Funnily enough the old Rhino had separate bolters too, that changed when its model was updated... I guess they never saw a need to update the bike model (until Outriders now, of course).

Not until quite a way into the edition though and IIRC it was a storm bolter when the Codex came out.

Before. It had a Storm Bolter in the BRB army lists, too.
