Subject: Do you keep your display/ Detolf shelves clear ?

Hi All
For storage I am currently storing my collection in ferro sheeted really useful voxes and magnetised bases and some KR foam trays. It works like a charm for storage and transport but its not great for displaying and enjoying the pieces.
Im in the final phase of setting up my den and I want to have a display cabinet area where I can keep my finished minins and display pieces so I can enjoy them.
It seems the best I can find is Ikea offering is spot on in terms of bang for buck:
https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/detolf-glass-door-cabinet-white-80269122/
So Im thinking of setting up two of these side by side.
There are other alternatives but a lot of display cabinets are not sealed and seem to have gaps.
My main concern is if Im leaving pieces there for a long time is the dust build up. In my mind if a piece of furniture is sealed well then there shouldn't be that much dust setting...
Any tips or suggestions for display cabinets and how to avoid dust problems?

To make a Detolf more dust-proof, you will need to add some extra seals to the gaps (ALL glass cabinets will have gaps.).
You can get self adhesive felt stripping which will help a lot.

I've got 4 in my shop and they are great. They are sealed all the way except for he door. Not sure how you'd seal that without loosing it's nice visual appeal. Dust is pretty minimal tho unavoidable if your models are in and out all the time.

Search youtube of 'Deltolf dust proof', several videos on the subject. Here's one -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yg48IZWI5ro
I had 3 Deltolfs, against a clean dust free wall, in a relatively clean room, and never needed to seal them up, no dust got in atall. In a busy family room, maybe more need.

We use it for draught-stopping around doors mostly here. Also dust, because I live alongside a heavy freight rail line.
Has a sticky-backing that will adhere to many things like tape, but felted other side (so it doesn't scratch glass, either). It's common here.

Nice one.
Will check it out. the displays will be in my hobby den so, sanding/Dremeling plastic & airbrushing will be happening in the room,
Really considering the more expensive MILSBO option as it seems to be much better sealed but its essentialy the price of 3 detolfs.

Ended up going for a single detolf with a riser elemnt.
Going to dust proof with some brush weather seal and chuck on some fancy LED for good measure and see how it goes
Significantly cheaper than the alternative. F almost the price of of the MILSBo I got a detolf, a small wardrobe, besta staorage riser unti and a small beedside chest of drawer. No brainer.

Dont want to make a new thread about this..
Ive dust porrfed and LED'd my detolf like a good lil nerd
Its not perfect but all things considered Im happy with it.
(Pictures to come tomorrow)
I started to put models on the shelves but noticed it seemas bit odd having see through glass. Myabe coz Im starting at the top shelf..
But does anyone cover their shelves or leave them clear glass ?
Im thinking about picking up a Figures Display Stand off ebay to add some pezaz to my minis:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warhammer-40K-Figures-Display-Stand-Retail-Black-Shelves-Tiered-Game/293025361570?hash=item4439ac2ea2:g:9t8AAOSwmdteVUnd
Toying with the idea of cutting a sheet of paper and putting it down ont he shelves or getting some purpose built display terrain/shelf texturing.
Any thoughts ?

You should check out the article I made on dakka about detolfs way back, probably almost ten years ago now. It's linked in my sig. Also, if you do a search, I'm sure you will find the relevant discussion we had back then.

Thanks, that's a great article.
I probably would have done it this way if I had the resource.
Alas I blundered around via youtube stuff and some general research. Unfortunately, my electric skills are non-existant so had to use off the shelves cables.
Will certainly be buying some more shelves as I get more stuff display ready and fill it up.
Anyway, with my amateurish skills this is what I have come up with.
Let me know what ya'll think.

Looks good. I have a detolf in pristine (empty) state just now. I found some nifty light baffles.on thingiverse so you get less glare coming out of the front of the unit. I have also ordered a few DASIK shelves as they seem to be the cheapest option out there. Even with printed supports, the acrylic shelves come in pricier than the DASIK

I still have that article saved up after all this time!
A note regarding extra shelves. Here in Canada, it's actually usually cheaper to just buy an extra Detolf for the shelves and throwing the rest away (or donating the now empty cabinet) than to source any replacement shelves. Plus, they will look better if you have any kind of OCD (green-tinted trims versus the clear acrylic for example)

Anyone know a good alternative to the Detolf in the US? While we do have a smattering of Ikeas here, they are not that prevalent. And the shipping cost on those is murder.
I’m still considering the full day trip across state lines, but would rather not spend ~ 8 hours on the road just for some shelves.

I did recently do a 5 hour roundtrip drive for my 4th detolf.

sorry no clue. I havent found anything that comes remotely to same price in the UK.
I highly recommend you get the riser unit as well. Besta storage system frame - 60x40x30 with hinges and a panel for a neat little box/storage to hide gbbins & wires as well as elevate the detolf.
Recommend you reserve/click and collect to ensure all the things you want are in stock to save you a long drive. My detolf was supposed to be black but they only had white of each riser and detolf.

I am in the process of purchasing a Detolf, but right now I still have a double door mahogany cabinet, it's a solid back with glass sides and doors with 2 glass shelves and it's so dusty inside.
The previous owner had put some weather stripping on the door gaps but dust is still finding it's way in.
