Subject: MKIII Helmets on MKII Bodies?

Hello... Realistically, would the MKIII helmets configure to the MKII Power Armor? It's driving me crazy, I know there was a lot of mismatching in the wearing of there armor during the Horus Heresy, but what do you all think of this issue?

Yes - MKIII was essentially up-armoured MKII. (Ancient fluff had the MKII helmet unable to move, a static part of the armour but that's gone out of the window recently...)

Generally all power armor, at least space marine power armor, is compatible with the others. A lot of 41st millennium power armor sets are actually mixed. You can even see it in the various marine boxed sets with a few of the bodies clearly having mixed suits.

It depends - there are sources that say there are "underlying incompatibilities" between armour types:

Mk IV was a paradigm shift towards a more advanced system, while III was pretty much an up-armoured upgrade on the II with added protection and cowling for various more easily damaged parts.
For the most part, there is absolutely no reason not to mix and match everything you think looks cool. It's a big galaxy and all that, but for the II and III there isn't even any need for handwaving about it.

Besides the fact that Mk II has helmet literally riveted to chest (and several huge holes in plate coverage in really vulnerable spots thanks to cooling deficiency, meaning that if you swap limb or chest for one lacking said holes you will cook user alive)? Then yes, other than backpack, limbs, chest, helmet and similar such minor details there are no problems with mixing at all

Only the old MkII has that. The FW models were entirely separate heads so you could mix and match like every other piece of Marine armour.

I know they changed it (because FW sculptors were lazy and also to sell more helmet upgrade packs) but the retcon is kinda gak. I liked the old lore, it shown evolving technology as SM gained experience with PA use and rediscovered more STC bits. Inefficient backpack, cooling holes, and immobile helmet gave II charm of old, obsolete workhorse that remains a true classic even though no one sane still uses it in combat.
FW post-retcon II, though? Is ugly, badly proportioned, comically looking Michelin Man that has no interesting qualities or quirks. Best to pretend this gak doesn't exist and the (vastly superior in every way, IMO) plastic Mk III is really the first SM suit. With nothing differentiating the two besides cooling holes now, I'd pick better looking, cheaper plastic set every time. II really has no reason to exist outside of being very short lived, quickly abandoned prototype anymore.

Guess we'll just have to disagree because I love MkII. The layered plate and the single eye slit sell the space knight aesthetic and the exposed cables show its low end tech. It works but it's not perfect, hence MkIII and IV.
