It's been quite some time since the last info drop, such as it were, hit with what they were developing. Has any other news leaked, or any rumors abound?

Nope.

Don't forget its a project years off and that was before Corona. Chances are its at an early enough stage that its still conceptual so Corona might not have harmed it, but it might well have delayed it because of harm caused to other things. Its at least pushed it a good 6 months or more down the line since that is very crudely where its pushed many other GW releases. But at the same time it might be longer, we've no idea how long Corona will keep stalling GW nor really any idea how its impacted things.

The conceptual and design phases might not even be that harmed at all and indeed with lockdowns and designers not needing production machines it might eve nbe further along considering that GW is now a good few months lagging behind their release schedule.

Production and such would be where the issues are, but those are latter stages and Corona might well (we hope) be gone by then so GW's factories would be up and running as normal (including the shiny new one)

I'd be nice if they gave a little info every 3 months or so, just to see the progress.

Although no official news, we do know there must be quite some work behind doors. In the last couple of months/weeks there has been three job listings related to specialist range (conceptual and miniature designer + writer, if I remember). Could be for other games too but since BB, LotR, Necromunda all have somewhat steady releases, I suppose the new recruits would rather be for a game in the works considering the specificity of the roles.

I mean they made it clear when they first announced "The Old World" that it was years away so I doubt well see much until maaaaybe late next year?

I mean don't forget, part of the reason they announced it when they did was because Mantic was releasing Kings of War 3rd edition. It was sort of a shot at them to get back from when Kings of War 2nd Edition came out at the release of Age of Sigmar back in 2015 and made big effort to steal WHFB players

It was probably announced to take the wind out of Kings of War 3E's sails. They know that even the most disgruntled GW (former?) fan will probably come running back for the 'real deal', regardless of quality, and I'd say it was pretty effective in doing that. Most KoW discussion I see generally has become, "...until TOW comes out."

I think perhaps because covid they maybe had to shift resources around.

I hope the project team doesn't get stripped/broken up to cover shortfalls elswhere...

Or it was a sham release designed to hit KOW and nothing g was intended in the first place. Warrior Elsas could easily be nothing more than a Kislev unit for AOS.

Unlikely. GW knows the value of solid and reliable marketing. It's one thing they've protected and kept sacred over the decades. When GW announces something its as good as a confirmation that its coming. It's rarer that they cancel something they announce.

It's why they so rarely talk about the future and all the possibilities and will often give either "we can't say at this time" or "anything is possible" type answers.

Anyone who recalls Spartan Games might be aware that they used to have very unreliable marketing. They'd preview both long term and shorter term releases, some with dates, and would often miss them. It greatly annoyed the fanbase because customers would get excited and then nothing would happen; it could take weeks/months or never hear again about what happened to a release.Partly this is because they were understaffed in terms of being able to support all their games at once; but at the same time they kept releasing new games because it gave them a big cash injection each time. They had fantastic creativity, they just seemed to lack the right marketing and focus and growth to keep up and remain. It didn't help that their CEO went ill for a prolonged period of time as well, which in a small firm is painful.

Fires of Cyraxus has had four release dates, and appears to have disappeared entirely since missing all of them.

Forgeworld is in a bubble of its own. I think mostly because when the head of 30K died he took a huge amount of the power behind things with him; both in terms of the game development, but also (from what I gather) the ability to navigate GW's internal politics and priorities and such.

FW has floundered in confusion for a good few years now even as the specialist games are doing really well.

We must be in different discussions then. KoW players that I know are generally not interested or might take a look, they tend to be big on KoW and Mantic fans though.

I have overheard and seen comments saying that people would rather wait on this that get into KoW though. I assume that some people still see KoW as an "instead of" game and will go back as soon as there is an Old World again.
There are also plenty of players that have moved on and embraced Kings of War as their main fantasy game.

Same thing that I've heard from KoW, WHFB, Conquest players. A few are not looking back and the rest are mildly curious to see what this ends up being but no real enthusiasm or intention of jumping on it. They moved on for a reason, many people are too aware of gw's game system format and don't want to return to that type of... eh, "product".

I'd be interested in the artwork and fluff aspect if they expand on the Age of the Three Emperors (or anything of the Old World really), so basically a core book, but I have zero trust in the gaming part. At this stage, gw are probably incapable of writing something better than all the other options out there.

Otherwise, it's also possible to play multiple systems

Not interested in the gaming aspect. GW burned the bridges with AOS and I am happy with 9th Age.
