I'm at it again. This year, an army I swore up and down I'd paint if they ever came out with plastics, Sisters of Battle. Now I just swear at the expense! Because of said costs, I'm limiting myself to 1250 points, which is basically 3 boxes of Battle Sisters, 2 boxes of Retributors, some Characters, a pair of Mortifiers and an Immolator. Maybe once GW coughs up a Combat Patrol box for Sisters I'll consider doing an expansion. For now, this should serve as a decent base - light on melee but strong on shooting, with Storm Bolter and Melta Dominions and Hvy Bolter and Multi-Melta Retributors, and MSU Sisters squads full of flamers.

Also included are some cheeky Necromunda conversions to make a Missionary and Preacher, and Amalia Novena and Tariana Palos, because if I was spending this much money I might as well get some awesome poses.

Color scheme wise, covered in another thread, but I'm going for a military green camo scheme (along with so much barbed bracken).

Priming is done. On to basecoating...tomorrow. Surprised at how much paint Sisters take, all the robes and fiddly bits create a lot of surface area compared to Space Marines.

The stained glass window thingy was airbrushed with contrast medium. I'll be hand priming and basecoating the framework and using contrast paints to stain the 'glass' parts. Probably would have been better to hand paint the Contrast Medium but I was curious as to how it would turn out.

And yes, the Immolator's chassis is mounted to a painting handle! I glued a 32mm base to the bottom where no one would ever see it in play, there's just enough room for the painting handle to grab onto the base.

It must be Christmas if John Prins is back and about to paint as many minis in a fortnight as I manage in a year!

Cool scheme test mini. It’s a colour I’ve not seen many sisters in, so I’ll be interesting to see how they turn out.

I’d wish you good luck in getting the done, but past form suggests you don’t see luck!

Only blood, sweat and tears.

Today I got some basecoating done.

That's INSTAR's Alpha range Army Grey deposited via airbrush. Note I haven't yet done the brush-work on the Immolator window yet.

I've mixed some custom contrast mix (3:1 Medium: Militarum Green) for the next steps, but I may just process them in batches rather than hitting everything with contrast all at once.

Finished the first squad - which was easy because the first model was already done, so I only had to get 4 done today.

I think I'm going to pin-wash the robes going forward, I'm painting over most of the wash anyways so it'll just save me time. I'm also regretting choosing Stirland Battlemire as my basing material, as getting under all the robes and fronds is tricky, but it is what it is.

I always love these projects and your colour scheme choice is always a stand out feature! Loving what you're doing with them so far and looking forward to more.

Some Melta-equipped Dominions.

Doing 5 sisters in one day was pretty tough (I took breaks, but it's still well over 1 hour per sister), and I'm wondering if maybe doing 3 a day is enough...I dunno. Probably tomorrow I'll hit some character models to mix it up without getting too ambitious.

Hmm, may i ask if you make a dark mirror?

It'd be interesting to see some of these nurgleyfied.

Regardless, that is some serious work done per sister. And it shows imo.

I prefer clean paint jobs, which doesn't really lend itself to Nurgle. Their models have a ton of detail and doing it cleanly would be 3-4 hours per mini, which is what it takes to do my Death Eagles. Me complaining that it takes over 1 hour per sister is actually a fairly quick paint scheme - I take a lot of time planning these Christmas projects so that I can get a decent volume done during my vacation.

A great start to a great project. I too prefer the clean painting style and your work on the Sister's exemplifies it.

My only suggestion is maybe the foliage on the base needs to be a different colour? It matches the armour in colour so is a little lost IMO. But if the colour choice is to aid with the speed of your challenge I understand.

I think it would be bad camo if it didn't match. Once everything is painted and varnished I can add tufts and flock to vary the color a bit. But they're supposed to get a bit lost in the background.

The sisters are looking good! Always keen to see you produce a huge amount of painted minis in such a short period of time.

If the stirland battlemire is a pain, do you care if it hits the bottom of the model? It might convey a more lived in look of the model while still keeping things clean and tidy.

I can live with a bit hitting the bottom of the robes/feet, but I don't want to 'weather' them deliberately.

After saying I'd do a few characters instead of a bunch of models...

I gotta say I'm not 100% happy with these and I'll probably give them a second pass - probably to do the halos and bracers in brown. I'm actually not a big fan of cherubs (prefer servo-skulls), and they're kind of hard to fit into a camo scheme. Probably should have done the wings in green and the body in brown.

Another Battle Sister Squad. Faces are hard, but I think I did okay on these gals. Note there's 2 heavy flamers because I forgot to put one in the first squad when I painted it.

You’re cracking along as usual John. The cherubs look a bit nurgley with the green skin, I think you might be right about inverting the colours. They still look good mind. Overall the scheme works well, and they’ll certainly blend in with woodlands. Do you have any jungle terrain for final group photos?

I think i have some of the ancient GW jungle trees kicking around in my terrain boxes, but they probably don't match. I know I've forgotten some of my Heavy Gear (camo'd) minis during games because they vanished on the board, which is a danger doing camo schemes. You don't forget Imperial Fists on the table much.

Preacher, Imagifer and Missionary

I don't like the 'regular' Preacher and Missionary model and I wanted something that would match the robes of the sisters a bit more. Necromunda gangers to the rescue. Buying a box of Necromunda plastics for 2 models was barely more expensive than buying the single figure models.

For the Imagifer's standard I wanted the appearance of ancient and patinated wood, so I broke out my seldom used drybrushing skills along with some Wyldwood contrast paint. For the amount of effort involved, I think it turned out great and will probably do much the same with a lot of the decorative stuff on Sororitas vehicles.

Liked your Necrons last year, but really love the Sisters this year. Very cool and unusual scheme and your Delaque conversions for the priests are really cool! Even if I quite like the old sculpts

That wood imagifier is amazing, those Necromunda models fit right in. Last years necrons were good, but these girls are blowing me away!

Decided to take a break today, but after Christmas dinner I figured one model wouldn't hurt.

A simple conversion to give a Canoness a Rod of Office. All the bits are from various Sisters kits - the gun and sword from the BSS box, the Fleur-De-Lis symbol from the Retributor Sister Superior backpack (one of 2 options).

Last squad of Battle Sisters. Actually, this is more of a 'reserve' squad, as elements from this unit are more likely to fill out other squads.

The holidays are slowing me down, but I got some more Retributors done. Only 3 more infantry, 2 Mortifiers and an Immolator to go.
