According to my FB feed a lot of people must be interested in the fact 2020 marks the 40th anniversary of the Flash (FLASH! AAA-AAAAAAAA! Savior of the universe!) movie with the soundtrack by queen.

So I just thought i'd check to see if anyone here was interested.

I liked it. it was goofy, campy and fun. it didn't try to mock the original source material or parody it, it seemed fairly respectful of the original work. I get a little tired of parody and mockery at times, done to death. Didn't take itself too seriously.

Not really a "B" movie, just basically campy. It's kind of fun to watch still, not overdone like a lot of comic superhero movies today, none of the dark broody emo gak, not a movie meant to be so bad it hurts like a lot are today. Nice change of pace.

Max von Sydow was awesome as Ming.

The theme song was recently (pre-COVID so March maybe?) used in a Phone ad that focused on the camera taking good low light images.

When I heard it on the TV at the local brewing establishment, I almost did a spit-take. I cast about trying to find the source, and saw the commercial and not the movie. Very disappointing.

We had a bit of 'The Wedding March' at our wedding.
And, it was on TV yesterday, so we watched until the adverts came on.

I looked through the cast list a while ago, and was surprised by a few. Peter Wyngarde (the inspiration for Austin Powers) and lots of others.

I think brian blessed kinda stole every scene he was in as Vultan.

I remember seeing timothy dalton as Rassalon on an ep of Dr. Who years ago and being almost stunned as i had no idea he would be in it. He was surprising given that rassalon had been a good guy up to that point.

Max von sydow had a fair amount of "Geek media" films to his name, like Dune, The force awakens, What dreams may come, etc.

Speaking of MVS....

Yeah yeah go ahead and bring on the facepalming orkicons.... You want to accuse me of making a horrible pun all I can say is I'm...

One thing about the FG movie is it was pretty clearly used as source for that Dr. Who ep where the master "died", the doctor did a "Luke burning vader's body" scene, then a mysterious hand picked his ring up out of the ashes. That was a two for take on other sf media.

"Bring me....the Bore wyrms."

"NO! NOT THE BORE WYRMS!"

...thank goodness Klytus didn't call for the Ambull!

Brilliant movie. Weekend afternoon gold. Smashing.

Voltan is my spirit animal. I'm wondering if Gerard Butler's uncanny resemblance in 300 was intentional...

But yeah, great movie is great.

All about Ornelia Muti.

Dunno what Flash was thinking, choosing the somewhat frumpy Dale!

Eh, I liked Melody Anderson better. I lucked out and dated a girl that looked almost identical to her once. Didn't turn out so well, I'm afraid.

They apparently did a limited run showing of it in some states, but of course f'n covid had to ruin it.

MVS reportedly loved it, being handed a role in which he was free to go as far OTT as possible.

Speaking of ming's daughter, it's funny how she was shown as apparently having red blood when being whipped, but when her daddy was ran thru by the point of 'war rocket ajax' his blood was quite black.

Also it's strange how some of the Mongo people were apparently human except in some weird ways. When klytus died his face began oozing out the holes in his mask. When kala dies she literally melted into some black oil that oozed down the stairs.
