lol no Just trying to help fund a kickstarter launch. Did you know it's really really expensive to pay to get a kickstarter off the ground and getting a product to market? Here for example - Illustrations, 2000-to7000 for commercial use for illustrations and 20% royalties which makes it impossible to make a profit(that one makes me bitter knowing the industry as an artist and knowing they're over charging. ), lawyers fees for contracts 300$ an hour to look over a contract to hire an illustrator so you don't get sued by that illustrator, 600$ an hour for copyright lawyers, and 2000$ to check out trademarks so I don't get sued by another company if I accidentally happen to use their name. licencing for music 100$, videographer fees in excess of 1000$ for filming and editing, Wardrobe 300$ plus, actors and models 200$ an hour for 3 to 5 hours of work, web design over 2000, Tooling cost 5000 to 50,000 and the list goes on. Oh that does not include my 20k initial investment which I've burned through already on equipment and software, housing and food. See in order for me to get this kickstarter off the ground I somehow need to pay a bunch of people that want me to pay exceedingly high prices for minimal work. Like an illustrator asking for 20% royalties on top of 7000$ for illsutrations for comerical use, All of that for models I plan to sell for 20$ or less plus shipping costs, meaning it would nearly be impossible to make a profit with production costs. .. Things like that ..
Mostly I'm just trying to pull invisible cash out of my rear end to make ends meet so I don't shoot myself in the face trying to get my products to launch before I go bankrupt, go hungry, and die in the cold damp Canadian snow. A bit of exaggeration but you get the idea.
So no I'm not running a 3D modelling sweatshop. I've studied for over 20 years as an artist, and over 15 in the industry trying to get to this point. Just to undersell my work online so I can not lose my place of residence while I figure out how to pull another 20k out of thin air before i can launch a Kickstarter, some of that underselling my goods online will be used to pay additional 3D modellers to sculpt miniatures lines to speed up the process for the final product which won't even be used in the kickstarter itself simply to have more product on launch for the game.
Word of advice, unless you have five hundred thousand dollars in your bank account, don't try to start your own game company you will be doomed on the onset.
I don't know how it works for everyone else out in the industry but that pistol is looking awfully friendly these days.
Need something 3D modelled? Want some windows washed? Hey, I'll even groom your cat, or walk your dogs, you done with those empty beer cans by the way?
In retrospect, I should write a book about this so no one gets the bright idea of trying to start their own tabletop wargame company.
I've been at this for over 10 to 16 hours a day sometimes longer leading up to launch, around 5 months before grandfather Nurgle decided to visit us here in our universe and bring happy happy fun time to the economy. In addition to having business partner walk off with half of my money never to be heard from again.
Maybe I should run a sweatshop. Or overcharge for everything or draw furry characters online for 1000$ a picture. But nope.. I did the smart thing and put all of my cash into this investment because I thought it would be COOL to have my own game company.
Did I mention I haven't sold a single model yet?

I was going to say that if you've spent 20K and got nothing to show for it, you're doing something wrong.
But really? Whether that's the case or I'm just delusional is almost irrelevant right now. You're clearly running into some tough times and things aren't panning out how you'd hoped. Last thing you need is some anonymous tosser on the internet rubbing your face in it. So yeah, I hope you manage to figure something out guv, and get your kickstarter going, and that things pick up for you generally!

Yeah lol. There's a lot of money required to get things done by "professionals". So you learn to do a lot yourself. Example today I learned I didn't need to buy a tri-pod for a DSLR camera for shooting a video, I could buy an attachment for a mic stand for 10$ and use that instead of shelling out 100 to 200. I can tell you one thing is that I'm never ever going to take small business owners for granted again. Well, good luck. Definitely seems like a larger scale project than the various kickstarters my friends have done over the years, if you're talking about stuff like Videographers, Models, Wardrobe etc.
Though I will say considering doing commission work for art of furry characters doing sex stuff is definitely 100% accurate to the experience of several friends of mine. One funded the entire kickstarter cost of his card game doing that.

Pardon my ignorance, but how your 3D model service works?
Could you build a 3D model from some pictures provided by me? For example, if I have pictures of a castle, could you make a 3D render of that castle?
Or you build a 3D model from scratch based on references provided by me, like the castle blueprints?
Or you just build the 3D model from scratch based on what I ask ("I want a castle") and you desig it on your own?
I am asking just because although currently my personal finances are not in the best of shapes, maybe some day I could require your services.
Regards.

Yes I can build anything you want. References help, sketches, maps, designs etc.
As for cost it depends on the complexity of the project because of time. I would personally advise against building an entire castle for 3D design. It's going to be expensive to do other than something simplistic. It's going to be difficult to print and optimize for printing it will require it to be broken down into castle pieces that you would assemble later, meaning you need to understand fully sizes of 3D slicers and printing.
In addition you might not want to pay for every brick, every doorway, every sconce, every rampart Every portcullis.. Because of this I would take short cuts and that could lead to you being unhappy with the final product. Instead of modeling every brick I'd use a pattern aka an alpha brush to paint on the bricks. It might work out okay but it could have issues over large wall sections around corners etc.
My advice is start working with foam, use foam rollers for bricks and start building up small sections at a time. While you practice 3D printing fitting doorways etc.
I'll take your money if you want but I suggest you request help with complex stuff you can't replicate easily out of foam, for your build.
That will save you time and money.
As for build cost depending on detail anywhere from 150 for minimalist details, to over 3000$ Cad if you want every brick made. It's a long project.if you want.zomethic epic. If it's for commercial use that's a totally different conversation. With fancy things like royalties, and international copyright law, lawyers fees etc.
They're are things we can do to lower the price, but it requires a much longer conversation and walking through the process. Send me a pm for details.
Send me your references.I'll give you an estimate based on four different levels of detail. And how to get the.results you want at each tier.
Keep an open mind let's see what you have and we can talk about the process and get the best bang for your buck.
Go example I can

This one is interesting because I don't have the physical model for size comparison if I'm only sculpting the torso and head.
Custom jobs do cost more on average. And if it's for commercial use the price goes up. If it's "fan art" basically then you don't need to worry about it.
Send me a PM we can talk about it.
Be forewarned It's difficult to eyeball exact sizing without a physical model. Since I've never played evil space elves before.. It might be difficult for me.
You would be taking a bit of financial risk on this to be honest. If it does not fit you would have to figure it out on your own from there. I don't want to say that " I CAN DO THIS!" and have you left out in the cold.
There are potentially other sculptors that know the sizing and have the models. But without me physically 3D printing the model and sizing it up via trial and error .. I can't say that it's going to be an exact match.
So I'll take your money no problem and do the work. But I won't assure you the torsos will fit 100%. I'll do my best however if you decide you want to get some sculpting done.

Minor crits on you sculpts, if you're intending to 3d print those at conventional tabletop scales <32mm, you'll need to tweak some of the proportions.
As is the handle on the tankard and the hinge for the open lid, whilst proportionate in reality, are too thin and will likely break from handling as miniature pieces.
And some of the details on that chemdog sculpt are too small, mainly the smaller pustules around the inner eye and grills on the front of the mask.
If you can get them to even print, they'll get filled/flattened by model paint.

A few notes here.
The above chem dog is a concept sketch, It's around 16 million polygons at the moment, and won't be printed.
The Brewmaster Mug is about the size of a dwarf's head. It will print as intended. lol I've been at this a while. Don't worry about it.

Well, I don't know about you, but dismissing a very valid point (that is, that sculpting for printing needs to emphazise details for it to print "as a real mini" instead of what you get from a non-properly scaled sculpt) with a simple "lol I've been at this a while. Don't worry about it" doesn't really cut it for me.
Maybe providing examples of designs made like that and then printed would be a better answer. You know, putting your money where your mouth is and all that.
For the record, I'm pretty sure that would print (I've been printing Epic stuff for a while now), but I agree that some of the detail, particularly the hinge (and even more particularly the hinge's screw) may print too slight for it to be of any use as an actual mini.

You're both lacking context and evidence for anyone to reasonably take either of you seriously. You don't know what images are or what they're for, or even what size they are.
That is why I dismissed the point, I don't see it as valid, it has no merit in this context.
All I can say is good luck. Thanks for your concern, but I'll think I'll just keep doing what I'm doing, with the confidence I've built from the many years of experience as a professional.

You are right. The only context we have is:
1) what you've given us
2) what this forum is aimed for
What you've given us are some renders and a phrase: " The Brewmaster Mug is about the size of a dwarf's head. It will print as intended".
That, coupled with a forum centered mainly in GW and other similarly sized miniature games and the fact that it is styled as a GW dwarf item, lends to the assumption that it is, indeed, supposed to be used as an add-on or part of a GW-sized miniature.
Are any of these assumptions wrong?
You can take any disagreement and concern and do whatever you want with them, of course, that's up to you. And you can dismiss it however you want. But at least don't say we lack context if you don't provide any, and more importantly, if you can provide it, which I assume you can.
Anyways, good luck with your endeavour. Hope it works out for you.

To me it seems that an attitude like that is counterproductive to acquiring new customers.
Despite one's feelings or opinion (It very well could be you've already tested the design in whatever format is required, we don't know) But the responses could have been phrased in a not-so-negative manner yet still convey the same message.
Despite how good your work is, people will turn away if the attitude is bad.

"If I can provide any"?
Why are you being so toxic? Like I said you don't know what you're talking about, and I respectfully ask you to keep pedantic criticism to yourself. I'm certainly not going to give you a lesson on 3D modelling, printing, and sizes, when you're assumptions are incorrect. For example the mug is around the same size as a space marine torso. It's at least twice as large as someone might assume at Frist glance. In fact it's comically large on the original reference images.
I'd also thank you to stop trying to sabotage my lively hood with whatever it is you're trying to do on this thread.
It's coming off as aggressive, needy, and embarrassing.
"Prove you can do it if you can"
This isn't jr highschool guy, The only person I need to prove anything to is my clients.
Who as far as I can tell, all of them have been happy over the years. Including the gentleman who commissioned this "exact match" for the mug.
"Okay, thanks! I really appreciate your help"!
Respectfully I think you have nothing of merit left to add and I won't be responding none constructive criticism.

It's at least twice as large as you someone might assume.

Please, if you're going to take umbrage to everything I say, at least do so to the full extent of what I say:
"if you can provide it, which I assume you can" This, I remind you, in response to your assertion that we can't provide criticism because we lack context. I am assuming that you can provide such context. But that would mean you simply choose not to provide it. So, once again, we can't provide criticism because we lack context.
I don't believe I am the one who's being agressive, here, TBH. But ok, you do you. I won't bother you anymore over here. I will respectfully say, though, that I think that attitude is not very conductive to getting new customers, and I will look somewhere else.

That's the way you're trying to frame it to poison the well as it were. You're criticism was intended to be damaging to say "you don't belong" and need to prove your worth here for me now, and when I told you no I don't you taunted me with "If you can" The only reasonable response would to appear weak and not back up my work and say nothing or respond.
What I don't understand is why you would do that. I don't believe you were "shopping" and looking to be a customer. Feels more like cut throat business tactics, at first glance. Though it's a wild assumption, but you really don't seem like you were trying to use my services.
It's most likely you wanted to be negative for the sake of being negative.

OK - my 2 cent rant...
While just about zero sculpting experience I have a HUGE amount of print experience in both FDM and resin. The mug will print perfectly fine. If you desire to break off the lid, you will certainly be able to, no matter how thick it is sculpted.
The head, while small details may not be entirely visible in the end, sculpts that do not provide both a great and fine level of detail end up being rather flat. The best sculpts that print great do contain some fine details almost to the danger of disappearing - that is what sets apart a great sculpt IMHO. If you do everything giant-sized, you end up with what looks like a child's toy to me.
However, being a commercial artist myself for nearly my entire career (commercial meaning I do work for others to get paid, so have to make them happy - as opposed to a fine artist that does work for himself and to heck with what anyone thinks) you are right that the only person you need to make happy is your clients, but you never know when you might put off potential (albeit not hugely probable) clients.
Let the man sell himself and let his merits speak - anyone is free to agree/disagree, but in all honesty the samples for merit provided may not have been entirely explained up front, hence the initial criticism.
...2 cent rant over...

Despite one's feelings or opinion (It very well could be you've already tested the design in whatever format is required, we don't know) But the responses could have been phrased in a not-so-negative manner yet still convey the same message.
Despite how good your work is, people will turn away if the attitude is bad.
I agree, unfortunately the above guy was trolling, or being negative to be negative.
I answered his questions and he's still trying to be contentious.
All of my paying customers are happy with my customer service, and I firmly believe that any bridge can be mended if you take the time to talk to someone in a positive way.
That being said I'm not going to bow down to a troll demanding I work for free to "prove it", after multiple attacks to discredit my business.
As far as my customer service goes. I did the above job at a massive discounted price to make someone happy. They seem to be happy.
That customer is fine with the service they received, and if anything went wrong with the sculpting I would re sculpt it free of charge. That's the attitude I have towards paying customers. I work with them as much as I can, answer all of their questions and give them updates on the process.
I went above and beyond on this customer and I think that has merit.
Please don't also dismiss what I'm saying out of hand, and I will take your advice into consideration also. Please note that my job is to make my client happy, and it's unfair to be attacked online for doing that. Especially considering it's a miss understanding of what size a mug was.
And I did my best to answer the trolling with respect before they attacked, and kept being contentious.
Either way I would lose customers by responding or not. I decided to say something.
Just consider that I'll listen to what you say here and try to be receptive to comments and more tactful in response. Hopefully that puts to wrest the idea that I'm going to treat my paying customers like crap.
Or anyone for that matter. Thanks for understanding and I'll try to own up to your expectations here.
Thanks for chiming in.

This is very helpful feedback thank you. I did take time to inform the customer it might not print on FDM and resin would probably be the only option. Resin is brittle and so it can break easily but that's the bricks. Basically you're correct, if you drop that mug there's a chance it could break.
I'm not 100% sure what the cups are for, I'm pretty sure it's a diorama. The client never said anything about intended use. They simply stated it needed to be an "exact match" to the original. I can be reasonably assured they want the for something that will be attached to another model in some way, like holding the cup which would be fine, or on a bar of some kind.
I've also printed far more delicate stuff on resin that's why I know given the comic size of the cup it would be fine.

I was, and am, looking for a designer, for a personal project of a more mechanical nature, mainly mecha design.
But again, feel free to believe whatever you like. You have a clear opinion, after all. I wish you luck in your endeavours.
