It was not colourshift. Only the metalics. (Although they shift quite a lot they as well.)
A frien sugested varnishing them earlier in the process. Makes some sence.
If the varnish you used dulled down the colors, then it was more matte than the paint itself. Gloss is shiny, but satin is anywhere in between matte and gloss, and if you like the
raw finish of the paint it's worth experimenting to find a satin varnish that matches it.
Metallics will definitely change appearance moreso than other paints as they're shinier to begin with. You can get that shine back by going back with a gloss or satin varnish on specifically the metallic areas.
