Haven't bought any in a long time because I haven't playing the game and my Audible subscription has covered my need for 40k lore fairly well.

Maybe it's a tradition somewhere, but not here.

BRB was added to the dakka glossary during 5th, when the 40k rulebook was, in fact, red.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

It’s always been Big Rule Book, or Base Rule Book AFAIK. I’ve never heard any reference to the color for 40k, and not sure about WHFB as well. The “R” was always for rules

Nope I have just get use to the rule level quality of Infinity and other games (online free updated rules and army builder) and find the clumpsy and bizarre (non analogical, non digital) state of 40k publications to not be worth a penny.

Infinity's recent FAQ overwrote the basic Order/Aro sequence. it's a small change, but it made the printed rulebook basically worthless because it's a small change that affects most rules in the game.
Not defending 40k's trash writing, but buying ANY printed material in this day of quick updates is basically buying very uncomfortable paper towels.

As for the question, I used to buy almost all back in 3rd edition but nowadays I l buy maybe three?

I have literally never seen it refered to as the BBB or BGB on any site.

Well, if you were on this site 15-20 years ago, you would have seen those things, because they referred to old editions of the rules. If you weren't around back then, it makes sense that you never would have seen those, because they were only used when the rule book was in fact Black or Grey.

You might think that, but you'd be wrong. If you weren't around a really long time ago, you would have no reason to know about BRB or BBB meaning Big Red Book or Big Black Book.

Just like several others have posted, in previous editions (3rd through 5th) I would buy just about every codex- even for armies I never even played as they had a longevity to them and were affordable as impulse buys.

I sat out 6th and 7th, but I reckon I certainly would have weaned off buying all but the essentials due to the ramping up of codex churn.

In 8th I bought into GW's hype (yay! Big mistake...) and bought all the indexes, including the FW ones, the big rulebook (well, the Dark Imperium box) and the DG and Tau codexes. Didn't buy any more, despite having several more armies due to for some unknown reason the 40k scene drying up at my FLGS. So I ended up spending hundred of £s on a bunch of books I frankly used a handful of times.

Paycheck Awakening made the churn obvious and I wasn't buying any of them. Same goes for all of the 9th rubbish. I stuck to the essentials, so only got the DG book and got the A5 Indomitus rulebook from eBay, and that is all I have bought as so far I have got to use both of them a grand total of twice due to a certain global situation. But I would still venture to a certain inlet of land where sailors of a certain persuasion make port for other books...

Not buying GW books any more. They are simply not worth the paper they are printed on.

I play multiple armies (currently 5 active armies) so I have to buy codexes for each to stay current. I also always make sure to pick up Chapter Approved, and I try to snag any relevant campaign books (only if they have content that involves my armies though). I still don't have the current Chapter Approved (the 2021 one), and I also need to get The Book of Fire for the Sisters content.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

As the results stand, a quarter of people who voted only buy the one rulebook (so I assume that's their army's codex), and a quarter of people buy five or more rulebooks. The other 50% are somewhere in between.
