolutely a problem. As Grim mentioned, it's perfectly reasonable for her to regularly break from the simple process of moving to and from play locations.
Let me put this in perspective.
I got into 40k as a a child of 11 or 12. My carry cases used to be little partitioned tool boxes, vehicles got put into disposable plastic cups lined with news paper. This effectively prevented damage / wear and tear to my models, and also saved hundreds of dollars on cases. These days you could never even imagine doing something like that. Too many gigantic models connected by millimetre thin scenic pieces. If I want a display piece to put in a case and never touch, the last thing I'm going to do is buy some blaise but bland Necron kit for $120.
I really like that he isn't super ornate. He himself is regal, but in a more subtle and elegant way and not as pompous as the emperor would be for example had he a model. Though a crude Form of c'tan necrodermis would have been cool as well.
The throne with the shields is just pimpin.
I'm really happy for all necron players. I think both the silent King and the void dragon shard are homeruns
Slayer-Fan123 wrote: Honestly I am a HUGE fan of the CTan empowering the throne. It's the ultimate trophy in that way. I still wanna know which CTan it is.
Yup, it's a display of power to have a C'tan shard powering his throne. The Necrons have had the C'tan under lock and key for 80 million years, that's some hefty reliability, fiction aside.
As for transport, I'm sure Battlefoam will make a custom case for him, and GW cases had to be carved up to hold even a rhino back in the day. With some hot glue, foamcore and bubblewrap, you can build a custom case for anything with a few bucks.
Also looks very impractical for the table top & transport.
So it'll join the SoB shrine & that giant AoS Bonereaper leader on the list of things I'll skip.

I like the model a lot. The Silent king himself is that perfect blend of being regal, without being too over the top. The throne itself has a lot going on, and I like that it's powered by a C'tan and blackstone.
I don't think transporting this guy is going to be as difficult as people are making it out. I have a Nighthaunt army, and it looks like if you just weigh his base a bit and magnetize him for a metal tray, he should be fine.

I have seen Nagash fall to the ground at the store and shatter in to multiple pices. And the nighaunt player we had at the store got a life long ban for cursing when his models were breaking off the bases.
I have also seen a on of model snap durning transport, even in carry cases. Although I do have to say that our public system is crowded. If you have a car it is easier, but I don't think I could afford a fake ID and a car with the birthday money I got today.
If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

There are a ton of models that if they fall from a tabletop they are going to shatter on the floor. This isn't unique to just Nagash or "Diorama" models.
For that matter, Nagash isn't even that bad. He's significantly more sturdy than he looks.
I'm not sure what your point is with models snapping. That is going to happen to matter what, with old or new models. That's just a peril of moving from place to place.
Well all the ghost thingies broke on him, in multiple places.
The snapping was, if I remember correctly as this is more then 1 year ago, his troops had connections to the bases that were thin and kept snaping off, both durning transport and durning playing. My models are all metal, aside for rhinos and 10 strikes, and non of them ever snaped or lost parts. I think that maybe Draigo came with his shield unglued, when I bought him.
I have no problem with big models, specialy as my army has non, but GW seems to try to force everyone in to having obligatory terrain and gigantic models that cost a lot of money.
I get that they are good for people that are very good at painting , and like to do it. For everyone else they are hassle to finish and on top of it all, if they do get damaged you have to fix them.

Perhaps that isnt an issue with the models, but how they are treated?
I treat mine with the utmost care, because I put work into them, and would rather not see them snap or break. The only time they ever have has been because of someone else's careless actions.

Not only that, its huge footprint makes it also a pain to play it in a table that is terrain heavy. 6 different 32 or even 40mm bases would have been great. But also way cheaper, because no way 6 dudes would cost 85 euro, which is another reason why GW is pushing this kind of diorama miniatures.

Did you mean 60 million years or am i missing like a 20 million year piece of bg?

Yep, yep, everyone else is clearly just tossing their models around, bouncing off walls, and stomping up and down on them. That's exactly it.
Accidents only happen to other people and it can't happen here.
Put me in the camp of not being a huge fan of diorama models. You want to add all that stuff as a “special edition” version of the miniature that I can use as a small display board? Awesome. But as an actual full in-game model I find it cumbersome and silly. On top of that, I find this piece in particular very underwhelming. It’s like, imagine if they finally released an “emperor of mankind” model, but he was essentially identical to Bobby G and just sitting in a regularish looking chair ... meh
I think the King himself is fairly bland and unimpressive, and the diorama around him is just kind of ... black. The whole thing feels very boring to me. Especially when you look at the diorama character for the Bone Reapers in Sigmar - still not a fan of diorama models, but that one looks pretty cool imo. Like someone else said, the Void Dragon would have been a better model for this imo.
Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Did I state that? Or even say accidents dont happen?
My response was more to Karol and his example, not to the overall topic of the Necron models. Specifically about the local with the nighthaunt who constantly break. That sounded like a user issue, not something wrong with the Nighthaunt. Of which I have, and many folk in my area have locally. No one really complains about them breaking even on accident.
Not a fan of the connections on SK, or the side shields/banners, as it just means being more careful with the models. Unless you reinforce it yourself. Could do some additional lightening with wire and putty.

GW is coming down with a bad case of the Warcraftism. A condition where named characters are inexplicably larger than all the other people around them due to their importance to the plot.
Also GW seemed to of learned that fragile parts = repeat sales from customers buying replacement models. That or they are planning on releasing custom foam trays that can carry all these monopose figures.
