I wanted to throw together a few ideas my friends and I have had about the coming releases into 2022 and beyond, taking bits of rumors that we've seen and trying to piece together certain things to figure out what might be coming.

What we know: GW is going to be giving us 6-month long seasons of Warhammer, the first one Nachmund, already in the swing. We also know that roughly every 3 months we'll be getting a new Kill Team box set featuring a new warzone. We also know that there's a 30k box set floating around out there that we have indeed seen pictures of, yet no clue on when it's coming.

What's rumored: 30k is getting a big 2.0 release, moving lots of things to plastic, and becoming a mainline game. It's also been rumored that a new edition of 40k is being pushed back an extra year due to pandemic scheduling issues. Some of the rumors point to things like World Eaters (feat. Angron) as well as Kill Team sets featuring Corsairs and later on Harlequins, as well as rumors of Squats.

What we're speculating:

A. 30k is going to be the summer release. Previous rumors have suggested that there's going to be 4 box sets: One launch box that has the Spartan and all those other contents we've seen a potato-cam image of, and then three more release box sets that will have smaller collections of 30k miniatures. The rules are going to be a combination of 8th's army building and 7th's core rules. This is a big release, and it was actually originally planned for November of 2021. My speculation is that we're going to see it this summer, as the big thing (along with a few others) that keeps the summer numbers high and gives new hobbyists big new box sets and a new game edition to play with. Considering the number of models, the rumored spray can colors, and other things, this would be a huge release.

B. GW is going to be releasing new battlemats in the new table sizes. A few friends have seen some new battlemats at the US tournaments that GW has been hosting between Florida and Texas and other places, and apparently there's some speculation that GW will be releasing their own line of battlemats in the new, smaller table sizes.

C. Titanicus is ramping up for a 2nd edition. A lot of the core models for the game are out, with only a handful of knights and titan chassis that are in the lore left to flesh out into full models. There are rumors of Titanicus getting things like air and ground support from the Aeronautica range and such, and some speculation is pointing to a refresh of Epic. I think they're going to go a different way and do a 2nd edition. Titanicus has been out for quite some time, and though it was a slow start, GW knows that books for new editions sell and generate new interest. We've also seen a lot of the titanicus terrain fluctuate in availability, which implies a reboxing, but why rebox if the product isn't changing?

That's all I got. Feel free to discuss, tear it all apart, provide counter speculation, or argue about Primaris marines, y'know, the usual.

To clarify:

Each season gives one 40k vs box and one KT vs box- so it's not actually 1 KT box per 3 months.... Although GW has NOT announced how many single-team KT boxes there will be per season, or per year, or even whether single-team KT boxes will only ever be one half of the preceding vs box. As it stands, we are owed single boxes for Krieg, Kommandos, Novitiates and Pathfinders w Upgrade sprue.

I can't speculate as much about the other stuff you mentioned, except to say I think Titanicus + Aeronautica rebranded as epic would outsell a 2nd ed of Titanicus and a 2nd ed of Aeronautica combined.

Also, don't forget that Cursed City is coming back with FULL distribution + expansions.

I'm hoping that GW acknowledges that they're trying to use 30k to appeal to people who are disillusioned by the current state of 40k rather than cannibalizing it to try and sell a new game to people who already like current 40k, and that they'll demonstrate a commitment to this by leaving it with whatever they're calling the FW/specialist games rules team right now with instructions to not port it all over to 9th, but I'm not confident.

Spoiler:

Kill Team release every 3 months. We haven't gotten the January one yet.

I stand corrected- I was taking my cues from the Warcom article on seasons.

This is good news- more stuff!

Not good news for the wallet though.

My only question would be: does this mean two different Kill Zones in each campaign setting? This image clearly says a Kill Zone every three months, but the seasons article clearly says each setting persists for a 6 month season, so what up with dat?

Maybe the seasons are 6 month long simply because they wanted to space out the campain books that way. I wouldn't read too much into it.

As for the January Kill team box, I would bet on the rumoured new Corsairs VS the rumoured new possessed to accompany the battle box.

Yeah, 40k seasons =/= Kill Team releases. If there's crossover, it'll likely just be a matter of narrative convenience.

I'm expecting it'll be Corsairs vs. Cultists, or maybe the rumored Traitor Guard. Cultists really need to just have a box of their own, and Traitor Guard would sell that box all on their own.

Yep- just re-read the seasons article; somehow I totally managed to misinterpret it. The article says the next KT vs box is set in Nachmund, and that's literally it.

My bad.

No worries. I wouldn't be surprised however to see if the next warzone for kill team is "Nachmund". These things tend to go hand in hand, which only serves to confuse the customer base when trying to keep these games separate from each other.

I don't think Adepticus Titanicus will advance toward Epic just yet. Personally I think the next big thing is to actually release a second faction for the game. Right now its mirror forces and we are just teased with corrupted titans in some rules.

I think the next step is a Chaos force of titans which are actually warped and deformed with chaos corruption. Giving the game an actual second force.

That I think is the next natural evolution for the game. The Imperial forces don't have to visually change because titans are ageless essentially.

I think Chaos is next "perhaps" if we are lucky with Xenos either following for a 3rd edition or sneaking in as well alongside Chaos.

They literally said that the next KT box is set in Nachmund in the article announcing Vigilus Alone.

This is what I was thinking too, but so far the only faction-specific titan they have is the psi titan, which I'm sure was a test to see how well a single-faction titan would sell. We'll see if they do more corrupted titans, it'll largely depend on whether they extend the storyline past the horus heresy or if they keep it in that timeline, because during that time there wasn't a lot of visible corruption on most titans.

Expecting new editions of Adeptus Titanicus and 30K. It could also be about time for a new run of Space Hulk...

Always room for GW to pump out more Space Marines, and Space Hulk is like printing money for them, so could be part of the summer release schedule. Just haven't heard any rumors about it myself.

But if they finally re-did the Lord and the standard destroyers, the product line would be completely up to date! We can't have that.

Well, I'd like to see Pariah re-released.
Decent models, but with improved special rules.

We've also got one more Underworlds warband coming out in the first half of this year, and a new Underworlds Core Box coming out in Q2, which will probably take one of the release windows.

I think it's fair to say Eldar and Chaos will have a couple of release windows each, just unknown if they'll be shared, or split.

Tau will probably just have one set of releases.

Looks like Chaos Knights (based on the new years teaser), will be getting a new kit at the very least.

Any other 40k, is hard to anticipate.

Not to mention AoS 3rd edition will expect to see a few more books (deepkin and Fyreslayers in the next month probably to tie into the new combi-box).

With Cursed City as standard stock now, I expect to see it's first expansion sometime soon, I'm sure they were sitting on those for a while, as they got the core box back available.

I'm hoping that a benefit of them pushing 10th off (if that's actually happening) will be to give the people who get their 9th codices last plenty of time to play with them before they do a full rules overhall and reduce the power level and bloat of everything across the board. How likely do I think this is? Eh, not very; but a guy can dream.

Can we let them actually re-release the core game before we start calling for the release of expansions? I don't think anyone's predicted a month for CC coming back out yet, have they?

Then just put him on one. Nobody cares about these things like you think they do, there are no base size restrictions in 40k. Only the internet gets its collective panties in a twist about "legal" bases.

I would imagine they'll release CC alongside the first expansion. It makes perfect marketing sense to rekindle interest in the game and get money off new people AND existing fans and it has been enough time since the original launch for an expansion to appear.

Ah. I don't see that happening- I think those are dead and buried at this point. What I suspect will happen instead is (If GW goes on with Shzarky's storyline), that he'll manage a 'successful' reverse-biotransference that results in horrible 'necron' monstrosities in flesh bodies. I personally think this dilutes the army, but its where a successful attempt at his goals leads (with appropriately 40k levels irony filtering that 'success').
