And did these Warriors just decide to put on T-shirts after being repaired? I know that I could be wrong, but how can you say you can't imagine anyone looking at that image and thinking "Flayed Ones"?

This one, I believe.
A few decrepit warriors shambling around being repaired is what I see. 'New flayed ones' is a stretch.
There appears to be some sort of "clothing" hanging off them though.

Unexpectedly modest necron warriors, then.

Their arms and hands, too! Which uh... rather neatly explains the lack of flayers.

If they are flayed ones, they've forgotten their flayed skin body coverings and claws.

Its a lot to pin on a fairly undetailed piece of background art. The only really clear element is a naked torso (plus the reanimator and scarabs)

It looks to me like only the one in the foreground is missing any limbs. Also in case you missed it, the "clothing" Insectum7 and I are referring to is what we believe to be flayed skin.

Old destroyers are probably staying.

That seems unlikely since GW are purging all the old green rod kits. Also, I'm pretty sure Stu Black mentioned that the current Destroyers are Lokhust Cult so it would seem reasonable this is just a renaming of the current ones to distinguish them from the Skorpekhs, with a third as-yet-unnamed Cult on the way at some point. It may be that the Heavy Destroyers get a complete overhaul into the new hopefully upgunned version we've seen with the current ones replaced with a smaller version of the same.

The new one is a 100% new unit, at no point does it say the existing destroyers remain. I keep asking this when the topic comes up, but hey does it matter? If the only floaty destroyers are the new ones and have a weapon option for every kind of target, why does having the weapons split into multiple units matter and likewise where is the value in yet another fast moving necron fly unit with a medium strength, medium ap gun if the heavy one has that covered?

Yeah, that's a "GW 100% new", so I'm expecting that the 3E/5E destroyer models will be phased out ( ), and these new models replace them with reworked datasheets. Those with the prior models should still be able to use them, they'll just look as different as if you were using the original metal destroyer models.

It never ends well

I should really finish my 5 and a half metal Destroyers.
I've got 21 Scarabs, still looking for a Lord so I can run an Outrider. If I can find two, I might sacrifice one to make a metal destroyer lord.

Currently I've got 2 D Lords and 3rd ed destroyer.

What we see here as a by-product of people being conditioned by GW only producing artwork of things they produce and cool art for the sake of art (see also, that minor Xenos collage) is now utterly alien (no pun intended) and everything must be a model and it can't just be a mood piece showing long damaged Necrons of whatever description rising out of the ground, as (space) undead are wont to do?

And, as a damaged Necron being reanimated, perhaps the "clothing" is actually plant matter of some sort.

I suspect there's also a partial drive to disassociate their models with the Terminator franchise and any risk of a lawsuit from Disney. This in turn allows an excuse to make more money.

There's quite a few converted Necron Warriors to T-800 Series Terminators floating around Reddit... The biggest change happens to be that little green rod being replaced by a red or purple one.

I will not rest until the Tabletop Imperial Guard has been reduced to complete mediocrity. This is completely reflected in the lore.

Gw purging something doesnst automatically mean it happens at once though. Historically looking it can be multi edition one.

Um, what? Terminator is not owned by Disney.

It is currently owned by Skydance and James Cameron. I have literally no idea what point you're making there.

Besides the connection is very casual and I don't really see how destroyers match up to Terminator - I don't recall Arny flying around on a jet-pad lower body.

If anything the terminator aspect was really only in the very early days when their lore was mostly "robot wakes up and starts killing without question". But even then their egyptian style made them far more "Tomb Kings in Space". Necrons today are far more fleshed out in lore and structure and whilst they are still mostly mindless death machines, they aren't Terminators.

Well, people not really paying much attention to that art, sure. But GW does produce it. Quite a lot of it actually. It just gets overlooked in the non-rules areas of the main rules and various codexes.
A fair number of people would be quite happy with mini-rulebooks and 3rd edition style pamphlet codexes.
