Eh. I've been doing tabletop gaming for 30 odd years now. A big problem is that today's games I really have no interest in. And the social aspect is important but covid makes me not want to be around a lot of people. Should a game ever come out that I enjoy I may re evaluate. But considering the big GW seems to be 90% or more of any given FLGS attendance, and that 40k and AOS are both games I have no interest in, and doing more community building is not something I am interested in doing again after doing that for so long... moving on to other things has been in my cards for a while. Covid just fast forwarded it a bit.

I hear you. I moved to a much smaller group of like minded players who are mostly aligned on what we want from the games. That helped me keep going, because the FLGS is just a grind.

Good luck. Maybe we will see you back someday. I hope so.

Thanks One never knows. I am moving into my new house after moving across the country so am hoping to get some Oathmark reports up on my youtube. And then there's battletech. If I can get some people here interested in those type of things, that would go a long way!

I haven't played an in person game since Covid started, and I'm likely finished with tabletop games at this point.

Wow that is harsh, i have so much time and effort invested i don't think i could walk away.

Since 1987 with classic battletech for me, so i understand where you are coming from. i guess i am just lucky to live in an area with a strong gaming community that isn't locked into just GW games. We have built up quite a community around other game systems like DUST, classic battletech, heavy gear, specter ops, warmachine etc...

For the most part when we do GW games they are the ones not currently supported by GW because we prefer to play BFG, 5th ed 40k, epic 40k etc.. where we feel the game was more fun to play.

Best of luck, Auticus. I've enjoyed your contributions, but I understand bowing out when the local scene doesn't fit with what you want. Basically what happened to me for the last 10 years, though I hung around painting and chatting here.

I got my second game in 2 weeks (and I think, actually my third game of 40k total since 8th edition released IIRC) scheduled for Friday. Most of my group has shifted over to a newish store with a pretty strict mask mandate, solid sanitation policies, and a generally pretty good crowd (all the regulars are fully vaxxed), etc. so not much in the way of COVID-related concerns anymore, now I just need to learn all these new rules lol.

I play RPG's every weekend, running one every other weekend, and playing in two on alternate weeks. Only one is in person, the other two are via VTT.

For miniature games, before Covid I was playing about once a month or so (X-Wing mostly). Last weekend was the first time I got to play (Bolt Action) in person since lockdown.

It never ends well

Heh 1987 classic Battletech was also my first romp in the tabletop world. Gaming community is definitely a big part of it.

I'm painting up marvel and battletech and want to do some battle reports on my video for those plus oathmark.

And I'm also developing my own game for both the PC and tabletop (I am a game dev by profession). Concept artists are cranking out some faction art for me now and I'm about two months out of getting 3d modelers in place to turn the art into models for both the PC game and for the STL files that I will be selling.

There will definitely be more wargaming in some fashion just maybe not out in public as much!

Here's some concept art to share:

You didn't have a "one game a month" entry, so I chose "other".

Corona moved me from infrequent to almost never

(and a number of folk I used to game with are now homeworking so moved or looking to move far enough out of the city that getting back with them seems unlikely)

so more time for building and converting

Trying to get back into it. I still play alone, so a pickup game can be organized on a whim. Ironically, it was piling on social commitments that reduced the frequency.

Hoping to get back into it though. I’m finding tabletop games a good solution to distance myself from screens (work + programming hobby + EBooks).

So far the poll is turning out about as i expected among the dakka community. we all like to talk a lot about playing the games we love, rather it be looking at tourney results, mathhammer, theory hammer, rules debates etc...but a vast majority of players do not get all that much experience actually playing the game in real life(covid lockdowns not withstanding) at the current rate that's 26 who play rather frequently (at least once a week) and those who play less so (a couple times a month to hardly nothing) being the majority at 68 as of this posting.

thankfully i can usually manage a weekly rpg game of one sort or another, though the covid times have driven that online from time to time

I managed my first game of 9th last week.

In fairness, before the pandemic I was playing fairly regular blood bowl. Dang covid.

I used to RPG very regularly until my friendship group kinda broke down. Now I wish I could RPG, but just play tabletop games with my brother and dad once or twice a week.

I have also been moving away from GW over the past few months and getting into other games like Legion, Bolt Action, A Song of Ice and Fire, and now Infinity, hopefully my local scene has some cool peeps for any of those games.

Obviously i can only speak to my pre-pandemic schedule as things are not back to normal where I live or in my old group but:

1 or 2 games of WM/H a month. Might be able to get more in now as Brawlmachine has become a thing.

at least 1 game of Malifaux.

Rest of the time is painting.
