Had a fun game against my mate to see how it would pan out. His IG tank line against my Khorne CSMs with a brass scorpion figurehead.

He whittled away at my stuff as it advanced under cover, I had nearly reached him with my remaining units when his Shadowsword(?) scored a massive penetrating hit against my brass scorpion. It went into full meltdown and the ensuing blast basically took out my entire remaining army...

A game during 8th with my death guard against daemons of tzeench. About a fourth of the table was cut off from the rest by a huge sight blocking mountain, and two of my drones and a daemon prince of nurgle were losing a fight against a daemon prince of tzeench, two heralds on discs and a unit of screamers.

All my models are at 1-3 wounds, he has four screamers left. The enemy daemon prince casts a power in an attempt to heal himself, but gets perils instead. The prince explodes in a shower of confetti and frag grenades, causing 3 wounds to pretty much everyone behind that mountain, in turn killing one of the drones - which then exploded causing another mortal wound to everyone, killing the second drone which also exploded.

A single screamer emerged from behind that mountain, everyone else was just swallowed by the warp. Just as planned.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

The little grenadier squad that could.

Imagine 7th ed friendly non formations fight between my R&H and a mates Tau.

basically the game went on torwards round 5, i was on the backfoot. my last tank decided to get blown up, my homefield objective was held in essence by a command squad and what remained of my last militia squad, pushed by some mechs.
Anyways, finally my reserve show up in a valkyrie, said grenadier squad in it. Flew over the table, parachuted, valkyrie got disabled in the process, shot up firewarrior squad on the objective and secured me a win by 1 point...

The other game included an archon getting shanked by a renegade leader through the 2++ save, which is hillarious in hindsight.

but the most amazing thing was a Khorne berzerker champion with powerfist killing a C'tan shard.

Back in the third war for armageddon, a black templar force and my marine force were in an underground bunker/shelter that we needed to breakthrough the exit of to then be able to deploy in the ork deployment zone later in the battle and hopefully turn the tide.

Our enemies were the Eldar for who their own reasons was trying to hold us up...Typical selfish pointy eared bigots. Anyway.

Third edition Eldar could be fairly brutal, in close quarters and we were effectively playing on a zone mortalis board so they could approach easy and quick without getting gunned down.

The main board the imperial lines are failing the stem the orks, they need back up, we are under pressure to breakthrough.

There's been wraith guard and a wraith lord that has been the bane of our marine forces, and the wraith lord has now positioned itself as the gatekeeper, all our heavy and most special weapons are gone, we aren't going to kill it by shooting and survive.

Up steps my marine captain with power fist and the emperors champion, each backed up by a squad. They go in, the combat is brutal as banshees also get involved and are carving through marines like butter, in the end it is just the Emps champ, my captain and the wraith lord. Those that will remember how brutal they were in combat, especially with instant death will know this is a tough ask of the marines. The Emps champ manages to bring it down a few wounds before being taken out. It is just my captain left, saving 3x iron halo saves and punching the wraith lord into the ground. Captain breakthrough into the ork lines where it meets up with a death company that has managed to break through also and goes on a tear whilst being backed up by marine and black templar reserves.

Imperials lost on the overall day, but we took our pound of flesh along the way.

Hated Eldar ever since.

Once, on the first round, one of my archons (a female model) was targeted by an eldar sniper character. It was only a single shot... but it broke straight through her non-rerollable 2++ shadowfield, causing her to lose her invul save for the rest of the game. Frustrating! But on my very next turn, my Voidraven bomber zipped past the archon, brought its void lances within point-blank range of the sniper (because of 8th Ed character-targeting rules), and vaporized him.

How I pictured it: the archon is outraged, just outraged to have been targeted. It has been a while since anyone has made her bleed. She glares up at the sniper in the ruined building ahead and, through her vox unit, snarls at the nearest pilot to take out that son of a b!tch. Which he proceeds to do, with the perfection expected of any servant of the Kabal of the Obsidian Rose. The archon utters a satisfied snort, then returns to the business of driving her warriors forward.

About a year ago, I saw one Warlord titan in a game of AT explode and wipe the entire board. Literally like watching dominos fall as each other titan failed their checks and exploded too.

In... 8th? Maybe 7th... edition, I had a squad of melee-oriented Chaos Cultists charge a Space Marine Terminator Captain. Over the course of two turns, with sticks and sharp rocks, they dragged him down, with the Champion getting the final shot that killed him (and also being the last cultist standing). The Champ rolled on the Chaos table and, lo and behold, became a Daemon Prince, right there on the spot.

It was so glorious.

Probably a Leman Russ tank shocking a squad of Necron Warriors off the table over several turns. It took a while. It was just so silly, because like it's not like a Leman Russ was particularly fast enough to keep catching them, but they just failed to run just fast enough to get away and consistently failed leadership and got run off the board over the course of like 3 turns.

Doubt it. I very rarely ran tanks with much in the way of upgrades. It was back in 5th edition, and I usually ran/run my tanks with just their gun and their hull mount and no other upgrades.

I think it was just it's 6+d3" movement chasing down their 2d6" fall back each time. The real thing was that he got really unlucky with leadership [and fall back rolls] and just never managed to get away, so it was kind of funny. I'm pretty sure it was a Vanquisher, since otherwise I could have just blown them up if it was a Battle Tank or Demolisher.

Bummer. I like the mental image of a Leman Russ driver bullying a squad of Necrons off a map edge by shoving them along with the dozer blade, all irritated robot beeps and obnoxious honking from the driver, like they were a flock of stubborn farm animals or something.

I was running an pure drop pod list in a 5th edition tournament against Tau. The scenario is bounty hunter, so units got a point every time they killed a unit, and also took any points that unit had.

Tau went first, stared at an empty battlefield and decided to castle up. Down come four pods, Lysander, Terminator Librarian, two units of Sternguard, a tactical squad, and an Ironclad Dread. Everything neatly lined around the Tau like a second layer of his castle. Three more tac sqauds joined in the fun later.

While the Tau died horribly in the constant crossfire they took what they could. Lysander went down hard. Two or three squads were wiped out. The drop pods were acting as sentry turrets to stop any escape. Striding to the top of the hill the Tau had staged their final stand the hulking dreadnaught also fell.

At the bottom of turn 5, about 1000 points of marines tried their best to murder the single remaining Tau. With the death of the dread he had managed to acquire most of the bounty points.

To this day I love the idea of a single firewarrior (I forget what the model actually was) hiding in terror among the burning wrecks surrounding him as the world literally explodes around him.

Krieg! What a hole...

Back when Structure Points were a thing in Apoc. I gave my DKoK Grenadiers the order to reroll to hit, targetting a Stompa that was just in melta range. A hit and a miss. The miss ir rerolled into a hit. Two pens (pretty sure the little guys were within 6 inches). 4-5 for the results, bumped to 6 for both. That's 2 Structure points gone out of 4, and I get to reroll for additional damage, this time, however, the AP of the weapon doesn't count, so I don't expect much in term of damage. Except I roll two more 6's, stripping the last two Structure Points of the Stompa, making it explode and killing the two Grenadiers in the process.

That thing was worth as many points as my army, back then, it was a huge 7 vs 7 apoc game where all the Ork players teamed up against everyone else.

That is a funny mental image. On the other hand, it's still a pretty funny mental image as the slowest attempt to run someone over ever, given that a Leman Russ is explicitly very slow [with a special rule at the time that made it move +d3" IIRC instead of +6" when attempting to go fast] and Necron Warriors aren't exactly reknown for speed either.

The most best occasions in wargaming arise spontaneously as a result of the situation.

Playing Orks in 2e produced ludicrous cinematic scenes every game. I used to run a squad of 5 Warbikes, and more than once the first bike was hit, lost control, and caused a chain reaction of crashes and explosions that annihilated the entire squad. Also, the Splatta cannon had a round that bounced randomly (multiple times), and one time I fired it towards the enemy, only for it to turn around, take several leaps towards my lines, and hit a Gretchin in the face. Miraculously, the Gretchin survived, and the Splatta round bounced backwards, the forward again into the same Gretchin, killing it.

For a more recent tale, I had a couple of heroic Deffkoptas in an 8e game, an Open War capture the flag scenario. Charging ahead of the army, the Deffkoptas shot and killed a Blood Angels smash captain and picked up the flag. One Kopta died to the Blood Angels' fire, and the other was charged by Astorath, rolling double sixes on Overwatch, and again for Dakka Dakka Dakka, scoring four Rokkit hits, all of which wounded. Even though the Blood Angels player used a CP reroll, Astorath failed enough saves to die. The Kopta then flew off with the flag, ultimately winning the game.

the road to glory is open to all chaos worshipers, you just need the strength to take it.

And yes these moments are all awesome and make me kind of sad to have no more boontable.

Another Orky one, when I had a battlewagon with a deff rolla and red paint job back in 5th or 6th edition, and my opponent moved into the middle of the board with their 2 vindicators. One ram later and both the vindicators had exploded, and my battlewagon was renamed "da tanksplitta" (the deffrolla was in the form of a chainsaw cow-catcher).

I've seen a tau drone kill a bloodthirster, that was a fun game. I was asked to paint "daemon slayer" on the drone for the guy!

I've seen a fairly hefty chain reaction go off in several games, along the lines of:

Unit A shoots unit B, and kills it.
Unit B pops a stratagem and shoots before death, killing unit C
Unit C explodes, killing unit D
Unit D uses a different stratagem to fight before dying, killing unit E (ork warboss)
Unit E pops "orks is never beaten" to krump a vehicle he's in combat with, unit F, before dying.
Unit F explodes, killing units G & E.

Unit A looks down at their gun in disbelief!

Game of 5th. I think. My Guard against Eldar. At one point, the Avatar charged into my 20-man blob who were defending a position. For context, the Avatar at this point had 4 wounds.

As he charges in, he fails his Dangerous Terrain test for charging through cover. 3 wounds remaining. I overwatch, manage to get one wound through. 2 wounds remaining.

He challenges, I decline. One of my Sergeants gets sent to the back of the fight. He swings and kills about four men. I fight back and get one more wound, leaving the avatar on 1.

Then I remember that, as well as having 2A basic, the Sergeant who's stayed in combat gets an extra attack for pistol plus CCW.

The final swing of the chainsword finds its mark, and the Avatar falls, slain by the hardy troops of the Imperial Guard.
