Subject: So i bought a Mek Gun and i have questions

Hey guys.
I got my hands on a Mek Gun for orks, and i have a few questions.
First of all, the datasheet coming with the package shows different stats than the datasheets shown on wahapedia. Wahapedia shows the mek gun having 6 wounds, where as the datasheet coming with the package shows the Mek gunz having 2 wounds.
Wahapedia also shows the mek gunz with melee and such skills, where as the datasheet coming with the package shows the grots as having a different datasheet that can then do melee.
Im guessing the wahapedia page has incorperated it all in to one unit where as the datasheet with the package just.. shows them as two seperate even though they are not?
Anyway!
How many Grots accompanies 1 Mek Gun? there are enough bases to make 5 grots, yet the package datasheet says a Mek Gun comes with 2 grots. Can i bring 5 grots total for no additional cost? Or how does that work? Wahapedia says they are accompanied by 6 grot krews but there are only 5 bases in the package.
Also is the bubblechukka really bad after the blast rule was announced?
And lastly, which of the Mek Gunz types works best?
thanks buddies, these Mek gunz confuse me.

Your sources for reliability with any unit's rules should be as follows:
Latest Codex and any FAQs > the datasheet that comes in the box > any third party source, whatsoever.

8E codex (in front of me) has Mek Gunz as W6, and 6 got crew (1 manning the weapon and 5 standing alongside). Crew are superfluous, have no rules, and can't be targeted, so it doesn't really matter.
Your datasheet is probably an earlier edition.
Wahapedia and Battlescribe are both good. Not 100% accurate, but close.

Its been covered, however, to address your other point; Bubblechuckas still kind of suck.
The best Mek Gun is Smasha gunz followed by KMK/Traktor, and neither is close to being as good as the Smasha gun is. It averages 1 hit a turn and against Elite infantry almost always wounds, and with -4 and D6 damage its actually really good at popping vehicles and elite infantry.
The KMK has much higher damage potential but you are likely going to lose wounds rolling 1s to hit as well as the fact that 1/3rd more expensive than the Smasha gun and only averages 1.75 hits a turn compared to the smasha's 1.
An argument could be made for the KMK with the new blast rolls (Minimum 3 shots against 6-10 models) but the problem is, their primary targets usually run in groups of 3-5, rarely will you see a player grab the 6th model for a gravis squad. team that with the fact that Mek gunz die relatively easily, and I would suggest you stick with Smasha gunz. less points investment.
Also, last note for Mek gunz. If you go buy a Trukk model you can actually mash the two together to make 3 Mek Gunz out of the 2 kits, this will save you a lot of money since Mek gunz are like $50 and trukkz were like $40.

Thanks for all your replies.
Does it really matter if i have 6 grot krews if the models dont die unless the entire model loses its 6 wounds?

Yes, because enemies can draw LOS to the grot crew, but you can only draw LOS from the Mek Gun.

player's choice honestly. If you are playing a friendly game...no. if you are playing in a tournament...yes. if you don't bring the grots technically its "Modeling for advantage" and is not allowed. Personally I don't care but some tournament players/refs do.

Sorry but that's like saying "My Bolt Rifles are AP-6 and Damage 8. If you are playing a friendly game...yes. if you are playing in a tournament...no." Friendly games aren't carte blanche to ignore the rules. You're free to house rule but that is all they are, house rules.

Your datasheet is probably an earlier edition.
This is quite likely, but also fair warning, the new 'condensed' datasheets in the boxes are intentionally incomplete. They give statlines, but no longer provide any rules text.
Beyond a general guide to the strength and range of weapons and unit stats, they're no longer of any real use.

Are you all sure about the Grot line-of-sight? The rule says "cannot be targeted or attacked separately." Maybe we've been doing it wrong all this time, but targeted to us suggests can't be used for LoS. They make good wound counters though.

No, that means you can't kill the grots on their own, you can only deal damage to the gun.
No, we haven't "been doing it wrong" all the time, we've been following the rules.

We, as in our group. As opposed to you, I'm sure you're just great at following the rules, which is why I asked.
