Also the Grand Alliances are political alliances, but they are not perfect. Idoneth raid mostly humans and aelves for souls it seems so they are already attacking many order factions for souls.

Meanwhile other groups will happily war with each other given the proper motivations. Even Stormcast get pushback when they go on their Chaos Purges in peaceful Cities of Sigmar.

Morathi is good in so much as she HATES chaos and will fight tooth and tail against them. Which serves Sigmar's needs, even if she basically runs a fighting blood cult who are about as bloody as any vampires (who I really hope are one of the next armies to get added - soulblight)

I know, lawful evil counts as Order. The perception is that Order is good where Chaos is bad. Things are seldom so black and white though and that is what makes good story telling. I am wondering if there is a Chaos faction that doesn't seem to fit in like there are Order factions that seem off?

If you read the novella War Queen you can get a good idea how many of the wild warband who worship Chaos are not all that bad internally. They are right now akin to Barbarians against the Roman Empire - not outright bad, but certainly against Sigmar and his ordered hosts and nations.

The real twisted ends of Chaos come later as you start to get closer to the Warriors and the Eightpoints. A twisting that will likely see you become more and more depraved.

Road-Raging Blood Angel Biker

I’m coming from 40K, been kicking around with Blood Angels for many many years, plus a few other armies.
I used to have a small Wood Elves army way back when, but when AoS dropped I didn’t make the move, just focused on my 40k.
Been feeling a little burned out with 40K lately, so I wanted to try something a bit more Fantasy. Tried ASOIAF but way too hard to find opponents nearby.
Saw the Lumineth Army Box, and really liked the look of the new boys. Didn’t take the plunge until the preorders dropped, really liked the Scinari Cathallar. Looked in to the army a bit more and saw the Stonemage, Stoneguard, and Cow Mountains and I was sold. Now running a Ymetrica army, waiting for lockdowns to ease up so I can put them on the table.

I always wanted a Death army. When I was a lad I'd stare at the pics in White Dwarf, longingly wishing for an unstoppable force of boney warriors. When I got older and had the cash for it I finally scratched that childhood itch. I've now got a vast collection of LoN and NH and I regret nothing.

I started a 1k SCE force last year. First and foremost, I've always been a fan of the SCE models, especially Vanguard. The list focuses solely on shooting as I wanted to try something completely different to Death.

I've also just started a 1k Nurgle Daemons list. This was started as a by-product of 40k, where I play Death Guard. I picked up Daemons to complement my Death Guard and it just makes sense that I run it sometimes in AoS.

I'm thinking in time I'd like to round out my collection with a Destruction army but as of yet nothing catches my eye enough.

Cause Lumineth look awesome, despite what people say about the lumineth's cow warriors or whatever. I actually really like that design, its unique, its cool, and its a different take on Elves that I really enjoy, not even to mention most of their models are absolutely gorgeous AF along with them having some really interesting lore and rules.

Then you also have the potential for them to expand to the other tyrionic nations and all the other alelementari temples, with wind, river, and zenith still undiscovered or not shown at all. Makes the mind go really wild. ALong with the Uglu races which might be interesting. Also because I really want to see what they do with Tyrion.

Why did I choose my (initial) army....

TBH? Limited budget.
And to a degree limited space & time....
See, I discovered the wonders of Warhammer Fantasy Battle (3rd ed) waaay back in the late summer of '89 - as a soon to be poor college student.

The army I was most drawn to was Skaven.
I couldn't afford that. And very soon I wouldn't have either the space to store it (college dorm) nor the time to build/paint it.

My 2nd choice was Dwarves.
Well, they required less models than doing Skaven. And they were considerably cheaper as any # of companies even then made dwarf minis. But they still exceeded my available $, time, & space.

So I went with Chaos.
High pts cost, a decent enough force could be done with a low model count, and like the dwarves every company made evil looking knights/marauders/monsters cheaper than GW. I also already had a slight head start as I could raid the figures we used in our Dungeons & Dragons games for some of the monsters.
And I could get them painted up & store them easily enough.
Thus I learned the game fall - spring my freshman year of college using Chaos.

Spring/summer of '90, with improved financials, I built & used a dwarf army at the local shop. And I refined my Chaos abit.
Chaos became the army I took with me to college, Dwarves & other stuff I used when home in the summers.

After my college days my income & space increased my armies proliferated. To put it mildly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Flash forward to now;
It's easier to list what I DON'T have/play.

What I'm currently using:
1) Beasts of Chaos - I'm using small portions of my beasts in two different Path to Glory campaigns atm. Since the PtG stuff is in the same case as the rest of the army, guess what's always handy for matched play games?
My Beastguys fall into two main categories;
A: big units of Ungors/Gors/Bestigors + chariot support. Mostly old metal sculpts. A few new plastic things like some Tzangors.
B: More minotaurs (you all know them as Bullgors) than I can actually field at 2k pts. I LOVE the sculpts of the old 5th?/6th? ed metal minotaurs. So as we had a penchant for playing 3k pts games at that time, I'm well stocked now days.
Support comes in the form of 2 chimeras & a bunch of cockitrices (my favorite thing to summon) - the amount of MWs I can throw out is rediculous.
Over all I love how this army plays. And of course how it looks (I don't play with models I don't like the sculpts of, those days are long gone)
I also love the look on an opponents face when they realize just how dangerous cockitrices really are.
My current goal is to use the cockitrices to petrify Teclis & a Lord of Change. When this happens I will buy those models & paint them up as statues/terrain. So far, to my wallets relief, my prey has eluded me by several wounds....

2) Gloomspite Gitz
I first used some of these guys in our previous Path to Glory campaign. They were a blast to play. And the current plastic kits are fantastic lookwise. I LOVE their Endless Spells (both model wise & effects)!
So back in the spring I finally finished painting up every goblin I owned while everything in my area was locked down due to the pandemic. 320some goblins (most ages old plastics/metals all at most poorly painted years ago.) + about 30 orcs & assorted catapults etc in two months. I think I burned myself out painting for the year....
So if I don't have the Beastmen in the car I've brought the Gitz.

This coming Sat? I'll be putting a Sons of Behemat force on the table. That Mega-Gargant is an awesome looking model. Even merely base-coated.

In our next PtG campaign I'll try some Daughters of Khaine. Specifically a Temple Nest list at the start with all the Medusai.
Paintings about done, though it's taken alot longer as the goblins burnt me out....

I wanted an army for every alliance.
I love elves and wanted to do high elves back at the start, but with a lot of things disappearing, I waited.
Orruks were the first big faction I liked and decided to build and collect them.
I decided I wanted a proper elf army for order, and thinking light elves were still far off, jumped on Cities of Sigmar after playing a fair big of Total War 2 with both wood elves and high elves.
For death, I wanted soulblight, but I'm waiting for a release on them that brings models up to a good standard and not resin. This might be the often rumored Vampirates, or could be just a normal Vampire release.
For Chaos, you have to pick a god right? So I went with Slaanesh, but I do like Tzeentch as well quite a bit. I had a lot with a color scheme where the main parts of the my slaanesh models are the usual purple, but because they are meant to be part of some sort of Tzeentch Trickery, they have some blues at the end to show a tzeentch influence.

Nearly 3k+ points of Slaanesh (AoS)
2500 points of Ironjawz
Too many points of Space Marines.

I really liked the Treelord sculpts so when there was a local slow grow started with the launch of 2E I picked up a couple start collectings and... didn't really like them. In small point games getting more forests was entirely too random as was the tendency of the treelords themselves to do a lot of nothing. I kind of shelved the whole thing until Looncurse where I added some Kurnoth (which are sculpts I didn't love until I owned them) but then their 2E battletome kind of made the whole army even more frustrating to play and I just shelved the whole game.

Then Warcry came out but didn't support Sylvaneth, but no one had been willing to buy my Looncurse Gitz so... I painted up a warband and then the Christmas box was released and really love the squigs so I painted up an army that sadly I've never played because of the whole Nurgle thing. Will I actually like them? Probably not, but I like the models enough that I'm tempted to pick up more stuff to do a Jawz list.

In Warhammer Fantasy Battles, I played Bretonnia and Tomb Kings. That didn't migrate well into AoS. So, I needed to pick something new.

I'm a wetland biologist with a graduate degree in fish biology, so I chose to play Sylvaneth and Idoneth. Lol.

But I am usually drawn to the "nature" faction/class in most games anyway.

Plus, the I absolutely love the models in those two ranges.

I originally started Blades of Khorne because they had gotten their first shared Tome and it was relatively easy to begin a force with a starter half. I also just loved the Bloodthirsters so it was a win-win. Then Daughters came out and I was instantly hooked. I love having all-women forces and DoK provided that(despite the warlocks). Their wild eyed rush towards the opponent is just something I live for which is why I was naturally lead to: Flesh-Eater Courts and running 80+ ghouls.

Also have an Idoneth force that I am slowly building, but I just want a new tome(or the Morathi book) to address some of the issues in that tome.

Dammit, someone at the local shop pointed me towards https://ttcombat.com/ this evening (because of terrain).
What happened? I saw the Undead 1/2ling army coming up for pre-orders later this week. They're hillariously awesome.
So I guess since I'm going to be giving TTCombat a fair chunk of change real soon I'd best figure out a working Undead list....

Haven't started yet but will be going with Sylvaneth. Mainly for the aesthetics, the models look really good in my oppinion and there are plenty of themes you can go for with painting.
The rules seem pretty solid and look fun to play. Would be nice if maybe the Treelord Ancient had a 2 cast base but can't have it all i guess =/

Originally started off with the Tomb Kings. After playing them for a while, I found that my play style was more Vampire Counts. I loved the cheap hordes, the powerful characters, and just the overall game play back in 7th edition. Then in 8th edition, I started building a Warriors of Chaos army. I went with big beasts and more monster mash with 2 blocks of warriors, a handful of marauders and dog followed up by Knights and a chimera. My last army was a surprise - I got a deal on Lizardmen.

When AOS came out, I had a mish mash of stuff that was half an army here and there or just a grand alliance. So I waited for army books to flesh out my armies. I had 18 Ogors for my Chaos Army and I made them a maw tribes army because why not! I kept my Lizards pretty much as is - they are just more 5th edition lizards... My Vampires became Legions of Nagash but I need more mid sized monsters to make them competitive. Not too happy with them because I feel like they just don't pack a punch or staying power to my other armies. I've got 40 ghouls and 2 varghulf but no other characters - would just need to rebase and buy a handful of start collecting boxes to have a flesh eaters army too. My Chaos are the biggest army (points wise) - it's Slaanesh and Tzeentch Slaves to Darkness (mortals) but more Slaanesh than Tzeentch. I've got a small Beasts of Chaos with Dogs and 6 Dragon ogors contingent led by a Shaggoth. I've also got a bunch of smaller contingents for various chaos gods - 6 blood crushers, 2 hell cannons, 6 chaos trolls, and several various characters named in each of the god specific books. So much of what and how I used to play changed with AOS but this last year pretty much made me want to play with the introduction of Ogors and Slaves to Darkness. With Slaanesh mortals coming out, I'm even more excited!

When I was a kid at the game shop my first experience with wargaming was fantasy and watching a guy's death army fighting an army of another's elves. And so by the time I could afford buying minis I bought death. Sadly Fantasy was killed and I made them for AoS. Later on due to my love of Fantasy I began to buy up random old boxes and that's why I play CoS. Slaneesh was very close but I just never got into chaos enough. Something about hordes or normal folk tend to be more interesting to me.

I've been agonizing over making a choice for weeks, if not months now.

First I wanted to get Everchosen, because that big boy is such a beast of a model. But the more I have thought about it, I play Black Legion in 40K. So why do it twice? When the Sea Elves came out, I was enamored with them for months up until the release. I even bought three of the characters and the battletome. But, I just couldn't get into the rest of the models. It was the characters and the Eidolons I really liked. When Gloomspite Gitz came out I absolutely adored the models and the aesthetic. But, I'm not a very good wargamer and it became apparent after some extensive research that they're a faction which has a lot of rules, and even more models. Playing a Horde based faction sounds fun, but realistically speaking I didn't want to combo that with a bunch of rules. The Slaaneesh Deamons and the new mortals look great, but everyone here is excited. I imagine come January, they're going to be quite numerous on my local tables. I liked the Treants from Sylvaneth, and that Beetle Queen is one of the best looking models in all modeldom. But, I didn't like the looks of any of the other models.

I keep feeling like there is no hope. Everyone in my area has a Sigmarine army. Heck, I even owned some of those for a while in 2018. They're neat, but not that neat. And all the Khorne stuff that looks good, is supposedly not.

When the Undead Ghosts came out, I was initially excited for them. But, upon inspection, I just didn't like how fragile they are. I'm Mr. Fumble Thumbs when it comes to playing and modeling. I was terrified of damaging them. My Friend suggested Legions of Nagash because I love skelingtons and I have to admit, Naggy himself is a beast of a model. But, some of those kits look so old and with AoS seeing most of their releases being full army redos or updates I've been scared of buying into something that might get redone or axed. Just like with the Cities of Sigmar stuff.

I like Knights in 40K. Thought they were cool, but never really got one and actually played it. When the Giants came out this year, I was really excited. I thought, maybe I'll play those! But, when I realized it was going to be about a grand for an army of them, I just silently lost my excitement.

My friend really want me to come play more, and I just feel frustrated. Every time I find something I think I'll like, I find a problem. Heck, the new High Elves are amazing...until you get to those god awful, horrid Cow Giants. And Hammers? Why in God's name do these Elves have these weird out of place hammers? Especially when their standard infantry with the shields and spears and bows look absolutely stunning! Then there is that character, sitting on like twelve tacticool balanced tactical rocks. I look at it and have nightmares about all the ways that could break during transport.

Well, tonight my pals and I were having another discussion about it. Some of us are about to get out Vaccines for COVID-19 and once we do, we want to meet up at one of our houses to have a big gaming weekend. The best estimate is for us to meet up in late Feb - early Mar.

I kept thinking as we talked, what could I do? I want something that hits hard, requires little thought, has good solid and easy to build and paint models with a great centerpiece model.

And then it hit me, with all the force of the Biggest, Greenest, Angriest fist.

Ironjawz.

The one faction I'd not even given a second look. I jumped over to the 1d4Chan article on them and I started reading.

Can Ally with Giants: Check
Can Ally with Gloomspite: Check.

I still haven't yet decided to pull the trigger on this, but I'm looking at their models right now and I love everything from that awesome Dragon Rider, to their Wizard, to the Brutes and Arde' Bois, to the little Oink Oink Riders. I even noticed that you can fit the named big giants in 1 for around 400 points as an ally. Or, I could get some of the Squigg riders I really like and bring them along too! All these years I've hated with a passion 40K orks and I've extended that hate to the AoS cousins. But really, the AoS Orks look so much better than those small, pot-belly weirdos covered in way too much bits from 40K...

Yes, it's pretty much that simple.
If you find a force that you like the play style of AND like all of the models? That's definitely the army for you. Pull the trigger!

On playing the Giants as an army....
f you're not afraid to field non-GW pieces you can actually put this force on the table dirt cheap as Wizkids, in their unpainted minis line for D&D, has numerous giants easily comparable to the standard GW giant. At $15/each that leaves plenty of money left to invest in a GW Mega-Gargant (or two). There's also non-GW giants the size of the Mega - that won't break your wallet for 7" of plastic.
And there's humorous things things you can do with non-GW "giants". For ex; I found a pretty cool 8" King Kong figure (for the delayed Kong vs Godzilla movie) while out Christmas shopping. And in the Wizkids D&D/PathFinder minis range? They make a giant ape....
So come 2021 after I get done painting them & mounting them on the right size bases I'm going to throw an army of giant apes at my buddy. I'll dig out the jungle terrain. It'll look awesome.

That elf wizard sitting on the rocks? I built one. Nice model. Nowhere near as fragile as you're thinking.
The rest of the Luminoth army? Functions just fine without giant cow-god or the cow elves with hammers (though a simple head & weapon swap on the infantry greatly improve them IMO).

I don't mind buying the Giants. I blessed to have disposable income for my hobbies. It was just the idea of having to do it all in one go to get a full army to play, rather than just getting one or two to ally in.

Man, the more I look at these Ironjawz minis, the more I love them. They look truly intimidating. The Warboss on foot even looks hella cool. I've already got color schemes running through my head!

Gloomspite for me.
Always had a goblin army so being able to mix squigs, trolls and giants still is always a massive plus.

As for the new year though, my group decided to start a new army project.
2,000 points in 2 months.
Flesh eater courts were an easy pick for me as they are quick to paint, decent kits, play well and their fluff is amazing.
Not only that, but £200 nets you a decent 2,000 point list including their faction terrain.
