I want to know people's opinions on what the best titan-like-thing is either the most competitive or which one is the most fun to play.
For titan-like thing, I mean whatever the big, gun-ridden, mech monstrosity is the top dog of that army
some options just to get into the mindset
gargantuan squiggoth, stompa, ta'unar kx139 supremacy armor, manta (honestly I just want to know if anyone ever actually fielded a manta/ the experience), seraptek heavy construct, acastus knight porphyrion, Phantom, Revenant titan, sokar pattern stormbird, fellblade, mastodon, nid heirophant, nid harridan, nid hierodule, or any of the actual proper titans.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH. |

The Tau'nar is still useable without being an auto-loss, but that's more due to its ability to engage in Drone shenanigans than anything else.

Yep, I remember the first time I played a game with a Titan in it. Me and some of my friends played a big apocalypse game (I think it was 5000 points a side?). One of my friends on the opposing team brought his warhound because several of us had seen it in his display case and wanted to see it in action. I could not believe how underwhelming this 2000pt cool model was on the table top and how quickly it got bracketed. Yes, they have lots of firepower and take a lot of firepower to put down but they are not worth 2000pts. Regular plastic knights and even Guard super heavies out perform them for points cost. You can get four knight crusaders for less than one warhound, and IMO four crusaders are a lot scarier than one warhound.

Honestly, it’s kind of a double edged sword.
Most big kits tend to be from poor to ok ish.
In one sense, it’s bad as they aren’t cheap models so you’d expect them to actually perform decently.
On the slip side though, if they were too good people would simply complain that’s it’s become pay to win, so I honestly don’t think they could improve them too much without harming the game dramatically.
As a tyranid player though, all of my big critters are just essentially underwhelming or useless.
They really have no viable use in game.
Moving to 30k titans become even worse due to the sheer volume of firepower compared to 40k.
Most marine armies stack enough anti tank shooting to wipe titans off the board turn 1-2.
Nice centrepieces for armies, but nothing special game wise.
Good for fun games only sadly.

In 8th the Custodes Orion dropship was actually considered somewhat playable, dropping the troops into assault while hammering screening units and blocking off a significant area of tabletop.

I have fun with my Stompa because it's so random - one turn it won't kill anything, then the next turn it'll make it's points back!

The two times I’ve used my Revenant Titan it has absolutely kicked arse. This was in apocalypse games though, and I doubt it would have a chance in a truly competitive meta.
Like someone said up thread, they can’t make these things too powerful because at the end of the day, if they were fluff powerful they’d just wipe the floor with most normal units in the game.
The game isn’t scaled for Titans, and they are mostly just display models, it’s nice they have rules for freindly games, but making them powerful enough for competitive play would just ramp up the pay to win aspect.

I've used my Seraptek in a few games and it's a ton of fun to use. It's such a large target and not very durable for it's points, so I just charge it straight up the middle.
It actually won me a 2.5k pt game against IH because I ran it up, got it into combat with an unhealthy amount of aggressors, it dies, I roll a 6.
And just like that ~750 pts of Iron Hands dead
|
<Dynasty> ~10500pts
War Coven of the Coruscating Gaze ~3000pts
Thrice-Damned Plague Corps ~3250pts
Admech (TBN) ~3500pts +30k Bots and Ulator

I faced a Warhound in an RTT. It lasted for all of a single round in combat before my Kytan Ravager did 24 damage to it and my Chaos Lord finished it with S14 power fists. The Kytan is 1/4 the points and easily outclassed it. Hitting on 3's wounding on 2's against a Titan is pretty saucey.

The best titan like thing to play is 2 of them but against each other. Titan v titan is epic
Far more balanced, far more fluffy, far more fun

I've run my Gargantuan Squiggoth a couple of times, it is a stupidly expensive troop transport and that is about it. It can only take heavy weapons, hitting on 5+ at best and in melee it is...okay.
Compared to some of the other super heavies it is an absolute joke for how much it cost and what it does, but I found that if my opponent doesn't play a titan against it and just play like it is a normal unit the games aren't that bad. It is not super hard to kill, doesn't hit that hard and looks awesome.

I fought against Warhounds and Reavers multiple times during 6th and 7th edition. In only one game did one make it past turn two, and I won it anyways by capping objectives.
