Yes - I saw Kurnosts 'Blimp mechanicus' project a couple of years back and decided to build one myself.
I had almost everything to hand already so just picked up a pair of baneblade pannels from bits and kits ... and a fair number of supporting 30k mechanicus units from forgeworld.

Well, I bought some of Not Online's orks because he mentioned selling them
Also some paints, magnets and other hobby tools based on recommendations or experience reports.
|
7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Yea absolutely, some of the Snakebite conversions I saw inspired me to try my hand at it myself!
I can't find the blog now but there was this one where they had so many back banners and cool face paint that was really inspiring.

There have been units I didn’t like the look of (Centurions) that after I saw how a few people did some simple mods to make them look better, warmed up to and purchased.
I backed a kickstarter I would not have seen if not for Dakka.
When choosing what case to buy, the discussions here helped me find KR Multicase.
Reading the tactics and list building sections makes me more aware of what people are doing with units, and how they can preform. I can’t say this has made me directly go out and buy something, but it certainly shapes how I spend my hobby dollar.

Sure all the time - from seeing KS that I'd otherwise have missed; to seeing conversion ideas and painted armies* and getting tactical advice on choices to make for building armies.
Heck sometimes I even come to ask specific questions about what to buy and where one might find certain products or such.
/* it actually annoys me a lot how many modern miniature companies don't show models in photos and only show a 3D rendering or cover/box art. Some, even if they do show a model, might only show one photo or two with nothing in relation to give a sense of scale or size. I've seen some big models look small and some small look big because of how the photos were done. Sometimes even those casual snapshots of a model can do more than a fancy 3D pre-generated image of a model in terms of actually making me buy it

Absolutely!
The Titanicus Dakka gang recommended a Reaver and while it took over a year for the encouragement to settle in, its thanks to the BSF gang that a copy of Blackstone Fortress arrived in the post yesterday. The AoS gang seemed so happy about 2nd edition Age of Sigmar that I took the plunge too.
Shout out to all the Gangs of Dakka! Cheers!

OMG, that one is new to me... phenomenal. What do you run it as?? Not that it really matters, that thing is just COOL.
To contribute to the thread, I've gotten a few inspirations from Dakka -- turning a box of Canoptek Wraiths into a Tomb Stalker, using Mangler Squigs to do a Squigfex (inspired by the Octarius conflict), I'm sure there are more.

Thanks. I ran it as a very late Armies on Parade entry (as in I only decided to make a go at it 2 weeks before the day without the blimp, board, or admech models). Easy build actually, Kurnost did all the hard work of thinking it up :p
I would use it as scenery as it's painted in a matching scheme, but it wobbles precariously on its flight stand when the table is bumped.

I've gotten lots of my basing and terrain ideas from the ongoing Toys thread. Those super cheap army barrels can't be beat and there's a few other things like cheap RGB tealights that come in handy.

Yes now and then. I obviously don't just get things blindly but I've asked advice and been given ideas based on set ups that have spurred buys after some proxy and play around to decide if its a good idea or not.
An informed buy should always be treated to hearing some advice and crossing with with actual experience but both together can be good for being sure you aren't tossing your money away.

Yes. Some time ago, someone posted a heads-up about the Deathwatch RPG .PDFs being offered at Humble Bundle, so I bought them. More recently, in this year's Christmas/Black Friday sales thread, a post about Wargames Exclusive having 20% off, made me pull the trigger. In the former case, while I had an interest in the Deathwatch RPG, I did not know about Humble Bundle, or that .PDFs were available, so that purchase was made possible by Dakka Dakka. In the latter case, I was already contemplating a purchase at WE and the discount was simply the spur to do it now.
However, there has yet to be a suggestion or heads-up that has made me want to buy something outside of my usual interests. So I'm not buying a Lady Gaga CD or download, for example. Even if someone posts it is free!

Definitely for me. I originally came to this website for News & Rumors about upcoming GW products (since at the time you wouldn't know what was coming next until it hit the street).
Also found out about several KS's and other games from this place, as well as a few kitbashes and homebrew rules suggestions that have inspired me to do some of my own modeling.
