1d4chan had some good articles for 8th edition. I was hoping to read up on 9th. But the site has been down for some time. Do anybody know what happened or when it will be back?

(I would like to point out it has very little to do with 4chan despite the name as far as I can tell. I do not care for 4chan and would just like to seperate myself a little bit from assosiations.)

Don't know 100%, but there's a couple of threads on Reddit & elsewhere saying it's gone for good (due to being "racist, sexist, homophobic etc. ").

Isn't it also because its basically one person's work and they don't want/feel/have time to fix all the issues it has? I seem to recall that was one of the reasons.

It had an outage a little while back, and everything was restored from some older backups iirc.

It had a whole bunch of 9E tactics updates, up until only a few days ago, so don't know when it finally went down then.

Its gone? That's a pity, there were some good memes there.

Doubtful since that would take half the internet with it.

I actually read their tactica articles for just referencing stratagems or a overview of some factions. The memes became a little stale after a while but it wasn't a bad web.

This sounds very much like confusion with ACTUAL 4chan... which is, of course, somehow still alive and kicking.

Yes, it was a nice place to look things up. And their general stragem tips where quite good. (At least for tyranids, GSC, DE. The SW one was less usefull.)

I used to use 1d4chan quite a bit so hope its not a permanent thing.

It's a real shame if it's permanent.

If nothing else, I thought they did splendid overviews of the different armies, units, wargear etc.

IDK about one persons work but they ar very strick on who can change things, even when things are old, wrong, or written in a way that is just biased to be a dick, they won't let many work on it.

Can't vouch for the veracity of those claims but if it's a private site they could make it a white nationalists recruitment site. As long as it's not illegal you can host what you want.

Yeah, i never told new players to go to that site, its more just a fun read. There are many other places that has the pure rules and are fully updated all the time without the biased context.

Some information there is also just misleading, wrong, or very out of date. Like I remember under An'ggrath's entry on Chaos Daemons it suggests using Warp Surge to give him a 3++, when the strat explicitly can only give them as high as a 4++.

At best they summarized new rules just enough. At worst they just sucked.

It would be a real shame if they went down permanently. I didn't care much for the sometimes disgusting fan"art", but many of the memes and tongue-in-cheek fluff articles were genuienly funny and at least for a casual player like me, the tactics sections were the most accessible and comprehensive rules and gameplay overviews I've seen so far.

I've read the Settra section of 1d4chan a few times. It's hilarious.

It's like Warhammer/40k through the lends of someone explaining it in plain English.

I doubt it's down for good, the moderator didn't post anything leading up to it going down on his talk page which I check daily. I would be okay with it going down permanently, Goonhammer articles are really high quality, higher quality than I ever think 1d4chan will be.

Did GW update the tactics article explaining how to cheat with a Morkanaut using it as an assault vehicle in 7th? If GW's marketing site gets it wrong then a mainly humouristic site getting it wrong is not amazing, did you change it? You know you have that power right? That's the whole purpose of it being a wiki and not something written by approved writers with an editor and fact-checkers like the official GW stuff has.

I did find it useful for reference and basic rules overviews — especially considering the rules bloat of GW that makes you look through so many different books, but I will say whoever is running that site needs to do some serious growing as a person.

They routinely used what is the most common word for sexual assault as a verb to mean that a unit was good. Saying "X unit will *&%! your opponent's army." Using that word so flippantly trivializes the real pain of people who have actually been subjected to that kind of trauma. Seriously not OK.

And before someone goes off on me for being "afraid" to use that word, I'm not using it because it can be a very disturbing word for anyone who actually has experienced sexual assault and it's better not to assume that everyone wants to see it — which again, part of why I have an issue with that site's use of the word.

There's a few other comments saying they were trying to move server / host, so it's possible they were kicked off their old one... (but I'm just speculating - no-one seems to know for sure)

The difference is 1d4chan wouldn't let people fix the mistakes, so many of them sat there for years.

What do you expect from a site created by and primarily curated by 4chan regulars? Its frankly amazing that its as tame as it is.

Agree with all of this post. The site was useful, but utterly vile in its use of that word repeatedly.

That's too bad. I found 1D4chan much more useful than this forum, where newcomers are treated harshly and people who aren't exacting in their choice of words are frequently abused. Also rules questions tend to rapidly degenerate into debates about why Space marines should be nerfed, where on 1D4chan if you wanted to read strategies for Space Marines (or any other army) you just read the page.

Agreed. Obviously people sensitive to issues such as that are not their target audience and I don’t suspect it would take them long to figure out that is not the place for them.

They weren't always the most up to date, but they gave a good snapshot of how an army worked. I read through the tactica articles quite a bit when I was deciding on an army. Most of them were more silly/memey than offensive, mostly weeb comments and ludicrous paint art.
