Hello All, I was wanting to build my catachan troops with Melta guns but does the box set come with special weapons or do I have to get them from other sources. If anybody can help me with this I would appreciate it.

The Command Squad comes with a Melta, but the basic box only has a flamer.

None in the box, but the good thing about the Catachan set is that its arms are perfectly compatable with marine special weapons, so much so their flamer is straight from the old tactical box. So you can just use marine meltas, either from Ebay, a friendly local marine player or GW, which sells them in sets of 5. Alternatively if you're looking on Ebay you could pick up one of the older metal meltagunners, though they're a bit smaller than plastic Catachans.

If you take a flamer, cut out the long part of the barrel between the core of the gun and the grilly thing at the end, and re-attach the grilly part of the end (with the pilot light clipped off).... upside down, well at that point it looks a lot like a melta gun.

edit: like so:
Spoiler:

GW specific? Command squad or buy the 5 packs from gw. Alternatively, make friends with marines and sisters players, those who played a while will have spares.

Smart option is pick a 3rd party company like mad robot, victoria lamb, anvil industries, or one of many others, then you get way more meltas in guard scale for much cheaper

Alternatively there are plenty of third-party suppliers that produce 40k-esque special and heavy weapons, such as Kromlech and Puppets War. If you play in GW stores however they may not be happy with that.
